I think you’d have a hard time finding numbers like that in most communities.
But I am saying where are you assuming we are the few? Everyone I know personally that plays melée plays everything else (GG, BB, SF, CvS)
Why do people think only nintendo fanboys play it? Idk if more than 50% of everyone who has bought SF4 plays like the people on here or various games at all. If they even know this community exists.
I’ve seen posts on SWF saying that “Oh, i dont play street fighter cause itz not az deep as smash” and like the whole thread agrees with him, and then one person suddenly feels obliged to bash srk and a someone tells them to gte back on topic and a whole buncha shit.
Point being that smashers play smash.
Just like FPS junkies play FPS.
FG players play FG’S
Point is that though SOME may cross over, the general community will stick with their genre/game, not that that’s a bad thing. (You DO need to practice after all)

I think that it was the competetive 2d fighters and smash thread. A buncha people agreed with him. I’ll see if i can find it.
Because people can look at tournament entries from events that have had both Smash and FGs and less than 10% of people who enter Smash enter anything else?

First of all, Texas Hold’em and Five Card Stud are still the same game–poker. The betting and shared cards make them different, but the game is still fundamentally the same.
Secondly, and for the 11 Millionth time SRK DOESN’T HATE SMASH AS A GAME, WE HATE THE SMASH COMMUNITY.
I personally LOVE casual Smash. I love playing Brawl casually way more than most current FGs, especially SF Snore and Blandblue.
But the fact that I absolutely loathe the asinine tournament rules and the completely immature community of whining man-children means that I will never ever be interested in becoming a competitive Smash player.
Now I never the pleasure or honor to play Melee, but if the gameplay of Brawl came from the idea that they had to dumb it down for fans is insulting to me. Like you all have said Melee became the best (one of the best?) selling games on the Gamecube, so I don’t see where they came with the idea to tone it down. Now that I hear it could’ve possibly been even better and made more fun for the hardcore crowd, that upsets me.
I too, am insulted that they would change a game that I self-admittedly NEVER FUCKING PLAYED.

i have organized tournaments in the past for various games, smash meele included and let me tell you its very frustrating to deal with such childish, sttuborn, inmature community like the smash one, they tryed to take the space for the other games for smash, many of them come talking how smash is a better game than the others on the tournament and shit like that, its sad because for these bad experiences with the community i had to stop making tournaments, sad because i only did it for some friends that play smash, but they are cool cats, funny thing, they dont play other fighting games, but at least they arent stupid like the opther smash players

Most of the Smash players Ive played with ( I think some guys named Lucien and like CUbaisdeath I guess Pros IDK… ) Play other fighting games most of the time. Those are usually the Smash players who You can deal with. I guess its the Same for any community. Its just more apparent in the Smash community because they play mostly on GC/WII and Not everyone has every console, Or likes to play on a fightstick. Also most people over a certain age dont play Smash…
Oh yeah, speaking on the community vs the actual game… I have never had a positive experience with anyone who played smash on a ‘serious’ level. It’s always been very… Annoying.
I think its funny that people complain that smashers don’t play other fighting games; can you really blame them? Why in fuck’s name would anyone want to join a community that openly derides them? One of the reasons that I was put off of picking up Street Fighter is because the majority of people in this site are arrogant fuck heads who spew the most uninformed bullshit I have ever heard in my life. If nothing else I can say that the Smash community is mostly devoid of people that make newcomers feel unwelcome.
Okay Obviously you dont know the Difference between " Community " and a “website” everyone knows the internet is all bad.

I hope you know that like 60% of this website never supported the community. Hell even i took it upon my self to practice at an arcade with Fighting game heads heads before going to an actual tournament. Hence why i don’t call SWF the smash community because i know for a fact that less than 10% have never been to a tournament. You kinda sound like one of them.
Unless of course, they want to play with items.

On behalf of the Smash community (which I don’t represent I’m just one person but whatever), I apologize for whatever the fuck this thread turned into.
It’s sad that Sakurai feels the way he does. But we have some amazing programming talent in our community, so we’ll hack the new games as they come out. Everyone wins, right? They get their game, we get ours.
