Hey guys.just want to know your opinions on how the SOTA sf toys stand up to the Resaurus SF toys(the line was cancelled a long time ago,but I think three series of figures were released, with a Toyfair exclusive Evil Ryu)I just wanted to know what you thought of each, and what line would you buy and why.As I wanted to dig up the Resaurus Evil Ryu figure, but I wanted to get the sota toys too(which also have an exclusive E.Ryu)So how do the lines stack up to each other, and give specifics please, thx alot. :karate:
Resaurus looked much better IMO. I have Akuma, Vega and Ken and they look fantastic. IMO, they like more true to form than the SOTA figures which look bad IMO because of the excess points of articulation.
Too bad Resaurus stopped working on the SF figures, I was looking forward to them releasing a Bison figure.
I think SOTA’s is better so far, mainly because an action figure that can’t be played with is a waste of money,IMHO. I really couldn’t get into Resaurus SF line. SOTA’s line creates a good number of poses, as opposed to the one you got with Resaurus. Then there are the acessories that SOTA’s have.
Bison was supposed to come out in Resaurus series 3. That series would have included Guile, Ibuki and Guy too. Bummer.
And one that scks about SOTA is that Ryu is almost nowhere to be found. That’s bllcrap cuz the Philippines (where I live) is supposed to be one of the first countries to get their hands on these toys. Ryu shouldn’t be this rare.
That just s*cks. I’ve never experienced the Ryu rarity in Resaurus.
That’s odd. I ordered a carton of the Sota toys from gamestop and for some reason this included 3 Ryu’s inside. So now I’ve got everyone, plus a Ryu to display in the box, one to open and play with, and one for a christmas present to one of my friends. The thing is, I was never ever able to find a player 1 Ryu from Resaurus I’ve never even seen one.
All in all, I enjoy both lines equally. They all look great in regards to presentation and box art. I really enjoy fitting Ryu in various posses though, with this much articulation they can do anything. I may end up buying the entire set again just to have some to display in fighting poses.
Here in the Philippines, majority of people pay in cash, and not thru credit card transaction. And people here are congested in the major cities where malls are literally everywhere so online purchasing (where you are more assured to get a product) isn’t really that much of a big thing here.
There are two major types of stores here where SOTA SF toys )any toy in general) can be found:
- Major toy stores (those stores similar to the likes of Toys R Us)
- Minor toy stores (which includes hobby shops, etc.)
I went to a major toy store exactly when the SOTA SF toys are scheduled to arrive and on that 1st day, no Ryu was available. What the f*ck?
But surprisingly, the minor shops have them. The downside is, I have to buy them all to get myself a Ryu.
I was able to ask the saleslady to let me pay only for the four since I consider Sodom to be an insignificant character. Luckily, she agreed.
Man just get the rotocasts when they comeout in spring 2005
Them figures look mad hot. I am gonna buy them. Sagat owns…
See, SOTA’s main line for people who like action figures and these rotocasts for people who like statues.
I liked both. You can only judge from the characters both companies did. Here’s my opinion.
Sota’s Ryu > Resaurus Ryu. Resaurus Ryu had the white headband but Ryu was built like he was in SF2. The Resaurus Ryu should of gotten the Red Headband. I had to get the second player Resaurus Ryu to forget about it, so I wouldn’t have to stair at the white headband and think “Damn! Can’t anyone get this Headband thing right!” Plus, Sota Ryu has the duffle bag! OWNAGE!
Sota Evil Ryu - Resaurus Evil Ryu - I only have the Resaurus one, but let’s call this a tie, unless you like Hadou thunderbolts or something, me no care.
Sota Sagat - Resaurus Sagat - Tie, although I don’t have Resaurus Sagat, but from what I’ve seen he looks good.
Sota Chun-Li < Resaurus Chun-Li - I’m sorry, but I don’t like Sota Chun-Li too much. Her second head has an extremely big jaw. Other than that, all those joints in her legs ruin the sexiness of it (I believe that it could of been done better while keeping the joints, admitingly it wouldn’t be easy) And pricing the second Chun-Li figure for ten more bucks when it’s just a color swap, that’s not cool.
All and all, both are good. I have all six of the Sota toys (no swaps) and all of the Resaurus toys (no swaps except for Evil Ryu, and I got second player Ryu instead of First Player Ryu, damn white headband…) minus Sagat and Gouki.
Oh, I have Resaurus’ Pocket Fighter Gouki. He rules!
I’m aiming to get those two once they come out! I just got the Bison action figure yesterday and it is totally kick ass! While it took me a while to pose it and move it around, it is definitely a toy I love! May be a little heavy though, but it rocks! I might get the Chun Li and Sodom figures pretty soon. But i’m getting those Ryu and Sagat ones since they are practially out of stock! ^^
And of course, i’m getting the ones from Series 2 and 3 as well but…any idea when an Akuma one is coming? ^^ Cause once Akuma comes out, i’m pitting him (and possibly Bison) against the Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Sephiroth action figure once that comes out! ^^
I think the major thing is faces. And for me, Resaurus did a MUCH better job of capturing the likeness’s of the characters. Thats the first problem i have with the sota line, they dont look enuff like their game counterparts. And secondly is what afew of u picked up on, the need to have loads of articulation…i mean lets face it, there must be a massive amount of these figures being sold to collectors who dont want to play with them, just stare lovingly at them I hate seeing those joints, it ruins the figure as a model, makes it all about playing with them. Personally i find it pretty tough, i mean i am a massive street fighter fan, and when i see new action figures i really want to buy them…but just cant with sota, they are just tooo weak.
Sota Rules!
That’s exactly why I like the SOTA ones more than ReSaurus- I feel SOTA did better with the likenesses.
I always thought the figures should look like they do in the games. Here are some concepts I drew of Blanka and Mika. Having accurate proportions and likenesses doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have articulation.
i agree u definitly can have good likenesses and articulation…but i jst find the articulation waay to noticable in the sota figures, better likenesses would make me want to buy them more, but i would still be put off slightly by the very visible joints…
I have every figure released from Resaurus in one color, I don’t have any SOTAs yet but the only problem I’ve seen with them compared to Resaurus’ is overall size and the face sculpts. I have the same issue as rab and some others in the thread have mentioned, articulation is great but when it’s overly visible it hurts the visual.
I’d take a more impressive likeness over articulation(Resaurus absolutely nailed Sagat, Remy, Alex, Necro, Blanka and Vega)but SOTA already has the same number of figs in production that Resaurus had before the project tanked so there’s at least a chance they’ll have a complete line. I wish they’d hold off on non SF-games(like Darkstalkers)until the SF line is over, though.
damn that Sagat rotocast looks nice.
I have Sagat and Bison of the SOTA series so far, and overall I like them. Don’t have any resaurus ones to compare to, always wanted to get an Akuma one, but never found one for a reasonable price.
I’m waiting on a Guile and Akuma figure from SOTA now.
Not sure if this has been posted before, but here is a message board that Sota visits and reads constructive suggestions by fans and potential customers.
Also they have a cool poll each day where you score a character out of ten and then they are ranked in popularity against all the other characters
Current top 10
- M Bison 92
- Akuma 90
- Dhalsim 86
- Ryu 84

I’m surprised Dhalsim beat Ryu let alone is that popular
