SoCal Garou MOTW Casual Tourneys

Wasssssssup

Well too bad we couldnt meet this past SAT I really wanted to play, but thats cool.

BTW I’m working on a totally new character for me, once again a LOW TIER but I’ll make it a GOD TIER :badboy:

Match vids that will be cool, it will be a good idea to record some match vids when MASTER GIBY, MAGICIAN, and my self when we battle it out for the socal title :nunchuck:

hmm…why didnt i think of using Tizoc’s fients for throws…instead of tryin to combo ppl…3 JH’s in 1.75 T.O.P. thats all I need

This is the thing I love about Garou, a Low tier can beat the shit out of a god tier, if the person knows what he’s doing. I made quite a few low tiers into demons :badboy:

The 3 of us need to get together soon and kick the crap out of eachother, one of us will come out on top, but if its a tie, then it’ll have to be determined by hand-to-hand combat :karate:

HEY!!! WHAT ABOUT ME!!! I DON’T STINK THAAAT BAD!!! :bgrin: maybe I do stink… smells himself … hmm…

Well lets start to plan this thing out guys, GIBY let us know when you are available the magician and I are willing to drive to your place.

Low tiers are so much fun:tup:

About the tie I was thinking of ROCK, PAPER, SCISORS but hand to hand combat sounds fun

I didn’t think there are many true low tier characters in Garou… maybe Freeman. I thought everyone else at least stood a chance. It’s not like pitting Duo Lon against some lower tier character in 03.

true… freeman is the only crippled player in the game.

Ha ha ha. Yeah, Freeman sucks pretty bad, but even he CAN be fun (which should imply that things are NOT 100% hopeless for him… just INCREDIBLY hard). For those who missed the rankings, itz somewhere the hells on srk, but I don’t rem where. Herez another COPY (sorry guys, I don’t know who this came from originally, but thanks to whoever posted it)

Keep Play’n. Peace

somehow, i just don’t believe those rankings are accurate, considering it was done by 46 voters when there are thousands who plays it…

I wish I understood the thoughts behind them as well. I totally consider Grant to be unfairly god-tier compared to everyone, and I can see why Kevin would be good, I really havent seen a solid Kevin whooping before. I think I played one Kevin at evo, and that was it. The Grant there (the guy that one the garou mini-tournie) was just MEAN.

I’ve been playing a lot of Freeman lately, and I can see why hes low tier, but except against Grant, it isn’t the shut out that, say Twelve is in third strike. You have to pretty much throw away half of his moveset, and stick the ones with good recovery; play as safe as possible. He has good punishing moves; s.C xx VODx3 is around 30-35 points, and his BnB seems to be j.A or j.C, c.B xx VODx3. As long as the last VOD is done with C, he is perfectly safe at -1 frame advantage at the end, and his jumping punches do a good job of crossing up. Stick with j.B if not trying for a deep or crossup jumping move. j.B sticks out pretty far and for a good amount of time. Both A and C versions of his qcb move are overheads that leave him at +1 one hit or block, and I usually mix up between the qcb+K moves, AB, c.B xx VODx3, and hcf+K. Thats two moves that connect if ducking, and two if standing. Even though the ones that connect if standing (c.B and hcf+K) are the real damaging ones, they will start standing after to many overheads connect. He has a good number of moves that launch the opponent on critical hit, such as qcf+P, last hit of VOD (delay the last hit some to see), and d+AB (critical hit, opponent in the air), that leaves tons of time to combo a punch super on reaction. Im sure there are others, just learn qcfx2+P on reaction to that style of launch.

Sorry, I’ll shut up now, except to say that Freeman is the only character in any game I now who gets WORSE if the opponent is cornered. In the corner, the hcf+K moves don’t seem to want to connect, even if the opponent is standing.

Ha ha ha. You couldn’t possibly mean ME using Grant could you? Sure I took it, but I mean I was only play’n against like 10 other people. And to be honest, no one there INCLUDING myself was jap quality. Hell, many were there just to support the SNK Comm. I was there for that too, but I mainly wanted to know where I stood against some of the other Garou players (at least in the states). I’m still fairly curious as to how jap players are (I already have some idea).

I don’t really question the rankings, esp w/ jap players. The 2 chars that I DO find a tad bit hard to figure why they are where they are in the rankings are Jae and Hokutomaru. I probably just don’t know enough. This is esp the case w/ Jae. Hez one of the chars that I basically don’t use at all. As for Hokutomaru, I don’t think he should be rated that low, but thatz just my opinion.

Here are some of the things that I would consider when ranking chars:
1) Tricks - does this char have a lot of diff attacks and tactics to really get in those hits (ex: hi-low game)
2) Weapons - does this char have some insanely good moves that just seem to overpower other chars (ex: Terry - Buster Wolf)
3) Speed/Mobility - does this charz attack speed, rolls, hops, runs, etc really help to make this player a threat (ex: Hokutomaru - double jump)
4) Stamina - can this char take a jab w/o losing half their life (ex: ROCK!)
5) Strength - does this char tend to deal out a lot damage
(ex: Tizoc - 360 grab)
6) Guard Crush Game - can this char really keep up the guard pressure on their opponent (yeah, I know I could mention this in another portion, but I thought it important enough to mention on itz own) (ex: Terry - jabs, to Power Charge)

More discussions on this stuff a tad bit later perhaps. In the meantime, KEEP PLAY’N! Peace

Im sure it was. I know there are better players than what was present in the console room, however for me at least it was the first time actually playing a human. We strive for better, and I know my Freeman and Grant are way ahead of the Hotaru I was playing there.

This part had me curious. My understanding was that there are characters who take about 10% less damage than normal (Grant, Tizoc), and characters who take about 8%ish more than normal (Hotau, B. Jenet, and Hokatomaru), the rest take normal damage. Is there something Im missing here?

I don’t know about the exact stats, and I’m not really gonna test em out (you guys are free to do so if you’d like). I DID hear that Tizoc and Grant have higher stamina than everyone else. As far as particularly weak stamina goes, I don’t know for sure if anyone SPECIFICALLY has LESS.

From personal experience, I didn’t think Jenetz stamina was all too bad. I thought it was just about normal. Hokutomaru and Hotaru I’m pretty sure were bad. I definitely thought the same for Rock (thatz my primary gripe w/ him). The general rule tends to be, those who hit fast, and run fast tend to have low stamina as a trade off.

I would stick w/ Hotaru and drop Freeman, but eh, you can TRY raise’n up his tier ranking. Itz a HARD job, but you never know. Grant just seems like a sick bastard cuz it was ME at the helm and I like to play agressively must… toot… own… horn!. Ask The Answer, he knows that can be a weakness. Itz NOT a good idea to be TOO much of anything (passive OR aggressive). Of course be’n that hez a higher tier char doesn’t hurt does it?

Keep in mind I am by NO MEANS an expert on this game. I know a lot about the game, but I’m sure I can be wrong at times. Please correct me whenever you see that I am. It SHOULD help everyone else out as well. Keep play’n! Peace

I think so, too. I was pretty much there for this exact purpose, too. Ready to just donate my money to the pot. I was pretty shocked to see how far I got.

Wish I could play some of you guys…but I live pretty far from where you guys have your group sessions for Garou. Well I’ll try to see if I can drive down sometime if the opportunity comes. Alright take care.

Jaime

OMG!!! Another poor soul stuck in this shit whole known as Lancaster, where the hell do you live west or east side?

As for the rankings, the only 2 I don’t agree with is Dong and Hokutomaru. Dong has very few good combos, his moves come out very slow and are easy to just defend. Dong’s best ground combo is cB, cC, qcf, qcf+B. Hokutomaru’s only downsides are his stamina and the idiot controling him. The reason I say idiot is cause everyone I’ve played who uses him plays all the way on the other side of the screen throwing his projectile and doing his qcb+B/D. He’s a very useful charater if you know how to read your opponent.

The Answer and Magician, anytime you guys are free let me know and you guys can head up here and we can duke it out, and if either of you can, bring a stick or 2, DC pads suck big dick for fighters.

I prefer the DC pads for garou and kof but if that controller is really that bad, then i guess i now know why now i never win!!! :crybaby: gonna get me some SPARKS tonight …

Ha ha ha. I was just about to mention that. Well, it looks like you got yourself another playmate Giby. Not that I’m complain’n, but I still have to drive at least 20 min to get to my closest opponent (which is noth’n… esp compared to 2.5 hours).

Yeah, DC pads suck for just about anything. Believe it or not, I was actually used to that shit for a while when it came down to play’n Garou. After a while tho, it REALLY started f’n up my wrist, so I freak’n put it down. Then I tried out this one adapter that let me use the best controller out there… THE SEGA SATURN PAD. God I LOOOOOOVE that controller! drool

Master Giby - So are you forced to use a DC pad yourself?

Man, I’ve sooooo been mean’n to get myself another adapter. That is the primary prob that I’ve been have’n at these casuals. Just about EVERYONE wants to use a controller OTHER THAN the DC, but I can only supply one adapter.

Shit, I’m kind of strapped too you guys, but I think invest’n in 1 or 2 more will REEEALLY be worth it. I’m actually consider’n a drive like Jerry Lewis for these things whenever we have our next meet’n. I SHOULD have another one by the time we manage to meet up. If you’re down, I can put in an order for you. They usually come out to around $20 (because of shipping).

For those of you who are interested in adapters (to use PS and saturn controllers on DC machines), drop me a line.

More news to come about upcome’n casuals and a possible road trip. Keep play’n. Peace

what… i’m no longer consider an opponent? dam… oh well, back to spinning…

HOKU 12th

I’m very sure i can proove this theory wrong.

I’m enxious to show you guys my new character

GIBY and NOCTURNAL you guys should get in touch so we can all meet when the magician and I go up there
