Sonic the Hedgehog v2.0 Continuum Shift (Sonic Colors!)

Almost done unlocking everything in All-Star racing, finishing the missions.

I just had a guy rage-quit on me in SSASR. It was maybe the 5th or 6th race, and I had been dominating with Bonanza Bros. So, the match starts with 4 people (people had been coming and going since the first race, but the guy who kept getting second stayed). During the third lap I am in first and other guy is in second (the newer two had already dropped apparently). Anyways, he shoots a Homing Missile and I block it with a Mega Horn. Immediately after I get the message “There are no more players left in the race. Returning to Lobby.” lol.

Also, on the XBOX version, I have the second fastest time on Lava Lair. The guy who has first is glitched, it shows a time but it won’t show his ghost (it shows another, much slower, ghost if you pick him). Honestly though, he couldn’t have gotten a full second ahead of my time without getting lucky with the super jump glitch. In Lava Lair, somehow (no one knows what triggers it yet) you can skip the whole section near the end that has Lava on the ground. You hit the first little ramp (on the right path) and you do a GIANT jump with places you onto the next section of the race). Not only does the launch go faster than normal driving, you also can trick in the air for a lvl 3 boost when you land.

i can’t wait til this thread is about sonic 4 again.

any new info??

^ Nothing majorly at the moment besides the small concept designs that have been getting put up on the website

The update in the next 3 days is just going to be on more concept art and another badnik will be revealed

Edit 2:
wait…what was I responding too below me again?

I hate to say it…but SSASR needs a Blue Shell. The game is hella-unbalanced currently because the person in first is so safe. I’ve played a fair share of matches, and I have won…alot, most by 10+ seconds (even one by 23 seconds). I am not so great that I can just get a 10+ second lead every game, but all you need is a 1 second lead (if that) to secure your win. Second place either cannot get the 3-Homing Missile, or it is extremely rare. Because of this, there is nothing that Second place can do to First that First place cannot stop with it’s own item. Third place, on the other hand, can easily get a 3-Homing Missile and knock Second place back into the pack. Once Second is part of the pack, then there is no stopping first and you get your 10+ second wins. Doesn’t even matter the character…but it helps to have a character with high acceleration and fast charging boosts.

Ahh yess…I think what you’re referencing to is what me and my boys call ‘The Pit’. ‘The Pit’ wasn’t in the first Mario Kart or really in the 64 game but it really started to rear it’s ugly head in MKDS. ‘The Pit’ is basically basically being anywhere from 2nd place to around 6th place. It’s hard to climb out of the insanity of
’The Pit’ because of all the weapons going on in that area. Once you got a good lead out of ‘The Pit’ though you had a chance to mostly chill out and focus more on driving and deflecting and the blue shell every so often. 2nd Place usually got the worst out of being in ‘the pit’ do to having to deal with 3rd place items so you had to defending against 3rd place BS while trying to catch up to the 1st place car. Blue Shell incidents were sometimes the only way to get out of ‘The Pit’.

SSASR didn’t seem to have you getting hit with combos of items at least though from what I played of it. At least not as bad as Mario Kart Wii.

Can anyone tell me the #1 time on PSN Lava Lair? I got #1 on 360 at 01:06:672.

EDIT: Got a faster time.

^ You’re too slowwwwwww!!!

The Sonic Classic Collection came out for the DS yesterday. I forgot to reserve my copy and we only got one at my store which I put on hold for myself immediately. This is it Sega…I’m not getting suckered into buying the same games again unless you give me a good reason to do it. I can’t resist having the games on the go though so you win this round.

Picked up my copy of the Sonic Classic Collection on the DS. I’ll post up thoughts and impressions later after I get a good chunk of play time into it. So far I feel it’s just ‘decent’ but that could change as I try out all of the games. And yes Sonic 3 & K and Sonic 2 with K is in.

i wish they’d release dlc for the ultimate collection on the ps3. i would like the play sonic 3 and knuckles and knuckles in sonic 2.

^ IIRC from the older PS3 thread I think Sega was planning to release the classic sonic games on PSN somehow. Think it was part of that meeting a few months back.

Alright…where do I begin? First let me say that I went through S & K completely and then went through 1 - 3k up to the second level of each. I haven’t touched K in S2 so what I’ll say will be based around that play time. Let me start with the potentially good stuff I have to say first. It’s at least waaaaaaaaaaaay better than that sonic 1 port on the GBA. Regardless of anything bad…nitpicking or not I have to say about this collection I’d still reccomend it IF AND ONLY IF you want these games on the go and don’t already have some type of hack going on in your psp or whatever. If you don’t do any of that then I’d say this collection is pretty nice in that regard and I definitely don’t mind having these games on the go. I can easily see myself wasting away plenty of hours over and over again with this whenever I’m bored and want to take a quick memory lane trip. The games are relatively pretty faithful to their counterparts save some things (which I’ll get into later) even going as far as including the spike glitch from sonic 1 (yeah…I took a wrong turn at alburqurque and ended up eating a 3 piece combo that ended in death).

ok now for everything else

Nitpicks, changes and eyebrow lifts

The framerate of these games is inconsistent. It’s not game breaking by any means like the Sonic 1 gba port but you can definitely see it fluctuating and there doesn’t even have to be anything going on in the screen really. Best example of this that I can remember off the top of my head is when I was fighting Green Hill Zone Robotnik, the ball that was attached to his chain was a dullbrown and didn’t have the checkered pattern on it until later on in the fight.

The screen has been squashed…I noticed this immediately upon turning on S&K’s opening screen. Since the screen is squashed some there are ends to the left and to the right of the screen that you can’t see and the camera will try to adjust according to which direction you’re going. It’s not going to be immediately recognizable until certain parts in the game. Going back to Green Hill Zone Robotnik again…If you were standing on the right platform then part of the left platform isn’t on screen. When you start to move in that direction you can see the camera shifting with your movement. You’d think something like this may affect where you can see and your platforming but I did fine…don’t know if that’s because I’ve played the games so damn much or not though. The only stage I can see this possibly becoming DS throwing worthy would be Metropolis Zone. FUCK THOSE CRAB FISTS!

Sonic 2’s music restarts whenever you get an extra life.

Edit: S & K’s midboss music has been swapped out for 3’s and Knux’s music wasn’t replaced I was mistaken on that.

There isn’t a sound test or 2-player for any of the games. No racing and no Tails control.

The graphics quality took a very small dip. It doesn’t look quite as nice as it’s genesis counterparts. It’s still good just not as crisp.

Kinda funky rendering lines. Not completely noticable until you fight Lava Reef Zone Robotnik.

Sound design is wonky. Music is only slightly dropped in quality but often times sound effects are just completelu absent or missing randomly…the sound the special stage rings make when you jumo into them. Doesn’t happen to often but if you’ve played the games a lot then you’ll notice it.

Presentation in this game is simplistic and near none existent. Barely any extras besides illustrations that already came with the the S & 3K collection on PC.

Edit: Why the hell did they not have pause mapped to the start button? I find it completely unnecessary to have to tap the screen to pause the game unless there’s something going on with the coding with the game.

I’m pretty sure there is a few more but that’s all I can think of right now. If I was to give it a score it’d be around the 7-7.5 range.

Sonic 4 surpassed already?

^Looks pretty sick but yeah I agree with the little too much going on in the background comment.

@sonichuman- thanks for the info mate! I’ll try the game out on our NDS and if I’m satisfied with it I’ll keep it =)

Game looks very pretty but looks like this has momentum issues too…probably more so than what’s in Sonic 4. It is one guy doing it and it’s not complete though so that’s fine. Quite impressive.

Edit:

so i checked up on the sonic 4 website and it looks like something is going to open up in the Multimedia section in the next 3 days. Personally I hope it’s music. I wanna hear some samples of what’s being put into the game. Also what do you guys think about them rehashing all the old enemies from the past 2d games so far? I mean they look nice but I’m hoping they got something original enemy designs in there as well.

There’s a small write up in the new issue of GI about Sonic 4. I’ll provide some cliff notes:

Takashi Lizuka is producing this game and he all but confirmed that Tails and Knux would be playable in Episode II.

Shields do return but from the way it was worded it sounds like it’s only the one-hitter quitter shield.

Cliff hanger ending if you collect all the emeralds from the special stages. No word yet on Super Sonic yet.

Soundtrack won’t have any classic sonic tunes.

I think that about covers any new info that’s from it…has about 6 new screenshots in it that look pretty nice. 1 with what looks like sonic blowing through a wall.

So I’ve read over at GAF that SEGA All-Stars racing had ranked among-
Top 10 PS3 games
#1 NDS game
:lovin:
The sales aren’t necessarily great from what I read but they get the job done.
