So, Besides all the Emo surrounding XTek/yawn

Besides all the obvious complaining behind SFxTek.
What are the high level players saying about SFxTek ?
I havent bothered buying xTek yet. I might one day, Im still playing sf4.

half the game being comprised of tekken characters that are basically nothing but 50 50 mix up melee only based, seemed pretty dull to me.
im sure people who want to feel OP are loving it, but it sounds dull to me.

Are people enjoying it in the tourny level? or are tourny players basically unimpressed?

Every time I stop by the srk sfxtek stream (like once a week maybe). its dead empty.
maybe its because I log in late. but I doubt it. i used to see sf4 rooms even at 4am.
the week before sfxTek landed.

well, I’m not a tourney player but here’s my observations so far:

The game is fun for alot of tourney players, but because of no gems in tourneys and the EVO tourney being 2v2 only, it’s in a sort of a purgatory state right now.

People that like it play it.

weekly streams like WNF only do 2v2 tourneys which tend to be pretty hype depending on the team synergy and big names playing. They look like they’re having a blast and the team rivalries make it really entertaining to watch.

European streams and Iplaywinner have started to use gems in their 1v1 tourneys. Its seems to help eliminate most timeouts, and overall make the game more interesting. As long as people know their gem numbers the gem selection doesn’t seem to take long at all and is worth the extra time taken because it results in a more interesting match with added strategy.

I think the game right now looks like it’s dying out, but I think because of the gem situation there’s a kind of confusion in the tourney scene in how to approach the game to make the hype optimal. WNF is sticking with 2v2 no gems, and like I said Norcal and Euro tournies are starting to use gems to see how they add to the game.

Civil War 4 just happened, and with good players and great commentary, it seemed pretty hype. Not MVC3 level hype, but good enough for a game that right now is in a weird state of being. Check out the stream archives on teamspooky’s own3D.tv channel. Again, they weren’t using gems, which to me basically forces the game to be bland by not using one of it’s main features. Not to mention people still are not doing combos that waste more time than do damage. I mean obviously that’s a viable strategy, but it’s also like they tend to make it so the opponent can recover more life, and then if they both basically played even then the last ten seconds end up deciding the match by the two last pokes. Had they done combos that were planned better for the scaling and went for resets/oki setups instead of just doing three tag cancel combos in a row (basically a waste of meter and damage). An easy example is that EVERYONE does l,m,h,launcher even to punish a whiffed SRK or off a jump in. All they had to do was raw launcher which does WAY more damage and allows the first hits of your partners combos to scale well. Kind of getting off topic here, sorry.

as for the Tekken characters being OP for their 50/50 mixups, it became obvious fairly quickly that most of those characters also have tons of opening in their strings. It was a first week complaint out of ignorance, but as people play and learn the strings they aren’t nearly as effective.

I dunno… still early. I’d like to see some real tourney players get in here and express themselves though.

A lot of California pro players seem to enjoy the game. Some of the best players in my scene have good and bad things to say about it, but a few of them do enjoy it.

It needs some tweaks, but a lot of people do like the game so its really just a matter of how it evolves with time. The more updates and improvements it gets the better chance it has and I think Capcom has plans, since apparently Seth/Sven aren’t worried about the game’s future due to “things which will be revealed soon.”

Something to note is that a lot of Marvel players I’ve been meeting actually have tons of bad things to say about Marvel – not calling it a bad game, just saying that no game is perfect and people will come to SFxT once it starts to build some energy up.

I say it just needs some time.

…where did that statement come from?

One of the last interviews where someone asked Sven (or Seth, I can’t remember) if they were worried.

Playing this game a bit like SF does work IMO, its just that a small mistake or wrong guess at close range will lead into a 50% damage combo many many times. I have to say, my style is very reactive and I really enjoy finding ways to intercept/defend all of the different angles and attacks. Nothing beats the moment when you block the double-slashing Raven crossup tag thingamajig and fight it all off like Neo vs Agent Smith. Haha, I have a hard time expressing it but what I’m trying to say is so far I’ve been highly entertained by SFxT’s mechanics and matchups.

The #1 problem I have with the game is that I most enjoy playing 1v1 WITH gems, and there’s a good amount of people insisting to play without gems or only providing 2v2.

Everything else I’m fine with at the moment. Difficult-to-land-throws are fine because teching is very risky (and remember this is coming from a Vega SF4 player - kara throws were GOD to me). I don’t give half a shit about assist gems because I’m relatively good at blocking and I don’t rely on high/low target combo mixups. Vs me an assist gem is a one-way ticket to not scoring enough damage on me and having your meter drained by a few shorts.

The different difficulties available to try and optimize your combos are hella fun too.
Like cammy can juggle st.MP far.HP x HK.CSpike, but if you want to get fancy (more damage but also difficulty) you can perfectly time j.HK st.MP st.HP or even do cl.HK into a jumpcancel and JUGGLE with her HK.CStrike.

Pandora, alpha counters, meter management, combo optimization, a TON of chars, team synergy, all of the crazy mixups, frame crushing, tense moments where one char is full and the other is empty… I didn’t drop SF4, I just ended up having so much fun in SFxT that I can’t stop playing!

Oh, and I can’t wait to see some of the under-used characters get some passionate players behind them to find new tactics. Those Ryus and Kens will have a hard time fighting ALL of the character specialists against those rarely-seen shenanigans and secrets!

It’s an ok game that could have been a great one.

But it’s nothing to be ashamed about. We’ll look back and say “goddamn this game was goofy as fuck but fun.”

except the DLC, fuck that.

Personally I think it’s one of the better games to come out in the last few years. Fighting Game wise anyway.

yeah I think its pretty fun to play but to watch? It isnt the best game to watch but its too early to kinda cast judgement on this game since capcom seems like they are trying to fix the game but I know alot of people who hate the game dont even know why they just follow what other people say

This is me right now, lol. It’s just a very fun game despite its flaws. I “dropped” SF4 and would like to play some other games, but the more I play/see of SFxT, the more committed I get and the more I want to play it.

I can agree with the mixed review on the game mechanics, but I completely disagree with anyone saying this game is not fun to watch. It’s basically a more entertaining Street Fighter (viewing wise) due to a faster pace and the double the amount of characters per round. The whole experience creates much more diversity. Ryu vs X is a lot more bearable to watch when it’s Ryu and X vs Ryu and X hahaha

P.S. UMvsC3 has to be the most garbage thing to watch ever. So boring watching a touch of death combo for 15 seconds over and over and over and…

I sorta agree with this. It’s not the long combos I mind so much about watching it, it’s that they put in the XFactor system, which is a near cure all comeback mechanic or complete domination mechanic. It was fun at first but now, eh I much rather prefer comebacks from like actual reading other players or Ultras. At least if the ultra whiffs in SFIV, you’re majorly open for punishment.

I Enjoy the game, but I’m slowly backing off. I thought Gems were great when the game was first released. it adds an element of strategy, even if a small one. Set up your Gems to activate in certain situations = more damage, meter to waste etc blahr blahr blahr.

The newest release of gems (not paid) kinda had me like…whaaaaat. Ive been working on the CHEAPEST assist gem setup. not to play seriously, just to try and see how much of a crutch they are, and with the newest, they are rediculous. the render the older gems useless, and provide the ultimate runaway turtle style gameplay which can be seen here

Theeeeeen capcom had the nerve to release a PAY TO WIN pack of assist gems. here, if you pay, you have EVEN BETTER assist gems. Pay to win in a fighting game? Really? thats crazy.

I havent been to any tournies for this besides at pax (default gems), but i know most ban gems, which, takes a lot away from the game IMO. Especially with pandora Extend (900+ damage punishes lol). I’ve been on my way back to SSF4, and plan on starting KOF13. Both games just seem tighter, and less gimmicky.

How is the Pandora extend gem the worst? Or am I reading the post wrong?

I supppose i could worded that better. I meant to say that pandora extend is awesome imo.

Pandora Extend is pretty fucking cool.

Also, Someone’s gonna come troll this thread soon, there’s too much ‘Happy’ going on here.

Of coarse their generic answer is “Were not worried” Even the producers of the worst games on earth fall back on that.

I am glad that I decided to not purchase this product, in protest of the Pay Gems.
Not only did they go with the pay gems route, they went with Pay for top tier gems.

I dont buy a game on day one, to have bull shi@ like colors and characters locked, so they can charge me later.

I rented the game. I still play and enjoy SF4 entirely too much to think about getting distracted and pulled away with this gimmic cash rape.
I would be pretty upset if I had paid full price.

Ill buy it used once its 30 bucks.
not a day before.

The wait time between ranked matches is horrible. its not even the 10-20 seconds at character select waiting on gems selection. its the other 3 minutes you have to wait with all the extra clutter and the slow @#$ ranked match finder system

eh.
to be honest, seing a backup run 200 miles per hour into position at the boring standard combo enters here and there isnt entertaining. its just a gimmic.

I would rather have focus attacks back. although the meter burn to escape a wiff (Available to more than just shotos and friends with good backdash) is interesting.

Haha yeah I agree with you partly. This game definitely does have gimmicks, I guess it’s just personal taste. Just like I’ll never play skull girls because the art style looks like it was made by my little pony.

Nothing against that game though, I’m sure it’s solid
