Sonic the Hedgehog v2.0 Continuum Shift (Sonic Colors!)

Its a shame that anyone in this thread probably could lead Sonic in a direction better than the heads at Sega.

I’ll probably cop it later on this week, but $15 for an unfinished game is a little steep

If my plans to become a screenwriter then game designer pan out and I manage to somehow, with Dr. B’s help, secure the rights to Sonic (note: I know it won’t happen, not because Dr. B can’t do it, but because he’s fair and doesn’t pick favorites), I’m totally rebooting it.

But not with Ninja Theory.

Support Dr. B for Mayor of Universe B.

I gotta try out Sonic 4.
I was just bringing back memories of Sonic and putting them on youtube.

 @ but not with Ninja Theory. But if you are trying to get on with Sega good luck with that(And securing Dr. B’s trust lmao)

DAT MUSIC.

Watching those vids I’m shocked I don’t remember how good the soundtrack for Sonic Adventure 1 was. Sonic Team has always managed to scrape up decent music, but Sonic Adventure 1 for me may have been the last soundtrack they made that was legitimately great.(Even Knuckles’ situational observation raps lol).

All flaws would’ve been overlooked if the final boss had this theme…

I’d explain my gripes with the game, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I won’t. However, i will say that Mad Gear Zone was actually quite awesome. It was metropolis without totally being metropolis. I can’t really say the same for Casino Night…err street.

The thing is people DID tell Sega about some of the things that have been complained about…specifically the start up speed and the physics. To give them some credit they did try to improve on the game…at least in the start up speed section which is the most noticable. People who have played the iphone version and then go and play the console versions will probably be able to noticed the small changes here and there. The thing is though when they told Sega ‘hey…Sonic is moving a bit slow on start up to get to his blurry feet…anyway you can fix that?’ they went ‘hmmmm…let’s just move the blurry animation to when he gets to this speed and hope that fixes the problem!’. Sorry Sega…it didn’t work instead you’ve succeeded in making him look like he wasn’t going nearly as fast as he should be.

Physics…Picard facepalms for at least 2 minutes and sighs…I mean when the first real gameplay footage started coming out there were several people who called out on it and still called out on it everytime they saw it. I don’t know how much tweeking they did to the physics in comparison to how it was originally but seriously…I stand by what I said earlier. The whole team of dimps needs to be locked in a room and they can’t come out until they’ve played through them several times. The fans being able to get the physics and momentum right while they seem to be struggling just isn’t a good look.

I have hope though that they’ll hear the criticism and praise and try to do better with Epiosde 2 but we’ll see what happens.

I suggested myself moving it to a different button so people who want to use it can and you less chance of actually trying to do edge jumps and dashing off into a pit of doom. It would work for the 2D games in comparison to Sonic Unleashed where they put the Boost button and the homing attack as the same button (It actually wasn’t that bad but you can imagine what happens when the game goes ‘you meant to boost here right?’). It also allows people to play it without the homing attack at all if they so choose too. And that also opens up the jump button in the air for other things…like shield abilities. Or you can have a controller set up and decide whether you want double jump to be homing attack or shield ability and the other button the same option…having choices is good. YOU TAKING NOTES ON THIS DIMPS!?

In terms of exploring I actually think 3K had perfect solution for incentive on looking around the stages. I’m not saying they should follow what 3K did to a T but they could do something similiar. Just don’t make it a pain in the ass where there’s only ONE specific spot in the stage that you can get to the special stage that’s somewhere thrown about at random.

I’d rather just play dimps’ Sonic Rush titles.

I hope Colors on the DS is good.

Rolling slows you down? You don’t stay in ball form? Homing attack is way to easy? Fuck that.

$5 too much, but a fun game. having to hold forward to go down a hill faster is stupid though. Not staying in a ball while in the air doesn’t bother me for some reason. Game is too easy, then there are stupid parts like rolling the boulder, or jumping on the cards at the end. Not really a reason for these to have bottomless pits or even be there in the first place.

im still perplexed as to why in gods name would they make sonic uncurl when he rolls up a hill?? Beyond the retarded physics, this to me is the most backwards design choice in the game as a whole. I shouldnt have to depend on the homing attack to not get hit when hes always been in ball form in every single game when rolling/spindashing up a hill. Then the other thing that makes the game kind of a chore for me is the lack of momentum when jumping. I could be running at full speed, have to jump over a pit but theres a wall of spikes on the other side of a ledge. From playing all the other 2d sonics, my mind tells me to let go of the d pad at some point in mid air and hold back so when i land sonic begins to go into his brake animation. I do this here and i stop exactly where i let go and fall right into the pit/hazard because i lose all of the momentum. My problems with this game probably wouldnt exist had i not been playing sonic 2d games since 91 and had those laws of gameplay behavior ingrained in me since childhood. So glad someone else bought it and not me lol

So I saw this video of Mushroom Hill in 3D being played w/ Sonic and I heard it was fake. Is that true?

Yeah it’s not real. It’s something a fan did complete with correct physics and everything…

I got linked to this from neo gaf…and this guy basically rips Sonic 4’s physics to pieces. He goes through things step by step. Sonic 4 is still fun but more and more I’m starting to find myself annoyed that everyone else can see this stuff…the simple stuff that actually makes Sonic fun back in the day and it seems as though Dimps just can’t seem to grasp that. I’m not annoyed at the Rush series at all either since I consider it a whole seperate section in the sonic series but if you’re actually trying to recapture ‘the roots’ of the series and make a sequal to those games then I feel this is IMPERATIVE.

Edit: Wow…this guy made the same complaints that you did specs about ‘holding right and winning’ in the lol. Second vid is more so for the people who ‘missed the point’.

Hey I dont know about you ppl but I think Sonic 4 rocked. Yes Ive played and beaten Sonic 1,2,3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure 1&2 with all emblems and A ranks as well as Sonic Heroes, Sonic Advance and more. Point being I know Sonic and his better years.

I uploaded a vid of a speed run I did, Not my fastest or the fastest but fast enough. Oh and I used Super Sonic for this.

Check it out!!!

It was more of a fan project than a fake.

BTW, remember that Sonic 2 Remix game shown a few pages back? Rumor is that it’ll be released to the net by next week

God i love that video…can’t wait to try it. Sega needs to realize that theres a difference between improving on what you have and down right ripping it off.

Your “qualifications” are irrelevant. Sonic 4 most certainly does not rock.

Dr. B + 7 Chaos Emeralds = laks;uyrhpf92yH:OI!Y#GPILUIO*UHBP(@&!FGU

You gotta realize Specs by “your” standards it doesn’t rock. For him, it does. I’ve played the game and it’s aight. It doesn’t feel the same as the old Sonic game in terms of how Sonic himself operates but its far from being a horrible game like some of the 3D games were.

I’m not talking about “my” standards. I’m talking about standards. I’m talking about wanting level design that isn’t claustrophobic, gameplay that feels intuitive (that the Genesis games and Sonic Advance 1 did right), and music that doesn’t sound mailed in.

This isn’t about whether or not it’s good “to me” or to anyone else. The game is mediocre at best. <-- Statement of fact, right there. It’s okay to enjoy a mediocre game, but not okay to call it great just because you enjoy it.

Chaos Emeralds are formed from Dr. B’s man-tears.

Music was always something well done in Sonic game…It frustrates me to no end when i hear this nonesense in Sonic 4. I mean i could record 10 seconds of crap and loop it with little effort loop it over and over again.

Robotniks music is just god awful though. The other games at least were menacing. Even if the fights were simple, it had a threatening mood. 4’s is just clown music.
