Just wondering what internet providers are being used in the Socal area, specifically the Los Angeles/Eastern Los Angeles area. I’m with Time Warner getting 10mb’s down, but my gaming experience has been horrible, especially with SF4 and HDR. The connections are not conistent and I often get lagging durring play even though the game says we have a solid connection. Seems that the service bounces casuing unstable internet use.
I’m considering switching providers since I know Time Warner’s end is faulty based on seeing a lot of complaints throughout the net of the company. I’m considering DSL (Verizon) in the meantime. Any thoughts on the service?
I have verizon dsl and its the same shit, little gaps in the service that cause you to lag, and of coarse everytime they ping you the ping is amazing which is fkn ridiculous.
verizon dsl sucks ass, at least down here in the southbay, but you gotta test it out and see if it works in your area, fuck time warner.
I have verizon fois 20mbs down/5mbs up which I believe is the best thats being offered in california. I suggest you call them and ask if its available in your area.
I live in La Puente, nothing is offered there. j/k. I did looked it up online one time, said it wasn’t available for my area. I live about half a block from a Verizon maintenance station with a big banner advertising fios too.
Depends. My experience with Time Warner has been up and down. It was good during the first year or two after taking over Adelphia, which is who I originally had. Over the past year or so, the internet has been random and I have made several calls to tech support for poor service with no improvements. Either the internet speeds were very low, at time below 1mb down/80-96kbs up. It’s most noticeable on fighters, but is do-able on games like COD.
It might be an area thing, but I think its pathetic to be paying $93.00/month (including cable TV) and not have consistent connections. I’d wrather be with DSL at lower speeds if the connection is consistent. Do search for internet reviews in your area and frequently check your speeds via speedtest.net or speakeasy to see results.
i HATE, Time warner cable i’ve got the fastest shit that they provide and its still not great… (road runner supreme or someshit) the tv service also randomly goes out and movies that get uploaded to movies on demand on the first day of availability have started to have MAJOR problems… i’m talking unwatchable garbled crap (that i paid 3.99 to see…)
if you can, go verizon fios… i’m switching to them as soon as they get off of there asses and finish installing there lines in my apt complex (my friend has them and he SWEARS by them).
all i know is time warner SUCKS… something about this isp just isnt on the ball, it may be that too many people here are using it or something, i have no clue.
I had to switch from Time Warner to go to AT&T DSL. Big difference for online play.
Cable is going to be bad regardless during peak hours for some of your online games. Fighting games are definitely in the mix when you’re using Time Warner. I hassled with them for a good month before I made the switch to DSL. A wee bit slower on the download speed, and it never slowed down at night. Nor did it lag. Definitely worth it.
@SuupaBuu and Dime_X - lol sounds like the same problems I have! I played on an AT&T 3mb DSL connection this weekend with my setup and game, huge difference with consistently good connection and play. I might be switching tonight to Verizon DSL since I already have a Verizon landline. It all depends on how much Time Warner will charge me for this month since I’m a little less than half into the billing cycle.
i have time warner, and as far as sf4 online play goes, it’s really good. however, i have a friend who has time warner as well, and his online play sucks (he lives about 5 miles away), so I’m sure location has a little to do with it.
late night (i’m talking about past midnight), the internet will randomly go out for me, or something will happen where i can’t surf the web save for a few sites like google, and my AIM will still work. it’s bothersome, but it hasn’t been a dealbreaker for me.
I’ve been using Time Warner for about a year now, and aside from the occasional downtime (which hasn’t happened in a few weeks, knock on wood) I haven’t had any problems.
I have the 6mbit down plan (middle of the line), as an FYI.
Look at your bill/online packages, I think the 6mb package got bumped up to 10mb down. I had the same and was surprised to see I was at 10mb down. My bill went up a few dollars too.
