Me and my bro will be at EVO west and Finals playing VF and ST…Stun palm of death FTW!
I see. I didn’t think she had made such an impact on any tourney because I had looked only at the replays included on the VF4:Evo CD and saw that not only was there hardly any Sarah players, but the biggest one (BlackWidow) wasn’t doing so well.
It is curious how she is such an unpopular char. Especially considering that Yu Suzuki himself said she’s his favorite. (well, that was sometime ago. Don’t know if it’s still true) But then again, it just seems to be something that happens to all the blonde chicks in fighting games. Sarah, Lili, Cassandra… Although strangely this doesn’t seem to apply to Helena. Maybe Tina. How popular is Sophitia in the fixed Arcade version of SC3? [/random observation of the day]
How clever of Sega that the most popular chars are the ones who officially won VF tourneys in the story. Have we found out who officially won VF4 yet? Perhaps it was Jacky.
Did anyone see Chibita on G4’s Icons? (the older Icons, when they were actually about games) Cool guy. He got the name because he was very short (chibi) as a kid. They also showed a cute Japanese chick who’s name I can’t remember. (“Angel” was part of the name)
I’ll be representing SA and Goh. Although to be fair all my actual vf play goes on in columbus.
Let me know when you plan to come into the city and we can try to work something out.
Storywise, it was Kage and Shun about to fight in the finals. Dural popped up and interrupted the match. Kage faces Dural and defeats her. :xeye:
Chibita was dominating VF3 when he was 14. There is a Jeffry playing prodigy named Chibitarou, he started playing at 6 years old! :amazed:
The girl’s name is 1st Angel. A strong Akira player.
Wow. How old is Chibitarou now? I was pretty good at VF2 and Kids when I got my Saturn many moons ago. (I was 11)
Given how many Virtua Fighters there are, there’s no reason the same one should be winning more than one tourney yet. That’s incredibly lame, Sega.
Does 1st Angel still play? On Icons, she said she may be dropping out of the scene or at least not playing as much. Well, when she settles down and has kids anyway. She was in her 20s at the time of the interview I think, so I don’t know how much longer she plans on waiting.
kunonabi, Goh’s become quite a beast since Evolution. Looking foward to good matches with him.
yeah, I’m extremely pumped about vf5 Goh. I’ll be getting my first crack at him tomorrow. i’m so happy vf5 made it so I actually have a tourney to enter(I’m entering 3s, but thats just to help foster my local XvsSF scene) instead of just camping around the byoc area.
Yup, that would be me. In Evo/FT, to play Sarah well meant you had to have a very solid understanding of the game system as well as being able to do all stance/character specific combos without thinking and understand Flamingo usage, even in Japan, there were very few Sarah players because of this. In 5, since she is super nerfed, you have to know everything from 4 and have a very very deep understanding of how Flamingo works which means there are very few Sarah players these days much less good ones. That said, I am playing Sarah still with 70% win rate in central Tokyo.
Hey, congrats! :woot:
Yeah, that’s how I saw Sarah as well. I occasionally see people suggesting her to newcomers and I’m thinking “What are you doing? You have to know VF4/5 because you can do well with her.” I mean, I did not like her at all when I first played VF4 because I couldn’t do anything with her. Then after mastering VF4 itself through Pai and Aoi, I gave Sarah another try and since then, she’s easily been my favorite. :china:
Well, anyways, I hope you’ll be coming to Evo World this year. I’d love to play you, and I’m sure you’ll find my Sarah most formidable. :china:
I have nothing to show for proof of my skills except . Yeah, it’s only the AI, but it was still difficult.
Lmao, Ohsu Akira AI.
Yeah, keep us poor american’s posted on any Japanese players (or peeps like you and Nam) who are coming to EVO, Shou.
Cla: There are actually still some Sarah main players left in the USA though most of them tend to play other characters as well. Off the top of my head I can think of…
GoatCheeseBlues (SoCal- taught me how to play Sarah)
Purpguy (Ohio- plays with Maddy, Dandy J, and rest)
Kaminari_Oyaji (STL)
and I think Konjou Akira in NYC plays sarah but he probably mains Akira. Don’t quote me on anything, I’m a newbie.
yeah we have a nice variety here in ohio
we got:
Brad(bradshow)
Akira(maddy)
Wolf
Lion
Aoi
Kage
sarah
and my scrubby goh
maddy of course tools around with a few others.
I used to keep up with VF4/Evo news and haven’t seen Chibita’s name in the top 10 nor in any matches. I wonder if he either stopped playing or he just fell off as the best in VF.
I’ll be practicing up (along with a few other SoCal heads) for some of the VF5 action…
So any new love for the game since it’s been out for a while?
EVO South is coming up guys, practice your VF. :karate:
I’ll be playing VF5 in the East, it’s a **great **game. I still miss SC2, those were some fun times. Glad to see VF back though.
It’ll definitely be on PS3, right? I know the X360 version comes out this summer, but the PS3 version is already proven to be arcade perfect. I’d also like to try and get the Virtua High Grade stick once they re-ship, since the adaptors have lag. Worse comes to worse, I’d play better on the PS3’s SIXAXIS compared to X360’s “controller.”
Yeah, unless I win that huge MegaMillions jackpot, I probably won’t be at Evo South. Still don’t have a definite answer if I will be at East.
Yama, what adaptor were you using that lagged? Have you tried this one from Radio Shack?USB Adapter for PlayStation2 Controller
Model: 2600729It’s actually an adapter for PC, but it works on PS3 as well. Simply turn on the Analog and play. I got to use some at a DR tourney and didn’t notice any problems.
By the way, not that it matters since you all will be buying the game anyway, here’s X-Play’s review. (which has also now been edited into the first post of this thread)
I’ll be at Evo West for VF5 and heck if things turn out well…Evo World. In the meantime, I’ll be heading out to some local So Cal tourneys and practicing with 4FT and 4Evo.
Now on to the only problem that’s left…actually getting a PS3 and VF5…
Amen, I freaking wish Sega would’ve released this for arcade in the world instead of freaking japan only.
There are PS3 console gatherings held in Socal every thurs/fri/weekends. Check out the SoCal thread at www.virtuafighter.com
The usually have at least 2 set ups with a Virtua High Grade Sticks (godly peices of electronics).
Also what times do you head out for FT (I assume at Arcade Infinity)? I’ll play some games with you since I can still afford a little FT play here and there.
my beef with playing vf on the ps3 is the system tends to skip quite a bit. well, on the one I played anyway.
You mean controller hiccups or the actual game skipping frames? In the case of ther latter, playing in 1080p might cause that. Which I guess is why the game forces 720p if you have both 720p and 1080p checked in the PS3’s settings.
Something I’ve been curious about: I wonder how many people coming for VF5 will also be playing Tekken: DR. (and vice-versa)
raises hand
I’m coming for DR (and obviously the 2D games); VF5 is just a nice plus.
On a side note, I use Nina in Tekken and Sarah in VF. Coincidence?
