SoGo Bar Fightz Round Two Planning

So. The 50-60 people already confirmed before venue change…means nothing…

Yup!!

The Extra 30 means nothing right? Without Sogo I would have never thought Vaughan had a scene

I’m sure you’re exaggerating but this would not of happened.

I think a lot of people are losing perspective here.

Dino is right in A LOT of regards. The setup was flawed in many aspects. A better layout the day before combined with earlier setup from all staff could have created a better flow both for people to move in and out and the amount of stations used in the tournament. Subsequent tournaments should adhere to an adjusted layout in order to accomodate the large number of matches over a small amount of time.

Now then

Dino; Eric was not staff. Eric was never staff. The guy volunteered to help negotiate for the venue. I don’t recall ever seeing Eric say “I’m going to run SFIV” and should not be held responsible moreso than anyone else for playing casuals and/or money matches prior to the tournament starting. He said he’d help find a venue. He found a venue. As far as the rest of us are concerned, you’re dragging Eric into a fight he has no business being in.

I’d like to think if anything the first Sogo tournament was a great experience that worked out well in the end thanks to brilliant on the fly thinking. Subsequent tournaments should use what worked as a blueprint with small adjustments. A major overhaul is hardly needed. Small changes both in seating and in stations needed combined with a TEAM of staff will push what was a great tourney possibly into something major at the next event.

Correction.

Eric talked to the manager AFTER TEAM STC WAS TALKING ME OUT OF ASKING FOR THE VENUE!!!

Eric beat me to the punch in asking for the venue. So really, he didn’t help find shyt, Emily’s Brother suggested Sogo. Team STC me and chyna were meeting there for drinks/wings.

I dunno what you’re upset at anymore. Eric getting credit for finding the venue but not helping with the tourney, or Eric stealing your idea

OK, this thread got out of hand really quickly for some reason. There really shouldn’t be this many people arguing. Can we at least try and keep it civil for once on SRK, without having to use terms like “salty bitch”? Especially towards the guy who basically made this thing happen?

Dinoz, we understand that the tourney could have been set up more efficiently for next time, but in the end it ended at a semi-reasonable time, and everyone who went had fun. Isn’t that what matters?? From your posts it seems like the mistakes contributed to some giant debaucle of a tournament, which just didn’t happen. It’s like you’re yelling at the entire community for things we didn’t do. The main point you’re missing is…

THERE.WAS.NO.SF4.ORGANIZER.NOBODY.NO-ONE.

Eric washed his hands of everything right at the beginning. JayWang made the brackets. Emily collected the money, Vince, Teddy, Gerjay, Russell, Nagata and me helped run the brackets. Whenever you made a suggestion, there was no central person to say “OK, let’s pause the tourney, re-arrange the chairs, setup the extra station.”

The lesson we can learn is to assign someone to deal with those kind of logistics, and to act as an overall director for tourneys of this scale at an outside venue.

I understand you’re annoyed at Eric basically getting all the credit for the venue, and Soul Calibur getting shafted, but don’t take that out on us. Most of us know that if it wasn’t for you, this tournament wouldn’t have hapened.

It was up to the Soul Calibur community to step up and say “we need this TV for our tournament.” I don’t think anyone who was involved in SF4 had any idea what was going on in Soul Calibur, and there was no reason for them to. Putting the blame on us for Soul Calibur getting one corner is wrong imo.

Ok, all that being said, this tournament was a great learning experience. As Justin said, let’s take the lessons we learned from organizing something like this, and move on positively. No need for all this hate.

i blame Hisham!

Seconded!

+1 Anant.

I wasn’t there, but I can certainly tell from the pictures it looked like it was one hell of an event.

Dino: The TV by the SC machine, the owner did not have the wire for it. Could not use it unfortunately. The space, I tried to accomodate as much as possible. When I got there, it was packed from the get go and i knew we were in trouble. I asked the registration table to move to the table you saw them in to get more space. We got the door open when it got sweaty in there and we told people to tip properly to be considerate for our host. While I understand things could have been better accommodated, you shouldn’t say that it would have run completely better if you were there. It ran well regardless of minor setbacks. A few people complained but almost everybody said they had a great time. We will just be more aware next time. SOGO Tournament was a nice tournament. Let’s not think otherwise.

I think this thread completely changed from its topic. Can we get back to it?

Future Sogo Tourny:
I think if we stash away the tables and just let people sit on the floor or something, we can get more space out of the place. The tables were not being used anyways. And the owner had many chairs to accomodate people who want to sit. Just get rid of the tables on the back or something.

I’m for Sogo again but Bleeker being the central place is great as well.

NeoRussell

My biggest gripe.

Is that simple things I told Jay Wang were ignored.

Eric, not for finding the Venue, but for simply being inconsiderate TO THE REST OF THE ORGANIZERZ!

Dj being Shunned

Soul Calibur being Shunned.

Davero being left to fend for himself.

Nobody taking the initiative to setup another TV.

All these things, IMO, are unacceptable.

the simple fact, was that Jay wang was more interested in the waitress when were trying to plan.

Eric wants to be justin wong. Thinks the rules dont apply to him.

Sorry to be a shit disturber guys. But, this is how I voice things. I have nothing to hide. And I dont care about friendships and feeling. When things need to get done, they need to get done.

One of the complaints was how packed it was i there. If more people arrived at 12 and not 1 things might have been better.

If Someone listened to me when I said Lets have Max 64. Okay Max 80. No one listened.

But whatever. I know you guys don’t want to hear it. But some of ya’lls NEED to hear it.

Sugar coating and being nice to people gets nothing done. Period.

I’m boycotting your next tourney because of this post.

DJ had the BEST spot in the house and got his fight money too.

Soul Calibur did NOT have 92 players.

WTF happened to Davero?

We ran HD teams tourney on the 4th TV and when the tourney was over it was turned to SFIV. Another TV wouldn’t have saved us much time compared to if we were coordinated on calling matches and having people On Deck 2 hours before we did. Adding another TV which goes through cycles of 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off doesn’t compare to having the main 3 being in constant use.

Don’t even think about calling out Jay Wang, because he did an amazing job.

Eric… I don’t really want to or know how to defend Eric but I’m pretty sure Justin already did.

If you’re the director the #1 thing is personal relations, not maximum efficiency. It was a great tourney, the people loved it, look at that more than how long it took.

How could people being there at 12 rather than 1 help with how packed it was? This doesn’t even make sense.

Having a cap on a local tourney is retarded, especially for SF4, because every player over our standard 50 or so we get for bleeker is NEW. They are new players in the scene and we want them to stay, not say we’re full and they can’t join.

You’re the one who has this all wrong. Picking on stupid details rather than looking at the whole picture. You didn’t run 4, you don’t know what made it run smoother. You probably don’t even know about how the DJ + 2 setups allowed us to coordinate the crowd in the best way possible without being able to move an inch.

Sorry, I know this was your event, but you’re on a power trip which is the only thing that is unacceptable.

You shot yourself in the foot and killed all credibility right here.

I can’t even put into words how irate I was to read this. You have got NO FUCKING CLUE what kind of sacrifices Justin has made for this community both at its organized inception and during this current revival. That post made me fucking sick.
