SO Who do YOU Main?

Labrys spoke to me right away.
I plan to make sturdy back ups in Yokiko, Yu, and Mitsuru in time.

yosuke. i’m getting my shit pushed in online ranked. i need to just calm down and block correctly, but i get so flustered in this game.

Mitsuru. Loving her so far, she has so many useful tools. Learning a little bit more about her matchups every time I play.

Hate fighting Yosuke, though that may be more me not knowing the matchup (made worse by almost nobody playing him online) than lack of options. Hate that goddamn parry so much though. Harder to see, bait and punish than Akihiko’s weaves/counters or Naoto’s DPs, and looks like it recovers a lot faster too.

Having some trouble with Yukiko too. I keep air dashing into her trying to get around the fan/persona/agi pressure and getting smacked in the face. Her air normals seem to beat j.A every time if I’m in range. Probably should be using air DPs more often.

Im trying to give Teddie a fair chance, but a nigga is struggling.

It’s the ridiculous jab pressure and frame traps that makes Mitsuru good right off the bat; it makes her a solid character to begin with. But when I think of a character with many useful tools, I think of Narukami. Speaking of Yu, that’s pretty much the only matchup you should have a challenge with (only character that has 5-5 matchup with her, if I remember correctly), as your character naturally has the upper hand against the majority of the cast. The limited resources that Mitsuru has just work very well for this game engine.

And I have trouble with Yukiko in general. Though I’ve found that slowly making your way in patiently, blocking and advancing forward is the way to go. So many times I’ve just tried rushing in immediately when I found the chance, and that’s just not the way to go against a character like that, since even the simple fans will interrupt any reckless dashing and air dashing attempts easily.

To be honest, I haven’t had much trouble with Yu at all so far. I haven’t played any incredible Yu players yet, so maybe this is different at high level play, but the ones I’ve played seemed good enough to know his general mixups and general approach (from what I’ve seen people do on the launch tournament) and it didn’t seem to be much of an issue. His high-low stuff was pretty easy to get around if you know they’re coming, and you can DP his air dash stuff on reaction. As long as you don’t mindlessly rush in every chance you get, he doesn’t seem to have anything particularly good against her main game outside of his DP, and if that’s the only thing he’s going to do, you can just bait it out.

I really don’t think she has limited resources at all. Standing 5A is obviously one of her best normals, but there’s so much more. 5B escapes throws and gets huge FC combos, 4B is great for baiting reversals (like Narukamis that use too many DPs when they’re cornered), 6B helps you adjust your range when it’s off in a combo (i.e. charged FC 5B or 4B at max range), 2B’s hitbox is way better than it looks (I’ve had a lot of success using it vs. Teddies doing adf > j.A), her DP is one of the best anti-airs in the game, EX Mirror is incredible at catching people off guard mid screen, her standing and jumping Ds are great when you’re just outside 5A/A Coup range (and don’t think they will dash in, potentially because by this time you’ve scared them from doing that with your 5As - like when you end a combo with Coup on Naoto and she tries to backdash or gun on wakeup), j.B is a great way around certain matchups (i.e. when you have Kanji cornered and read a command grab or DP reversal).

I didn’t even know until I found out by accident yesterday, but if you do a full charge on her sweep she moves forward while crouching without actually attacking (and without getting the sweep recovery frames). Seems like that might be useful against Naoto shots and Yukiko fans if you can’t/don’t want to risk an air dash (I’ll probably have to go into the lab and test that out later).

Then there’s things like A/B coup mid range and EX coup just outside that range (seriously EX Coup is incredible - probably my favorite move after her 5A). She has a ton of tools, they’re just really precise in when they’re useful and not necessarily intuitive right off the bat (I’m still getting used to using her air DPs and and ice mirrors; sometimes I forget I have them, only to watch a replay and go “fuck, that’s what I should have done!”). So far from what I’ve been playing, the solution to every situation has been to just use a different tool than what I was trying before. Coming from Marvel and playing against things like Zero/Vergil mixups, it’s refreshing to play her. I feel like no matter what happens, there’s always something she can do.

Naoto - really neat character with more than one win condition. I almost equate it to playing Magic

Want to learn Chie, Kanji, Aigis, and Akihiko though

Check up on the Mitsuru thread. I put some advice there and combos are now posted there as well.

And this is why Elizabeth should not be underestimated. Ever.

I am a teddy player always have been always will be

Im not 100% sure, but im liking Chie right now

THIS…IS…EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! Loving Persona 4 Arena.

I play Mitsuru from time to time but dammit I wish she wasn’t a charge character. I get it…but dammit.

I’m not too sure yet, I just got the game today and haven’t tried most of the characters yet. I’m trying to find out how each character plays and find the character that suits my style of simple execution rushdown. Right now, I’m kind of liking Yu, Mitsuru, Shadow Labrys, and Elizabeth.

Been trying to learn Liz on the side, just so I can zone folks out and yell Disruptor to piss them off every time I do Ziodyne (besides, who knows ChrisG just might find some broken shit we can use).

naoto all day for me

i want to learn akihiko :I he is a more badass version of ryohei sasagawa (katekyo hitman reborn)

Chris G’s Liz is pretty sick. He makes you wonder if the broads over powered. Just about every hit means serious trauma is on its way. Regardless of her having the lowest health, she and her persona are total power houses.

A little over a week later:

6322 total players -> 11699 total players (+85%)

1556 Narukami players -> 3159 Narukami players (+103%), now 27% of all players
1327 Chie players -> 2648 Chie players (+99.5%), now 22.6% of all players
1022 Akihiko players -> 2348 Akihiko players (+130%), now 20% of all players
870 Elizabeth players -> 1868 Elizabeth players (+115%), now 16% of all players
802 Mitsuru players -> 1808 Mitsuru players (+125%), now 15.5% of all players)
792 Labrys players -> 1642 Labrys players (+107%), now 14% of all players
728 Yukiko players -> 1620 Yukiko players (+123%), now 13.8% of all players
708 Kanji players -> 1644 Kanji players (+132%), now 14% of all players
707 Yosuke players -> 1591 Yosuke players (+125%), now 13.6% of all playyers
587 Naoto players -> 1443 Naoto players (+146%), now 12.3% of all players
561 Teddie players -> 1300 Teddie players (+132%), now 11.1% of all players
496 Aigis players -> 1124 Aigis players (+126%), now 9.6% of all players
304 S.Labrys players -> 753 S.Labrys players (+148%), now 6.4% of all players

Not much change in the numbers, though Kanji has made a small jump up in the rankings. Akihiko, Naoto, Teddie, Kanji, and S.Lab also show more growth than the other characters, though only Kanji moves enough to move himself up in the rankings.

So yeah what’s with the lack of Shadow Labrys players?

And where are those statistics from, online or Japan arcades? I’m pretty sure I read there’s a lot of Shadow Labrys in Japan, just not online.

I main yukiko because i thought that not too many people would main her because of her tier and playstyle but since i guess not to many play aigis ima give her a go. I wonder why no one play aigis she looks really good??
