So... competitive Catherine?!

In case anyone missed it, apparently they had a Catherine event at a recent FG tournament:

http://www.twitch.tv/finestko/b/294229448 < final starts at 19:00

It was pretty entertaining to watch! Rather than fighting, it seemed to be a game of hilarious trolling each other

Just some questions though. The commentators were pretty tongue in cheek so it seemed like they were mock-serious about the game. And from just looking at it, it doesnt seem that deep. (well, probably about as deep as competitive tetris, I guess? Which is probably deep enough.)

So is this a once-off joke, or does it actually have a chance of taking off?

After having beat this game, it would not surprise me if people randomly went into competitive Catherine.

I don’t see the fighting game community ever considering this, though. lol

I personally would love to see more of this. It’s entertaining as hell to watch. I think the stream started off just above 1,000 viewers. Catherine came on and it went to a bit over 2,000. After they started playing GG and other games, the viewer count dropped back down by 900, pretty much to where it started. There was so much hype and salt. You really do need to know your fundamentals in this game to win.

Glad this was posted because I didn’t get to see the grand finals when it was live.

Catherine for EVO 2012.

Can the savegame for this be shared? If so, someone needs to share one with Versus mode already unlocked.

If competitive Catherine became a real thing, then I would definitely enter tournaments for it. The game is a lot of fun, and competitively can actually be pretty complex.

Competitive Catherine has my support =)

Yeah the game is pretty deep when you get into harder levels. Not so much with input commands since those are easy. It’s more about figuring out how to climb. The game shows you several strats and patterns in story mode, so lots of techniques to master.

Best game of 2011 IMHO. Stuff like this really makes me wish it had an online versus mode. Seriously Japan get on the online kick already, at least for American releases.

one thing is sure is catherine is balance :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a nice tournament and i hope this will be more popular on the tournament scene.
Kind of sad this mode of Catherine is offline only :frowning: it’s like the only flaw of this awesome game

its funny and intense once someone got the x-factor in play.

I don’t know if we can call this a FG but i fully support this!!

Think this thread is more better suited in the General Discussion section… but I think you guys don’t care anyway.

It was really hype I enjoyed watching it

Catherine for EVO 2012? That shit had me hyped

that was dope. gotta get my grind on for an EVO side event haha

I just ordered catherine online after 15 minutes of watching

Catherine to be at Evo 2012?

ARGH Why the fuck would you beat me to that?

That video was interesting/funny.
It would be nice to see something other than fighters and FPSs get some attention in competitive gaming. Now I want some competitive Mario Bros. Not Super Mario Bros. Mario Bros.

Wouldn’t it be a competitive puzzle game?
Those exist right?

^ Of course…

Seriously look no further than puzzle fighter…

I suck at it, but pros fill your damn screen up quickly…

I got beat by a Dan(someone that can only drop all red counter blocks on your side, making them very easy to delete and dump a whole bunch of counter gems on the other opponents side and winning instantly) within a period of ten seconds…

Shit is fun, but there is like no one to play it with(only played online)…

I like how every comeback mechanic is now called X-Factor…

This game is totally worthy of high level competitive play.
