I’d say HD was the money grabbing gimmick and you all stupidly fell for it
de BLOO:
really? film is a higher resolution? I thought that the RED ONE camera was like the bes- actually fuck the sarcasm
you misinterpreted what I said btw. 3D is/will be the top visual medium in the near future. film will be recognised for what it truelly is and what people subconciously train themselves to ignore. I love film but it will be nice when everyone has evolved from percieving it incorrectly
The beauty of avatar is that the 3D illusion became less obtrusive as the film went on. You didn’t think about it being a 3D film, but simply just A film.
I’m frightened about it, sure, but it’s something I love to do. I will know once i’m there in the thick of things.
Meh. Hit me up when 4D is available.
I want a TV that can trap me inside my house with no chance of escape and run me through an infinite amount of scenarios with different outcomes…
3d is garbage. the consumer electronics industry’s growth is outpacing the consumer’s desire (and financial viability) for new technology. upgrade to HD tv was a big step, long in the making, as analog TVs have been around for decades. pretty much everyone who was going to buy an HD tv for the sake of an upgrade (and not because their old tv broke) has bought theirs already, but tv manufactures are trying to stretch this surge of income from the viable technology (HD tv) into a constant stream of income by introducing ridiculous technology that hopefully you will still buy, probably for your kids.
i guarantee you if enough people buy a 3d tv, in 4-5 years they’ll have some new kind of tv for sale (not holographic, either, something shitty like DEEP 3D)
I think 3D is the future, not the present. I’ve had the opportunity of trying a both Panasonic’s Plasma and Samsung’s LED LCD 3DTV’s and it’s impressive, even the Samsung’s 2D to 3D upscaling is good. However I think it’s got a long way to go…

Stuff like this in true 3D on a glassesless 3D Plasma would be the defining moment for me when I could say for sure that I think 3D has finally cracked what it’s trying to do…
The human mind knows when its being tricked. So of course it didn’t look real. I’d think people would prefer television because its not trying to trick the brain in the way that 3d does.
Of course this is just me making ungrounded speculations formed by too much television.
I agree whole hartedly with the growth aspect, however 3D is not from a growth aspect, and mroe from a tech aspect. Simply put, the TVs/Tech of today are much better suited to 3D. Hell go back to VHS, to run 3D on that, you’d have ot cut hte resolution in 1/2 or 1/4s. With DVDs the focus has been imag quality, at this point, the image quality isn’t going to be noticably better short of getting better whites and blacks. So the next natural expansion for taking advantage of modern tech is ‘what can be added’…which is 3D.
Now I went to the movies a coupl times this past weekend…and while I’m a fan of 3D, I finally do have to put my foot down…of the ten different previews I saw…I’d guestimate about 8/10 - were advertised in 3D. That is NOT how 3D should be brought to market, every movie does NOT need to be 3D or deserve to be 3D.
I’m sure right now the technology for real 3D(not the garbage we had years before)is still getting better, but as it stands I’m not going to watch a movie at home with shades on. When all this 3D business goes glasses-free like the 3DS, I’m going to have to pass. Unless, there is some inherent weakness that will come with having 3D with no glasses.
As mentioned…and mentioned with the 3DS, you can only look at it from ONE place to gt the 3D effect…so it will work for one person no problem. M$ has it up to 2 people using LED tracking tech, but without glasses, the only ‘known’ ways of 3D require a specific viewpoint. I’m not expecting this hurdle to ever really be crossed short of holographic images.
You guys aren’t the only ones who hate that stupid glasses crap. It’s dumb, but in our lifetimes, we’ll go through this 3d craze at least twice more. Every freakin’ 20-30 years.
Yeah i usually only buy Sony Tv’s as a rule but i couldn’t refuse the gift haha…I think people are forgetting something about these 3D tvs, remember you can switch the 3D off…Its still an amazing TV itself…Monster vs Aliens looks amazing & im pretty sure Avatar & then Tron will look just as good!
Did anyone here watch the World Cup in 3d? I wonder how that turned out…
Dunno about the future of movies in 3D, but sports are another matter. I’m looking forward to watching football games and knowing where the hell the ball is going instead of a “is he gonna intercept? where is the QB throwing in the middle pile-on?” feeling that I get at least once a game.
Saw some demos with people playing soccer, and the depth perception really makes a huge difference.
Holy shit. This is what I want the future to be. I watched that on my regular PC monitor and it looks more 3D than the 3D TVs with glasses I see every week. (I sell 3D TVs for a living)
