Yay! Someone other than me recorded my Trish tech! The info is spreading!
I don’t get why you use hulk as the template; every tight link I just find myself second guessing if it’d work on other characters.
Whats the point in sharing CONCEPTS for people to develop new tech if this is the response?
Lol. That’s awesome stuff man; this is what I love about Frank. For a long time I thought he was fairly limited in his choices for streamlined team templates, but I’m seeing all kinds of great new stuff opening up lately.
I’m looking forward to posting a compilation of reliable X/Dante/Frank leveling setups, but unfortunately it’s still several weeks before I’m home. I have my recording stuff, but no computer with the juice to capture it I think it’s a shell with a lot of potential, and Rampage is coming up with even better stuff than me for Mags/Dante/Frank specifically. In a general sense it enables brain-dead leveling with a lot of characters that get level 4 a little less easily than the best point chars–Captain America or Hulk, for example. Not that I’d want to run him there, but it’s generally a cool concept. Personally, I’m particularly interested in Task/Dante/Frank as a side project. Zero/Dante/Frank seems pretty solid as well.
@TheCape also, not sure if you got my PM elsewhere a little while ago, but when I can record again I’ll definitely be down to help out with videos to compliment all the stuff on the “Level Up Strategies” thread. Lemme know if that’s a project you’re still interested in working on over time (or having someone else work on).
Enjoy
Just have a few miscellaneous things that may or may not be of interest to Frank/Dante players.
First, a couple Task/Dante/Frank Leveling concepts. Both of these get lvl 5 with a Jam Session double snap, I was just in a rush when I was recording.
This one doesn’t quite corner press because HSD doesn’t let you end with sj.S. It’s like 95% of the stage, though.
This is a more HSD-friendly BnB that I’d recommend for confirms off Shopping Cart or whatever.
Next an underused and important low-damage leveling technique for Dante/Frank using Grapple. Gets up to level 4.
Finally, a different Dante/Frank capture state DHC using Crazy Dance. Obviously it’s a lot harder, but it gets level 5. Yes, I have now realized that I forgot to take the second picture, but I won’t be able to re-record it for almost a month
(Edited to clarify)
Is there any character that can’t level Frank to 4 or at least 3 now?
I think the idea is more that 1) Lvl 3 doesn’t justify having the Frank liability 2) The lvl 4/5 has to be doable from any hit confirm, not just standard ones. IMO if those 2 criteria aren’t met, you can’t justify using Frank over a more stable char… Meaning we still have to get creative with team compositions to make some characters legit.
For example I just posted Task/Dante/Frank BnBs that open up a lot of options, but i would never run that team with current tech because snapping Dante would basically collapse the game plan.
EDIT: By which I meant to say, in answer to your question, no, but Task is about as close to nothing as you can get I think. A few characters level from behind better than the front.
Dante seems to be a bit en vogue for giving point characters chainsaw opportunities that weren’t previously available, so you could probably get chainsaws with characters on point not previously thought of as an option as long as you had Dante as the glue. Certainly doesn’t make everybody level up practical nor does is make it a good team just because you can get chainsaws. I wouldn’t care if Hsen Ko Ghost Rider Frank could get level 5 on one touch meterless, I’d still never play it (an extreme example, but even teams with good characters aren’t necessarily good choices. Wolverine/Frank is my favorite example of this).
God Noel brown’s team makes me cringe. And yeah Dante doesn’t make everyone possible, but it does allow a lot more options. Really my problem is that these X/Dante/Frank teams seem very vulnerable to Dante snaps.
I was thinking about Rampage’s Mag/Dante/Frank post and really wondering if Mag/Frank/Dante wouldn’t be better. You can still tag/THC (Mag’s in cooldown) and you can skip hypergrav loops to tag in Dante and DHC with either Million Dollars or Grapple/Crazy Dance for extra meter and 3 separate damage-ranges to work with depending on opponent health. That way if Dante gets snapped you’re not looking at Dante/Mag/Frank and praying for either an unreliable Skydance hard tag opportunity or a swift death.
Taskmaster can get Frank to 3 by DHCing from vert arrows super to whiffed tools, it just doesn’t get enough hits to get to level 4. Jam Session and Spencer would fix this, so would Haggar, but sometimes that cuts in on overall synergy.
There’s only two teams I’d say that allow Task/Frank to actually “work” and that is Task/Trish/Frank and Task/Frank/Dante, they all get Frank level 4 or 5 off most hits, and if Trish is snapped in she has mobility and can Round Harvest out into a possible unblockable. Dante, if snapped in, at least has a decent projectile assist and can get Frank back in with sky dance. Task/Vergil/Frank is certainly okay for leveling off confirms, but I feel the push to set up levels will go sour because Vergil second likes spending meter for free advantage, something he has to be more cautious of when Frank needs 2 meters at most times.
The only reason to use Task/Frank is the Free hits Task gets in the corner by doing shield skills and cart at the same time into DP+M unblockables. There’s definitely potential with the pair, but it’s SO finicky, other simpler points often make more sense.
Hawkeye and Strange. Strange can get level 4 on very specific setups, Hawkeye likely not at all.
I agree wholeheartedly with the second point. I have no problem with Task execution in the few casual sets I’ve tried him in (using the above Task/Dante/Frank), but I think his neutral game is really nuanced. I don’t see much point in playing him with being really fluent in his advanced setups.
I do kind of disagree with the first point, though. If there’s a way to consistently level with point Task and end up with Frank/Task/Dante, I think you’re putting yourself in a pretty strong position if Frank dies. I’m not a Task player, but I’ve heard people with more experience say Jam Session is very good for Task–second maybe to Tenderizer for unblockable setup versatility.
…my point being that my current goal is to find teams that are still strong if Frank dies but don’t sacrifice synergy the way, for example, using Vergil would. I main Nova/Frank/Dante and I’m really not terribly impressed by anything Nova/Dante offers besides maybe the reset game. I think the search to find perfect Frank support kind of loses sight of that secondary element sometimes and it can lose matches!
Man if only Hawkeye had some solid hard tag tech… I was trying to get a consistent combo into the net arrow hard knockdown, but I just don’t think it’s possible without assists… Which means no tag b/c the assist’s on the screen Guess you’ve never found anything along those lines? I can get level 4 using Hawkeye/Dante/Frank and the devil trigger DHC, but I don’t like the Frank/Hawkeye/Dante order that leaves you with very much :-\
EDIT: BTW @TheCape, you could add “Net Arrow (vs airborne opponent) into HTW” to Hawkeye’s meagre list in the lvl strats thread. If you get time obviously… I realize that’s kind of a thankless job for how awesome that thread is
EDIT 2: It’s actually HTH or HTW by spacing.
Got a good way to get them airborne into it? Maybe a standard magic series combo into Trick L~M and net arrow? I did find the two for concepts that I posted before, but nothing really good so far.
I whiffed it a couple times but it was my first time selecting Hawkeye. It might well have been my execution, so I’m gonna try that again for sure. I just had a feeling that if that were possible it’d be more visible as a Hawkeye ender (Trick L~M Net Arrow Trick L~L Gimlet) or a conversion into net loops for meter/spacing.
You can connect Net Arrow from superjump height, but it doesn’t give the hard knockdown for whatever reason. How’s the recovery on that s.S TK (whatever DP arrow) xx Gimlet that causes a slow fall? Not sure if if does that without a DHC either… But if not there’s a chance you could net arrow as they fall… That’d mean the hard tag costs a bar, but you only need like 18-19 hits to get level 4 if you can call Jam Session, so it would still be practical without a THC.
Kind of thinking aloud bc I won’t be able to try stuff till tomorrow. I’ll see if I come up with anything to add.
Can’t test atm, but would Hawkeye Combo–>S–>TK midscreen Gimlet—> BLS work?
NSR: Pretty sure it does, the only real issue there is spacing. If you can find a way to get yourself into a corner then it should work. I dont think any of his trick maneuvers work that way.
Oh my god yes lol. That was a real pleasure to watch I gotta say.
Yay another Frank that actually does the real BnB’s! That Team Norcal player was ass though.
