I don’t even detune my boards. You can still hang up even if your edges are detuned. If you do detune your edges just take 1 or 2 degrees off on your effective edge and on the top of your nose and tail you can take a lot more off.
Just make sure when you’re jibbing to always stay flat and if you start to come off the rail/box or whatever, just slide off don’t try to correct it or rebalance yourself it’ll usually result in you slamming.
yeah i don’t think i’m going to go that small… man i really want a shorter board that is sick but i don’t want to spend so much. which might as well be an oxymoron
try going to ski swaps and going to shops to see if they have any last season boards, usually if they still have some left, they normally throw a good discount.

from a craigslist ad… think i should go for it? i don’t want to pay 100$ though i think i’m going to try to haggle him down

dude i have wanted a travis rice lib tech board forever. what are your guys’ thoughts on magne traction? i’ve heard of it but i don’t know too much about it
I have never ridden a Mag board, but I know some folks who have and they love it. They say even with detuned edges, since there are more contact points with the snow it grips it really well.
O-matic doesn’t have anything that really makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd, although I’ve never really heard bad things about them. I’d say to hit up the guy with the Lib Tech board.
Of course, when you go check out the board, make sure there aren’t any base gouges in it… repaired or not. I wouldn’t trust it - they could have had it repaired too late and water might have seeped into the base.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that; Lamar is price-point garbage that’s just made for people who don’t know any better to buy at Big 5… at least O-matic has real snowboarders behind it (Todd Richards started the company). I just haven’t heard anyone say any super positive things about them (but no one has said any negative things about them, either).
I’ll look into it some time during the down season with some discounts.
How much of a forward lean do you guys put on your bindings. I never really paid any attention to this stuff before, but I tried it and it feels much better. I get some better response out of my bindings and my legs/knees feel a bit more natural/relaxed.
from my experience, put your bindings as wide as you can, and have your back and front foot set up like this:
\ … /
have your back foot a tiiiny bit inwards however, but not too inwards. this is what i have always found most comfortable, and it seems very sensible to have a wide stance to squat out tough landings or to just spread your weight better through your knees.
Anyone been up yet? Just had day 8 of riding so far this season… gonna ride again tomorrow and Sunday. Brought a PS3 and SF4 and been playing that during downtime in the hotel.
Tahoe is getting an insane amount of snow this weekend. Woot powder days in mid-December.
Forgot about this thread…I went boarding to Mt High again on Wednesday night right after work. Fresh powder and no crowds is the best, even though i generally dont like Mt high it was still pretty good. Hopefully I can go again this Sunday/Monday, but its not looking good at this point. I need to move up north closer to tahoe and mammoth dammit
I board but my ass is small time, im just barely past the learning stages.
not like it matters, i think everyone on the hill benefits from seeing a 6 foot white guy with an afro and vivid red 70’s snow pants go flying through the air face first.
not to mention its winter in Michigan so i think its against state law if i don’t go at least once, my friend invited me to some sort of special around MLK day, can’t exactly remember where tho
sierrasnowboard.com usually has some good deals on last years models. But at this point they are running low on stock. Most of sites are only selling 2010 models at around retail price.
As for snowboarding, I fucking hate it. Far too many times have I nearly crippled myself on those slopes of death. Also, its fucking cold. I’m Canadian, I live with this shit weather all the time. Why in the fuck would I take a vacation to somewhere colder? Am I the only one in this socialist hellhole that prays for global warming?
