Now do parries interfere these players? As in is there enough of a problem in which majority of the players won’t play 3s without parries? I mean if one is to get mad then make your own non parry tourney. It’s still 3rd Strike no matter what. With parries or without. Is it not?
I think the main problem you guys have, correct me if I’m wrong, is that there is no set standard for the game. If there was an arcade release with no items and specific stages would we still be arguing about what is Smash and what isn’t?
@Shoultz: I think you know what I mean by the MvC2 clock. And CvS2, Tekken, VS, JJBA are all held to different standards. Right. So people have a problem with letting Melee do it’s own thing? Is there realization that a game can do things differently and still be a part of the same genre or caliber?
No more discussion for me either lol. It’s 2:16 on the EC and I can still have a good time. So peace
Also, I just thought of something. SF2 Kouryu/Rainbow edition. That’s enjoyed by quite a few people, granted no one takes it seriously, but…that’s a game that changes SF2’s mechanics to a highly hilarious standard. Why is that ‘okay’ and “competitive” rules in Smash are not?
I know I’m technically “on your side” but that’s not really comparable I think. Parrying is an intended system mechanic of SF3 and with the exception of the console version I don’t think you can disable parrying. Even then, it’s a basic part of the game that everyone else plays with. IMO system changes aren’t okay, but I don’t consider items in Smash to be part of the system so I’m fine with taking them out
Honestly I never really got a good answer from smash players on why (the ones that don’t) don’t play fighting games. Other than they just like Smash better.
Which I guess is their right to opinion. Though I gotta say, it’s nice to know here the creators care a bit more about us than Sakurai.
But that kinda merges with my point. Smash’s system is to play anyway you want. So youbarent interfering with no items/limited stages. I think everyone is exxaggerating the banned stages. I mean the majority of the stages are still played. Even more in Doubles
Damn, the one thing amusing me besides going through SSFIV trial mode with all characters as far as I can get on pad with my new PS3 copy, haha. Really wish my code for PSN yen would come through already so I can order Chaos Breaker. Welp, I’ll prolly argue more tomorrow too, y’all have a good night
Honestly, I don’t think melee nor brawl were ever meant to be highly competitive games. I wouldn’t trust a word any developer says otherwise haha.
Modifying the game to make it as competitive as a player wants… Well you could say it’s stupid, dumb, breaking the game, ect… But honestly you need to look why people do it. It’s because it’s the closest thing people have to a fighting game full of Nintendo characters. People just like the characters. And to play a game full of them on a competitive level… Well then I can understand wanting to modify the game as much as possible to meet that goal… It’s not like we’ll see a new ‘Super’ edition of the game anytime soon, you know what I mean?
It’s easy to see why Sakurai does what he does. Why would Nintendo want to try and beat Capcom/Arc System Works/Namco at getting hardcore players when those companies have such a huge head start? It makes much more sense to create a game geared for casuals. SSBM was a start, but SSBB is just a signal from Nintendo that the number of casual gamers that are put off by having to “deal with” hardcore gamers is greater than the number of hardcore gamers willing to drop SSF4/BB/Tekken to play SSB.
TBH what I hated the most about smash players was not that they enjoy smash or think that’s a good game,(maybe it IS an ok game. Don’t know, don’t care) but that they were soooooo close minded to give other games a chance and perhaps play them too and not JUST smash.
Same deal now with SF4 players.
the reason’s i’ve heard that smash players don’t play other fighters: too stiff/not enough movement in 2d/3d fighters, 2d/3d fighters aren’t technical enough, smash fundamentals don’t carry over into other fighters, there isn’t any fighters on the wii/gc (even though ggac and tvc are on the wii), and there are too many revisions for current fighters & too many fighters coming out.
i used to play smash but i don’t have fun with it competitively anymore. now i’m gonna go back into lurk mode
More than 50%, duh…
(I don’t know why you are taking this personally since it’s clear that we are not talking about YOU, since you are one of the few who do play other games)
