I see where your coming from Killey, while Jin is far from being the toughest character to fight (I’ve yet to fight a clap looping Carl, so for now my most dreaded match is Arakune ) I think a lot of people here are just sick of fighting so many of them as they’re everywhere online (it’s the same with Nu so we can’t pin all this hate on Mr. Kisaragi right?), I guess we could chalk all this up to whining… anyway this topic is getting old (character hate threads get stale really fast) so I’m out :smokin:
I didn’t try to make a hate thread, I just wanted to know why there was some hate for Jin and why he seem more hated then the big 3 to me. Mostly because I sub Jin.
When it comes to the other big 3 there is no question as to why people don’t like them, so there is no real need to make a thread about them.
However with Jin I knew he wasn’t overpowered or broken so I didn’t see why people would hate him. And now I know the many reasons why, although the reasons seem to be more about some of the people that play Jin and less about Jin him self.
That’s probably because a lot of people have no access to local competition and have to resort to online play.
And it just so happens that with lag, Nu doesn’t have her doing everything on reaction stuff and since one missed sword = death, Rachel loses some of her combos and dunno about Arakune, guessing it may screw the timing on his bug loops.
But Jin on the other hand gets buffed like crazy by lag with his icecar becoming safer so it’s natural that a lot of people stuck playing online only will hate him.
We’re is the hate actually coming from, exactly?
Are we talking about online players? If so, last time I check, I don’t recall seeing a bunch of scrubby Jins online, I see a bunch of scrubby players, PERIOD!
Honestly, I have replays of playing random players on Ranked online with guys level 50 and above (using different characters) and winning over 30 games in a row doing the SAME stupid thing OVER and OVER (which was fireball when they were on the ground, and once they jump I uppercut, The End).
So really, it’s hard to say “I have Jin players, there such scrub players” if this is coming from an online point of a view seeing as how everyone online just sucks. Not to mention, it’s hard to judge people’s skills online because once again, it’s online. You can’t really tell how good someone is with input lag.
Ok while I do understand where you are coming from with playing scrubby players almost all day. What I think you’re not seeing here is the actual reason most people hate Jin.
Its the fact that some of his moves leave you in block stun for large amounts of time, and that other moves while slow have ridiculous priorities and can be spammed. His combos all lead into the ice car as well, which if timed right they can spam the slash move, not sure what the input is but its when he swings his sword around like a 12 yr old girl twirling a baton, and it will actually hit because of online lag. So to me its not hard to see why people hate Jin. However I do agree with you that if they played better Jins, and not the scrubby button masher ones theyd hate him even more. Or it could even be the fact that with PSN or XboxLive lag, Jins moves that are normally techable, punishable, or even spammable become high priority over your 5A, B+C, and DPs. Although I still agree that you should be able to see these moves coming if you call yourself a good player.
And honestly level doesn’t mean anything on this game. Ive played lvl 10 Hakumens who stomped my Ragna, and lvl 25 Tagers who could predict moves of a lvl 50 Noel player.
Iduno you are 100% correct with this one, I have absolutely no decent competition in my area. So yes I do resort to online play as a means of learning the game. I know that playing Ragna Ive done combos that will hit guaranteed no questions asked, and people have jumped out of the 4th hit of the combo because of lag. Jin just seems to me to be more proficient at abusing lag. Especially with scrubby mashers playing him.
My advice to learning why people hate Jin so much is to read up on dustloop about his block stun. And think about the effect block stun has on lag.
Jin’s just a beast. I have owned this game for approximately 15 hours as of post, and I’ve just decimated with this dude. Spam not withstanding, I’d say a lot of the hate would stem from his Sub-Zero-ness, which many of we older players still haven’t got out of our systems from the 90’s. Any freeze manuevers are going to hack off someone just looking for a good game. Just like Zero, you learn to deal or trade your disc back in and go play some Dora game until your pair drops.
His angles of attack and ease of pulling off his special moves make this a character I’m going to develop no matter who is crying about it!
Like what moves?
You have to realize that all his special are un-safe on block (not counting EX, but it takes bar to use those moves so they better be save on block).
Standing D is no ways spamable.
And the only moves I can think of that are slow but have ridiculous priorities would be down D and forward D, which both moves CANNOT be spam. Any other moves are un-safe, if you don’t see that sounds like you just need to play more.
Not all.
For someone who plays a lot of Jins, you don’t know the match up at all.
Figure out his un-safe stuff, seriously they are punishable as hell.
I fight a lot of good Ragnas and D drive Noels.
I’m going to guess the fact that Icening can punish almost any whiffed move within half-screen range as the reason.
It does pretty solid damage too, if it lands.
I really don’t have a problem with the player playing Jin himself. Only sometimes when you get the “shake the stick, oh wait it’s another throw, fuck now I gotta shake it again” syndrome that bothers me.
It’s just the fact that the stupid developers make it so that you have to shake your damn joystick in order to get out of it. I swear, about 1-2 hours of playing, you kinda get the feeling that your controller or precious $150 stick is about to fall apart.
The only character I hate the most is Arakune. But that’s a different story.
Just jumped onto ranked, 5 laggy ****ing Jins in a row with safe lagcars and ice.
This is where the hate comes from.
I dont hate jin. I just hate the fact that he is the most used and therefore the only oppenent I get online. Makes for a boring time.
I don’t mind fighting anyone in particular. Jin doesn’t strike me as a big deal either way. Input lag does change certain properties, and characters like Tager and Jin are very different online and off. Both are less punishable, and even when I’m deliberately baiting the DP out of Jin, it’ll still catch me. Annoying, but I’m much more frustrated by how much more difficult Rachel’s tighter links are online. The amount of times that her super doesn’t connect, or I miss frog combos that are normally simple, annoys me much more than icecar spam.
But I mostly play offline, so getting caught by something that’s normally easy to defend or punish doesn’t bother me too much. It’s hard to take online matches too seriously. I just use it to see different styles of play, and learn match-ups.
The jin hate is there simply because of his Ice ability…I mean even Iceman dosen’t freeze characters for that long but jin can? I don’t think aksys was thinking correctly when they made jin (or BB for that matter) but I will say this…
BANG IS AWESOME!!!
The thing about Jin is that there is no downside to him. He has all the tools and none of the weaknesses. He has four DPs, a reversal super, Force breaks (this is a big one), appreciable damage, freezing that must be mashed out of, the works. And here’s the kicker. He has roughly Tager level defense.
Jin isn’t a broken character, but when you fight a Jin that knows that he’s doing you’re going to have a hard time. You have to spend an inordinate amount of time beating on him and dealing with all of his above-averageness, and since he’s the third or so most played character it gets tiresome very fast.
Yea I can see where some of the hate comes from. Not to bring SF4 into this but it’s kind of like seeing only Ken, Ryu and like… Sagat/Akuma or something constantly online. Where it’s not so much the character but just fighting them all the time and the players doing the same thing over and over when it doesn’t work. That’s just how it is in my opinion.
If you press the D button more than C then you are definitely a scrub who’s not trying to learn him.
I’m personally pissed as all hell because I main Jin and play him very decently.
But then like 80% of the matches I end up playing becomes a mirror match where the other Jin cheeses Icecar like a mad-man. It’s absolutely retarded because they’ll do it over and over even after being punished repeatedly. You DP C them out of a icecar, you super C to catch them, you block then grab and follow up with a 4k combo and they’re still cheesing icecar! #@#%#% !!!
Really insults me (I know, just a game, taking it a little too seriously…) because it just makes us decent Jin mainers look like scrubs and as mentioned before, it’s boring as all hell.
I play Nu (go ahead and hate on me) and when I get an ice car spamming Jin, it’s really fun to mess with their heads. I can IAD backward into a jC, which always clips Jin out of the ice car and sets him up for further comboing. That, or you know, the normal 3k to 4k damage punish for insta blocking a random ice car when I’m just standing there.
If you’re getting trolled by Jin, then it’s your fault for letting that happen. :3 There’s stuff called Just Defending and punishing DPs. If you play too many online Jins, then it’s high-time you play with your local BB scene.
jin sucks i hate taokaka more, jin is easy block icecar or one of his dps and then punish tao can rush you like a motherfucker and put you in 50 fifty set ups.
