Having an attraction to a fictional cartoon character that doesn’t resemble a human is NOT abnormal? I’m sorry, but most human beings prefer in the flesh human looking creatures and not “2D girls.” What is so illogical about that? Anime girls are not real girls, having an attraction to something that isn’t real is not normal and that is why there is a social stigma that it is bad, because it isn’t real, it’s delusional. Has nothing to do with little girl rape, but now that you mentioned that, just how old are these anime girls you are “partial” to?
Fuck it. That’s way off topic.
I doubt Sony is going anywhere, the PS4 is off the shelf components and much cheaper and developing for it is much easier. They’ve obviously wised up, so I don’t think they are going anywhere.
Are they talking about Sony failing as a whole or just a gaming division? Sony is extremely diverse and has its hands in everything, it’s too big to fail imo.
However if it does happen, its probably indicating a crash in the gaming market. With the current economy stumbling along and as a result, having less people to sell games to, life is difficult. Especially when gaming budgets are continuing to climb. As things are, looks like companies need to learn how to make fun games again that don’t need a tremendous budget and the ability to sell millions of copies to be successful.
This AAA game syndrome has to stop. I personally think that this was the wrong time to release new consoles imo.
@BullDancer The company as a whole dude. The gaming market is actually quite healthy and isn’t going anywhere any time soon. It’s better in many ways than it ever was and worse in many ways than before as well. Big publishers and huge game budgets have gotten out of hand, however, small studios are able to go indy and self publish now a days, so that’s a positive side to things.

Goddamn, are people not buying(or going to) movies and TV shows anymore? Or not buying televisions, headphones, telephones, tablets, laptops and other shit?
I personally think this article is sensationalist garbage, but I’d have to see it to believe it.
I am not buying this projection at all, I’d have to see this with my own eyes. I want to see the source they got it from, because from the looks of it they had trouble interpreting their own source.
I think it’s a BS article too as a whole, but I don’t know anyone who buys Sony Bravia TV’s. It’s all Samsung and Panasonic, and a little bit of Sharp, too. Mostly LCD stuff, and Sony is getting killed there. Too expensive and their color accuracy and image quality isn’t as good as the cheaper TV’s. That’s not even considering that they don’t make plasma anymore, which are considered the most accurate TV’s, but is also a more niche market mainly focused on videophiles. Samsung is destroying Sony on this front.
Headphones, well, how many people do you know buy them? All I see are cheap ear bud phones (that all sound atrocious anyway) everywhere listening to shitty MP3 music. I have no idea what sell for these but I see a lot of Skull Candy at stores. Phones, I haven’t seen anyone with Sony phones. All Droid Galaxy or iPhone or something to that nature. Samsung and Apple all the way on that one. Tablets, again Samsung and Apple. Laptops, I don’t know anyone who has a VAIO. Lenovo, ASUS, Samsung, HP, Apple, yeah. How about speakers and audio equipment? I know no one who recommends Sony. Onkyo, Denon, Oppo, Pioneer, yeah. Sony, Yamaha, and the other oldies rarely ever.
They make most of their money through licensing. Their electronics division has become irrelevant now a days, and what they do have available is priced ridiculously high and I bet you they aren’t even Japanese made components, so why the high price tag other than the Sony name?
They need to wise up on many fronts. I don’t think they’re going to go bankrupt but as far as manufacturing relevance goes, yeah, I see that. They should focus on their movie, music, and game studios, and their services. Ditch the electronics manufacturing unless they really want to compete with Samsung, otherwise, stay out. Focus on PS name, and sell sell sell. At least the PlayStation division wised up, and they’re in the right direction at the moment.
PS4 has been the fastest selling console to date quite the opposite of their PS3 launch, so sony isn’t going anywhere. But sony did mention that this may be their last console generation. Which isn’t surprising based on where gaming is heading these days.
Then you enjoy it and make the world infected. It all starts with YOU!
Hey Rick Ross…if it goes according to plan it should be funny.
HEY, I’M GOING TO JERK OF TO HENTAI! THAT CARTOON STUFF!!! OH YEAH IT’S GONA BE AWESOME…CAN"T WAIT! AFTER THAT I’LL PLAY SOME SCRUB FIGHTER 4 WITH MY FAV CHARACTER JURI HAN!
Ok, since I will be playing exclusively on PC this generation I was kinda happy to see that we had some pro-pc supporters here. And you had really good arguments too, at first. Then something went wrong and the pc dudes start ganging up on some guy just because he likes anime. Fine, it’s not for everyone. But seriously, it doesn’t affect your life in any way if he likes anime girls. This reminds me of the heated debate regarding gay marriage. If it doesn’t affect you you don’t have to care.
To the topic at hand (but still kinda offtopic): I have a hard time motivating anyone to get a console just for the games this generation unless you really, REALLY have your eyes on some exclusive. Pretty much all multiplatform-games ends up on the pc and runs at double the framerate and at native 1080p or higher. Heck, my computer from 2011 maxed out Metro Last Light (except SSAO) and it looked freaking gorgeous. However, alot of people have this loyalty towards console developers. To them it doesn’t feel right to not have a console in the living room, and that’s fine as long as you’re aware of what you’re missing out on. Like games that run at acceptable frame rates (looking at you, gta 4/5 peeps), or games that aren’t upscaled but has a natively high resolution. Sure, a PC is abit more expensive at first, but the games are like half price compared to consoles if you know where to look.
To sum it up: get a console if you want, but from a performance / price in the long run-standpoint the PC wins hands down.
Did you even examine whether any of this makes one iota of sense? The audience growing, if anything, would enable more niche things to succeed. The real reasons why more by-the-numbers things were done:
The red ocean full of sharks: Basically all gaming companies aimed for the same “hardcore” market with all their products that had any actual effort put into them. That market is relatively speaking small.
Second, budgets: These companies put in insane budgets in development and marketing, trying to sell products in hype-driven spikes. When you invest millions and then millions into development, you can’t afford to fail.
Conclusion: If you make the same thing as everyone else into a small market, you will fail. Most people failed to realize that, yet they invested lurid amounts of money into Generic RPG-mechanics QTE Grayshooter #5854 which is what drove the mid-size devs out of business. Most modern devs’ obsession with games as some kind of art that needs to tell a story or make a statement just makes things worse.
