So let's talk about why capcom's empire of fighters crumbled

…because UDON’s probably trying to revive the series as we speak by getting their best ladies to screw with the president of Capcom in order to bring great justice…or Capcom is trying really hard to make the best comeback possible.

Alot of gaps inbetween and some rehashes on SF’s behalf. Remember how long it took Capcom to get the sequel out? These are the guys who started fighting games. They have a right to duck out and return whenever they want. People still play Alpha 3 and all the other SFs.

I say we should be patient until…wait a sec. It’s twenty years already, is it not? SF 1 did come out in 86, correct? 2006…Capcom, you gots some ‘plainin’ to do!

Maybe SF 4 will be the best fighter we’ll ever lay eyes upon 2D wise. Who knows.?..but still, other companies are coming out of the woodwork and breaking the mold and they should not be ignored.

truth. SNK has done some growing, even after the bankupcy. Tenka has received praise from the ranks of the SRK. Probably the future is now.

You missed the point completely.
m121akuma pointed it out, tho.

No thats me knowing what I am talking about. THEY DO PLAY LIKE TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAMES. And no I am not talking like a hardcore fg fan, I am talking like someone who knows wtf they are talking about.

Your DOA 4 just proves to disprove your point as well, most of the DOA games play almost exactly like each other.

The point IS is that you can play 3s and istantly realize it’s part of the Street fighter franchise. Without seeing any old characters or the name of the game. Just like you can with DOA4.

And if you can’t, you’ve either never played other games in the franchise, or you’re fucking retarded. Either one.

As if the slow drop of SF popularity wasn’t proof enough: Subtle changes is not enough to keep a series up to date for 15 (20?) years.

No that wasnt your point, your point was all the SFs played the same and there was no difference. Way to self own yourself there guy. Now that everyone fully knows you dont know what your talking about, you will be just another random scrub. Those games are about as much alike as CvS2 is to Marvel.

No. I never said that. I said there were no HUGE differences. And I still say there isn’t. I even implyed that in my second post in this thread.

Holy shit! There’s a difference I named right rhere!

There are huge differences thats what you dont understand. And this line is classic

How long did we wait for SFIII? And when it finally came out, what was new? A bunch of light Aplpha elements and a parry?

You disqualified yourself right there.

It’s not that I don’t understand, it’s that I disagree.

Moving on…

Actually, I was playing Urien Vs. Makoto today, and someone asked me what game it was. I told them SF, they said and i quote, “no way”.

Please stop posting man. It’s like you have this giant “ignorance” meter, and every post you make just makes it climb higher and higher. I’m not sure what you mean by

Well of course the basics are going to stay the same. That’s what makes it a fighting game. I’m not sure what you want. First person perspective? Maybe to fight you have to input commands to the music like DDR?

Either way…

Shut the fuck up.

No.

The person who asked was fucking retarded then. Simple as that. Or wait…

wasn’t holding the controller?

Your comment about the basics made me laugh.

I mean, let’s not take into account that some fighting games control totally different from others and have different ways of pulling of moves and unique combo rules.

I don’t know about you guys, but every SF I’ve played had alot in common with the last. And according to the majority, that’s the case. I’m sticking with that. The debate is over.

huge differences? parry is a huge difference. as a result of them, people either love 3s, or HATE IT TO DEATH (me) because it completely changed the strategy and tactics that were viable.

one obvious one is that you can no longer count on anti airs to reliably punish a jump in. i think that counts as a huge difference.

I’d count it as a deep and subtle difference. Not a huge one. That’s a change only fans of the series can appreciate (or not).

My point is, that’s not a big enough change to attract newcomers…as you can clearly see. :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t consider it a big difference at all, but whatever.

wtf is a huge change? by your logic, all fps play the same since its just a guy running around shooting people. the various differences such as weapons and game engine and types of deathmatch and coop offered are just “deep and subtle”.

you can say that for rts as well.

Ok, let me break it down to you:

Let’s use Halo: CE and Halo 2 as examples. There are differences between the two games, but not enough for me to call Halo 2 anything but an expansion on more of the same. When I first picked up Halo 2 I instantly realized that all the differences weren’t really that big; if you played thehell out of Halo 1, you’re going to jump right into this game with no trouble. The only thing I really had to get used to in Halo 2 was the dual combos (learn how to use them. Learn how to beat them.). Halo 2 di not reinvent Halo, it expanded on it.

This is pretty much how I felt about every new entry to the SF series. 3s lacked an absoulute gaurd and added in the Parry (making offensive options less reliable) and EX moves. It pretty much made SF more of a defense based figting game…but it’s still Street Fighter. Most of what I liked and disliked about the past games is still there. And street fighter is old as fuck. Changes like that just weren’t enough to keep people interested for all that time.

You can add something new to a the same car every year. Give it a new coat of paint, a new sound system, some doves…but if you don’t tune it up it’s eventually going to break down on your ass.

There is a reason why most games don’t get the attention that Marvel, 3S, Alpha 3, CvS2, and Super Turbo do.

Because they aren’t as good. The creme of the crop has risen and taken its place as the games that warrant our close attention, as decided by the community as a whole.

I don’t think gamers should be willing to satisfy for playing the leftovers.

Also I ask again (not to you man but to general thread)

How many times does Capcom expect us to buy Street Fighter II?

 What were you expecting from this thread?

^ the man brings more good points to the table. Alot of the times, capcom just seems to not try, and i don’t just mean this for thier fighting games. For example…capcom fighting evolution, a game in which I refuse to beleive had effort put into it’s creation.

Wow, just by reading this thread, I realized how Kof fans are lucky. SNK/Playmore is patient on releasing kof for them. Although fighting games is keeping the company alive I still envy them.

SNK’s releases have were mostly tweaks to the same old Neo Geo games over and over again, a lot of which were not well recieved. There’s a reason that SNK went bankrupt. The whole idea of adopting new technology and doing new games didn’t happen until after the company went under.

Wow you ARE a moron.

“Sf3:3s: 1. Ken (SA1 & SA3) 2. Ryu (all) 3. Yang (SA1) Akuma (all)”

and you are a fucking scrub too.
