Did you re-torque the tires after about 24 hours? You’re supposed to do so precisely because something like that could happen.
Now I know in Canada you guys need to probably change tires for seasons, but in general this is a major reason I don’t bother rotating my tires. You want to handle stuff as little as possible because things can go wrong.
I have a really good mechanic but for tires I usually go to these other places because they’re usually cheaper. They hate my guts at those other places though because I never let them add on extra charges and I argue with them, go over their heads to corporate, and watch them like a hawk. I’m thinking maybe I should just pay my actual mechanic for the goddamn tires, or buy them at these discount places and have him put them on.
There is zero reason to rotate your tires. Allegedly it’s because you don’t want tires to wear unevenly, but that doesn’t matter because you can just replace all the tires at once, or take the front tires and stick them in the back and buy 2 new tires at a time. Tires don’t really cost much these days and it’s better to buy AAA grip tires that wear out quicker and just replace them more often than to go really high in durability.
If you have a FWD car and you need to mix up new and old tires, it’s safer to use new tires in the rear, since it’s far easier for regular drivers to correct understeer than oversteer. Just saying.
Damn brah glad you ok dog shit could have went a whole other way.
Ive only been in one accident in my life fucker ran a stop sign and hit me so hard Knocked my tire off and broke my front axel. Worse part I had just paid my car off maybe 3months prior
@ Valaris: The garage’s name is L’atelier at Longueuil
So the garage offered to pay the towing bill (200$) and repair all the damages done to the car (front wing, disk , axle). Lent me a replacement car (pontiac gp). However they say that the reason this shit happened is because there was rust on the wheel itself which made a deep hole so they want me to pay 225$ to get all four wheels replaced and keep the tires, which is bs. I will obviously not pay anything. They say its not their fault since there’s rust, I told them it doesn’t matter because they should have inspected everything before telling me the wheel is safe and if the hole was big the fucking bolts would still be on the disk and not fall off. I’m waiting for the insurance evaluator to come and determine the cause and see what my next step is.
No disagreement from me there. I think for 2WD though it works the way I stated. I don’t remember the reasoning for it, I just know I used to do that for awhile when I drove more than I do now.
that’s crazy. glad you’re ok. I know that feeling all too well.
I spun out on the freeway just about 2 years ago now (I recall going to buy my gfs xmas gift), and when I was facing oncoming traffic, I thought I was dead. Luckily they managed to stop in time and I didn’t slam into anyone. I got to the side of the road and found the whole inside wall of my tire blew out.
The bolts came off. They’re not anywhere to be found. I would figure that if the wheel itself had a problem it would probably break or that the bolts would have stayed with the disk. How can 5 bolts come off like that.
That was untightened lugnuts.
If their argument is that the rust on the discs prevented the nuts from running down completely, then they fitted the wheel without acknowledging the damage to the discs, which is equally as negligent.
Get the car back before they can fuck with it, press charges, they’ll settle before it even makes court.
If they changed your wheels, they’re sitting on gross negligence for not torquing the wheels on correctly, or gross negligence for fitting a wheel to a visibly compromised axle.
If the wheels were on for for even a few days, there’ll be “witness marks” on the lugs, indicating where exactly the wheel was sitting if it wasn’t fitted correctly and, if the wheels were correctly torqued, there’ll be further witnesses on the alleged corrosion that they claim was holding the wheel off the axle.
The fact that they’re willing to pay for something that they claim isn’t their fault speaks volumes.
Seriously fuck these guys, they could have killed you.
