So...is everyone confortable with the way America is headed?

I think you guys should be worried about the prison camps and mass graves your government is building…

Totally reputable site you got there. Doesn’t stretch facts to suit their tone or anything.

only way a democracy can work well and capitalism not fuck too many people over is when some of the businesses are state run. like insurance and public transportation should be run by the government (same for energy, water and gas), best deals for the cheapest so nobody of the general public doesnt have acces to the most needed things in life. and people say communism is bad, democracy is probably just as bad if it aint worse. the ideal country would probably be in the middle of demo and commu.

theres actually countries where people have free water and energy cause the country makes big profits from those businesses and their state run. just saying, to share a lil is not something bad.

One thing that I find really funny about the conservative vs. liberal argument, is the notion that social programs are invented to reward the poor and punish the rich. In addition to that, the notion that those who are rich all “worked hard for it, and deserve their wealth” or that those who are poor “are lazy bums, and anyone can get ahead in society, this is AMERICA dammit!”. Both arguments could not be more incorrect. Generally speaking, “all or nothing” arguments are almost always historically WRONG. Progress takes compromise.

jesus read a book or something

This. So much this.

You got it. I love it when people say “Go out and make something of yourself” and I retort “Where?” and they can’t say anything. There’s no jobs unless you specialize in something and lets face it, not everyone is cut out for college or trade school. And yet, there are college grads out of jobs who have been trying to make something of themselves but… where when there’s no jobs to be had? On the other hand, yeah SOME of those people worked hard to be where they’re at, but everyone’s definition of hard work varies greatly. On top of that, many people who are rich today are rich because of inheritance and came into a “machine” already pretty much running itself thanks to their parents or their parents’ parents. That’s not hard work.

Hard work to me is doing something that either involves strenuous activity, more knowledge than estimation, or a combination of both. Majoring in business then screwing companies out of themselves is not hard work and yet that’s the most profitable American business there is. Ever heard of an actuary? They’re the guys who crunch a few numbers then tell you how much your life and property are worth and what YOU will pay to keep it or to get it. It’s supposedly the best job there is to have right now. And all it is, is giving someone a $ value to their life. Not hard at all, just plug numbers into an equation and guess high or low, then send the bills out.

I’m going to assume that dn3000 is joking, because nobody is that retarded.

Just as a note, people in these sorts of discussions have a way of painting a picture of the character of people with opposing views. I don’t know if you were speaking generally, but you should be careful that you don’t use that kind of thinking to dismiss other peoples’ views outright. There are non-conservatives who do not agree with, say the healthcare bill (hint: only 178 Republicans, but 212 people voted against it). And I would think it would go without saying that just because someone is “conservative,” to whatever degree that term is even at all useful, is not necessarily biased, and certainly not necessarily irrational.

This type of thinking keeps you from hearing what the person is actually saying.

I’m black and I didn’t vote for Obama because he just didn’t have any substance. He made all these grand promises and never really explained in detail how he was going to make them a reality. He just came off as a typical politician spewing whatever people wanted to hear.

But, yeah, as Million pointed out a few pages ago, people just ASSUMED I voted for him because I’m black.
Lately I’ve been too busy trying to live in this fucked up economy to keep up on recent events. Something tells me I’m not going to like what I will see.

Im just interested in seeing this system collapse because our system is corrupt from its very roots
just the fact that our constitution that talks about freedom was written by slave owners makes no sense at all

if obama cant who can? mccain? palin? lol, i think bush for the 3rd time would have been gold, too bad its not possible. maybe we would have gotten another 911 with planes flying through the hollyowood sign. its them persian, lets invade.

in all honesty, who here believes that the gevernment had nothing to do with 911? can i meet these retards?

http://pakalert.wordpress.com/how-911-was-done/ - not america

Man remember when 911 stood for the guys who are supposed to help you if you’re gettin robbed or threatened or stabbed? Oh wait that’s only if you live in a place where everyone makes 100K+ a year.

you mean william shatners place?

Im not sure I 100% agree with you, but I do feel there are certain things that should NOT be profitable (or at least massively profitable). Education (I have a problem with people being forced to have to pay ridiculous amounts for college/uni, or just not even go and thus be doomed for life), health, public services. I shouldn’t have to pay the cops every time i call them, i pay taxes year round for that. Same should go for health and education and many other aspects of life.

Same here… I voted for the black woman from the green party.

It was obvious to me that whatever Obama promised, he was going to deliver more of the same… government that more or less caters to corporate interests.

Me too, but I worry if that’s just because I realize my lot in life is pretty shitty so I want to see things turn shitty for everyone else too. I think it’s kinda selfish but… I still root for systemic collapse.

so then how is it relevant to the issue being discussed, healthcare, which isn’t a constitutional amendment? our current system for handling constitutional amendments is quite fine imo.

you can believe in that athenian ideal all you want, i believe in the real world where the average person has no idea how the economics of most things work and therefore shouldn’t be making decisions regarding them. populism is reactionary, dangerous and usually not well informed, yet you want it to be the guiding force?..yeah ok.

go back to your list of fallacies and look for one that actually fits.

no one is saying it’s perfect, it’s definitely better than your “solution” where people vote on things they have no clue about.

i understand it perfectly and it’s dumb, kinda like you’re argument in general.

not really sure what “they” you’re referring to, but if you’re against having the most informed and knowledgeable people having more of a direct effect than the ignorant than that’s on you. also large scale direct democracy has never worked anywhere, ever so why do you think it would here?

glenn beck on tv a few days ranted against democracy. i guess republicans hate democracy + america now that it is not going the way they like? maybe they should move to somalia and experience free market paradise

I’m not about trying to create some political dichotomy, in fact, I’m vehemently against it. The sensationalism and character attacks on both sides are what I’m speaking out against. Do I agree with the bill? Not in its current form, and it’s healthy, and necessary for people to disagree on big decisions, but I just really hate this “winners vs. losers” mentality that is so pervasive in political discussions. HELPING PEOPLE is what is important. Not political victories or losses.

i support obama because i support america and democracy and our troops. if you disagree, i have 5 words for you. love it or leave it
