SNK registers "KOF" trademark

That wouldn’t save KoF, that would kill it. It would immediately make it a non-tournament game, which is the people who keep the game alive.

You gotta understand. Magegg, really REALLY likes XDZW.

I know he does. I did too, until it went to shit.

Trademarks, identities and characters, to be properly executed, need to be the main thing for a company. Look at SF, do you seriously think Nether Realm Studios would produce a proper SF5? when you have a gold mine you put effort into it to make it look stellar.

Capcom would do KOF just like the characters looked in CVS. What a bad taste you north americans have to dare to say “Capcom buy KOF”. Disgusting.

“Tencent could save KOF. Just do the same they do with XDZW, turn into a free, online video game and add 1 or 2 new characters per month. Could be really awesome.”

Why not do both? retail and free online? you know, it has public for both things.

Oh wait. They are already trying to do that with Tencent in China. Who knows, they might try it on this side. But purely online? they aren’t China’s biggest telecom to pull that off. No sense of business or respect to the company’s corporative identity. New SNK fans… internetz followers.

KOF as a PC online free to play could still have, like every two years or so, some console/arcade port release too, so Tencent would keep their QQ market alive while at the same time making money on consoles, since consoles are now legal in China.

I know that has not been Tencent’s style in the past, but if they had the SNK properties under their wing, they could be ready to go international.

What happened?

The over nerfing of every option, making all the characters feel the same, RPG levelling that applied to ranked games, forcing you to grind to unlock supers, the continuous patching of the netcode that makes it impossible to play a quality match outside of China (even the Chinese say the netcode “fixes” suck), all the new characters they’ve been adding are braindead scrub pick mashing characters who have chains where you literally mash one button and it’s safe on block and works as an anti air, just general boring safe scrub hand holding design. This is also compacted with the problems the game already had like shit throws and huge input delay.

To me the only problem is the netcode. The rest is fine.

The fuck!?!

You only unlock 1 super per character, that’s the Hidden Super (equivalent to the Neo Max from KOF XIII).

Capcom can’t even take care of their own Darkstalkers brand properly, and even the latest iteration of SF4 is built mostly on recycled assets. Their more likely to put their focus on the likes of Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, which seem to make them a lot more money nowadays.

Regarding the Last Blade/Art of Fighting/Fatal Fury timeline, this is a nice read: http://meh.brpxqzme.net/timeline.html

Why do you care about Tencent’s economy. Also why do you think Verizon would do a better job at producing Street Fighter than Capcom?

They’re not like Neo Max in basically any regard. They’re just SDM’s/EX supers. Some of them are also really useful to the character and it’s bullshit you gotta unlock them.

Doesn’t matter. The point is that you still have to unlock it.

That’s a bit no-no in any competitive game, even outside of fighting games. Look at the MOBAs like LOL or DOTA, there’s nothing you unlock by grinding. Even the “levels” in those games are limited only within the match itself. In other words, you can simply sit down for a match and everything you need will be available to you within that match.

Kappa

It’s like the Neo Max. In fact, in Terry and Benimaru’s case, IT IS the NEO MAX.

I find fun having to play until you unlock it. The only problem is, alas, the netcode is not viable for Westerners.

The ANIMATIONS are Neo Maxes. Not mechanically, not meter wise, not cancel wise, not by any other value besides how they visually look are they anything like a Neo Max. They just simply are not a Neo Max.

Well good for you. I don’t think it’s fun at all. In fact it was a major pain in my ass when they did that because I play Ray. EXDM was a really important tool for him and when that update came out I LOST that tool for no reason. I still don’t think I have it because I lost all excitement for that game when it started demanding I level up my characters to get stat boosts and to unlock my EXDM. They basically said play this shit version of your character until you earn the right to play the real version. That isn’t fun. Not in a fighting game.

They’re big damage (even bigger than EXDMs), just like Neo Max or Leader Moves in KOF XIII and XI. So, that’s it; their “max super”, their ultra or whatever you want to call them.

Yeah, Ray is one of the little example in which the character is really boosted by his Hidden Super. But most of the characters hold up very well even without the hidden move. It’s matter of opinions, I have no problem at all on having to unlock the Hidden Super, too bad you have.

I’d guess if the game opens to competitive/tournament gameplay, in an arcade release or something, Hidden moves would be unlocked from the beginning, however.

First of all, that isn’t a good comparison. Second of all, it’s not accurate. SDM’s in 98 do very comparable damage. About the same damage even. So no, they’re still not Neo Maxes.

Everyone gets something out of their EXDM. Even if it’s just an additional combo option, the fact that you can get that kind of damage without having to activate before hand is a big deal. Just because you CAN play the character without the EXDM doesn’t mean you should have to. No matter what character you play you’re still losing options, and that’s garbage.

They’re their “maximum supers” and that’s everything matters.

Right, but it’s ridiculous to say you’re out of options if you can’t use the max super. If you think that’s garbage, whatever, it’s your opinion, but I disagree and I don’t think the max supers are THAT important.
