Oh snap, I was gonna wait until later to start a snowboarding thread since I searched and couldn’t find one, but one already exists! Man it’s dope that Abasin is opening… I remember back in September when I saw that Loveland was gonna start blowing snow, shit got me so hype for this winter.
Boreal in the Tahoe area is opening this weekend. It’ll be straight up white ribbon shit, but whatever. I just need to ride and get some board-on-metal action… entering first comp of the season in November so my rusty ass needs practice.
Just got a 09/10 Nitro Subzero… it’s seriously been sitting in my apartment just taunting me. First time riding one of those fancy reverse/gullwing/whatever camber boards.
So this winter:
09/10 Nitro Subzero 152 for the rails
08/09 Nitro T1 156 for cruising around the mountain
07/08 Nitro Team 159 for the pow
08/09 Union Force for the Subzero/T1
07/08 Union Data for the Team
Tried it for the 1st time in March. I was in so much pain for a week after, from all the falling and rolling down hills and shit.
I can’t turn, slow down, or stop. The instructor wasn’t helpful at all. So I had to force myself to fall down and risk injury to stop, or else I’d go out of bounds and fall into the woods or down a steep slope that leads to pavement, etc.
instructors suck. I had a bad first time with an instructor - I thought I’d never try again.
my friends convinced me to go, and they taught me instead. worked out so much better. I can’t wait until season starts up here. still kinda iffy on buying a season’s pass right now.
I wish I knew what to do to go snowboarding. I’m in Chicago we don’t have that type of shit around here that I know of. I’d love to go though I’ve been thinking about snowboarding all summer because it was something I wanted to try that was new and would push my body to the limit, any suggestions on where to go? Or am I gonna have to fly somewhere just to go snowboarding lol.
Best way to learn is to get a feel for the mountain and what it’s like being strapped into the board. If you gotta go down sideways - that is, with your board perpendicular to the slope of the mountain, bending your knees and leaning back a little so you’re on your heel edge - it’s the best way to do that when you’re first starting.
My uncle drag me up to the mountain when I was 8. He got me to go up a lift. It wasn’t even the beginner one Then he just turns and smile at me. Next thing I know I was ditched! Imagine a 8 year old rolling down the mountain and that was me. Keep getting back up and it will become 2nd nature.
So… anyone get to ride yet? I know a bunch of places in Washington and Colorado have opened already.
The mountain where me and my buddies have season passes opens this weekend. Rode a couple days at this other hill, but it just wasn’t the same as riding at “home.” Can’t wait.
I went to crystal mountain, washington last weekend. some powder, some icy spots, LOTS of goddamn rocks that scratched up my board. not all the lifts were operational, but that mean the lift ticket was cheaper, so it was fine by me.
by this friday, the main boarding destinations (as far as I know) in washington will all be open, I’ll probably go to stevens pass this or next weekend.
OOOOH FUCK. The only reason I wish I was back at school in CO.
I want to get a T1 this season. Throw another set of cartels on it and maybe cop some DC boots. I’ve wanted to try em out. Right now I’m rolling on an 08 Retro Twin with cartels. Anon and Oakley vision. Forgot what brand my clothing is haha.
If you get a T1… fuck yes. The T1 is the most fun board I’ve EVER ridden… super poppy, and kills it on almost everything. Easy enough to press, locks on pretty well on rails, can hit bigger jumps without folding on landings. And of course great for just cruising around the mountain. All the good shit. Not that hot for riding through powder, but that’s to be expected. Gonna buy another one to replace my older model once they go on sale in February or so… they got that zero camber madness going on now or some shit like that.
well, the twin is nice in pow so I won’t have a problem. Just set the bindings back a bit and rip. It has solid flex for rails too. I just want a more well rounded board. The twin can’t handle bangers that well. I got friends who kneel at the altar of the SDS, but them boards are too expensive and I’ve never seen one last more than two seasons of real riding. Never heard ill of Nitro though. Those boys got it on lock.
Hell yeah… that’s what I love about Nitro boards. Bombproof. I got hooked up with a cheap Misfit back in the day and never wanted to ride any other boards since then.
One of my boys loves his Anthem or Flag or whatever that is, though… ehh not for me.
Thinking about trying Nike or Celsius boots this season though… so if anyone has an opinion, I would love to hear it.
I snowboard. I’m still a novice at it, I’ve probably been like 6-7 times total in my life and just the very last time I went out last season was probably the first time I went an entire day without falling… And I probably did fall, I’m just not remembering it…
Shit is hella fun though. I’ll still be riding my 50$ craigslist board that I bought 3 years ago Last year someone recognized it as being at least 10-15 years old or more… Still works good enough for me, LOL but it’s fucking heavy.
