So...is everyone confortable with the way America is headed?

This. After seeing how good my friends in Finland and Sweden have it, I don’t really care too much about things becoming a little more socialized.

No, I don’t really see a positive outcome here. Even if one is in favor of such a huge expense and overhaul…is now even really the best time? The country isn’t really in the greatest financial/economic situation right now. It’s like if you and your wife work and have a combined household income of let’s say…$100,000.00. You make the 75 and she only gets 25,000 a year. You just lost your job so the household income is drastically reduced to her puny ass 25,000…and you guys decide it’s NOW time to put the kids in private school and a new summer program every year, along with adding a new section to the house when you’re already in debt for that, the 2 cars and your student loans.

I get a feeling all or most of the things that occur throughout his presidency will also increase racial tensions, actually. I’m pretty sure the average white man probably assumes every black person out there voted for Obama. (*Hopefully I would be incorrect on this…but I’ve repeatedly encountered and have seen examples of it for myself, though I realize personal experience and observation doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true everywhere. Heh, how 'bout I was in a bar one day and noticed a white dude with his back to me actually point back to me saying "and you know THEY ALL voted for this guy…", referring specifically to Obama) The funny thing is, he’s dangerously close to being correct in that assumption. Wasn’t his approval rating from black people in particular well over 80% recently? I remember hearing that some months ago like around Fall '09 or back in the summer, so it may have been even higher than that when he was “fresh” in the white house. Of course, the now predictable liberal response to any of this I posted will be a personal attack and generally condescending tone.

I thought everyone would be happy since it is clear that we are getting that much closer to Japan every day.

Attitudes like this makes me feel like America is heading the wrong direction. The people don’t trust the government, and does nothing about changing it. Where are the activists for “change”? If the America people were more knowledgeable about what’s going on Capital Hill, we wouldn’t have such a shitty government in the first place.

bu buh but it’s socialism!!!

For people saying the economy is shit right now and in too dire of a situation for hcr
And you know, it might actually turn out pretty good for the insurance companies anyway

And anybody thinking it’s a slippery slope should probably advocate getting rid of Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, and whatever else out there that qualifies under the ever-demonized term known as socialism.

Someone with no interest in things like this shouldn’t be giving their opinions for law changing important “stuff” anyway. I never spent any extra time reading about law or reading the papers about decisions made by the government. I would rather leave it up to you people who study this shit and know what your talking about. I mean, you aren’t going to have a blacksmith do a carpenters job right? I have my own way of helping the community.

That said, I’m not dumb enough that I will mindlessly support something that I don’t believe in.

Don’t really have to…since its unsustainable. People continue to live longer, while there aren’t as many people paying into the system. While congress uses money that is suppose to be uses for medicare in order to fund their little side pork projects. All these factors plus rising medical costs are a disaster waiting to happen.

Now, I’m not arguing against medicare, but its hard to ignore how the government fucks everything up.

lots of politicians are funded (bribed) by private interests like insurance companies to pass legislation in the favor of the companies. many republicans (and some democrats) would lose out on tons of cash if healthcare were gov’t controlled, so they’ll pull every ridiculous card in their deck to keep going to the doc as expensive as possible.

shit is disgusting playing with people’s health vs their finances. i heard somewhere the chinese system is that you pay your doctor every month you are well, and when you get sick, you don’t pay them, because they are failing in their job of KEEPING YOU HEALTHY.

i personally hate doctors, last two times i’ve gone, one, they prescribed me a antibiotic that had a “90% chance of working” so i went to the pharmacy, turns out the whole script is $400 for a month’s worth. i go back the next day (another $60 to see the fuck) and he writes me a script for $12 for a month that has an "80% chance of working. thanks a lot asshole.

second doc, i go in to get a cyst drained (i’ve popped this thing many times over the years myself, but i thought i’d get it done by a professional), he wants to check for cancerous moles. finds a dark one, offers to cut it off. i say sure why not. he sends it off to get a biopsy. then says "the mole was okay, but it was HIGHLY ATYPICAL, you need to come back so i can cut an extra 1mm of skin around that area off. i’m like BITCH WHY DIDN’T YOU DO THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE? "huhuh, because two visits are more profitable than one  "

oh also charged $390 to cut a cyst open, and the shit grows back, just like every time i’ve drained it myself. $390 to pop a zit. go fuck yourself. we need healthcare reform, these MFs are corrupt as hell.

capitalism is wonderful in that it’s capable of producing mass wealth, but it’s a beast.
if you don’t police it properly the middle class gets swallowed alive by exploitive shit like privatized healthcare and greedy fucks bundling shitty loans together.
this is a fact. this is what’s happening.

the left doesn’t want rich people playing money games with your life, and the right just wants to BE rich people.
tea baggers are the political equivalent of depressed people who refuse to go on meds because they think it’s “weak”. that’s all this sky-is-falling OMG SOCIALISM bullshit is.

@lane
Definitely. I was just saying that in response to anyone yelling “communism” at just the idea of giving people healthcare. I am all too aware of how government can fuck a good thing up.

Honestly, I think what’s wrong with this country is the fact that Republicans are trying their best to hold on to the crazies. Dems had a chance to do the same in the early 00’s (ps “00’s” is weird to write) with the anti-war movement, and some did court them, but the Republican party is holding on with dear life to the Tea Partiers and the rest of the crazies. If they let go of their idea that they need them to win, which is sort of true right now, they’d become a party of greater integrity and would pick up a lot more independents.

I do identify myself as a dem and a liberal, but I would never blindly side myself with them on every issue. The problem is is that the other side of the isle has no problem with lying to hold on to the crazy people, as well as the fact that they do nothing to try and correct the lies that these fringe groups perpetuate and thrive on.

lol i’m probably more to the left than most of SRK, but idk what i have to do with this thread at all.

What I find amusing about these well-funded, conservative “grass” movements is how they emphasize that it is your right to question the government (which I agree with), but back when Bush was President, many of these people would have probably called someone unpatriotic or not supportive of our troops if someone questioned the government.

True shit. When we were contracting PMC’s, Haliburton stealing money and creating ridiculous contracts. Nobody batted an eye.

As an independent it’s also funny for me to watch liberals do the exact same thing by ignoring everything obama does and only focusing on what a past president had done.

The difference is that most liberals aren’t branding conservatives as unpatriotic or un-American when they complain. And really, after two terms of a Republican President, I don’t really see the humor in Democrats waiting to see what their President (whom they elected) will do.

I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a knowledgeable liberal who wasn’t angry about Obama doing nothing about the Patriot Act or letting Bush Tax Cuts expire instead of getting rid of them, although I agree no one is really voicing that opposition, but when we are in a time like now where it’s so easy for one party to lose to another I’m not surprised to see everyone shut up and play politics.

Did you not see the gay demographic come out and rail Obama for not doing anything about gay rights? I don’t recall seeing the Tea Party movement coming out of the woodwork when Bush was spending trillions of dollars and increasing the deficit.

imo.

What the fuck planet are you from? The left is just as guilty of this shit as the right. Look at the majority of replies to Rhio’s post. People are completely avoiding the point in favor of insults, I see this stupid shit on both sides. No one wants to argue the points, it’s just “You are a stupid tea bagging redneck conservative” vs “You’re a commy liberal hippy”. That is all these stupid threads turn into because both sides are too dumb to make a point. You guys would rather insult or bring up shit that doesn’t even have to do with the argument (ie Teabaggers, Communism) than actually have a well thought out argument.

Actually I heard plenty of conservatives talking exactly about that. A lot conservatives hated bush. To lump people that disagree with you all into one group is not only ignorant but counterproductive to the discussion. BOTH sides do this shit.
