They messed up and didn’t do anything big for Fatal Fury’s 20th Anniversary on 2011. They even still have Garou MOTW 2 in the bag and they could have finished that up and put it out on Neogeo even as a token (since people will pirate it) or finish up the project on different hardware. So although it’s a bit sad to think so, I wouldn’t be surprised if ROF is the only game they put out this year that is KOF related despite being the 20th anniversary.
At the beginning of the month SNK playmore registered a new trademark for “KOF” with the Japanese Patent and Trademark office. It was filed under class 9 (video games), 28 (accessories and parts for video game machines) and 41 (online games).
SNK already had a “KOF” trademark registered, but it was bound to an old logo. Yet, it’s expiration far in the future (2018) so this isn’t a renewal of that one, and is probably for something entirely new.
Considering the recent trends of releasing sequels and reboots of popular franchises using only acronyms as the title, it’s quite likely that we’re looking at that kind of possibility.
The recent announcement of the mobile game The Rhythm of Fighters may have left fans a little disgruntled, but if this indicates a new King of Fighters game in development, it could save the day, especially since the trademark makes no mention of mobile platforms.
[s]As of now, there is no source confirming the trademark.
Article (originally from DualShockers) was written with no basis of information, just saying that “a trademark exists.” Also has Mai as the article picture; pretty easy way to distract people from the article quality.[/s]
Aww, and here I was all hyped up for another amazing pachislot game because companies known for fighting games just fucking suck when it comes to making fighting games.
After seeing the hurtboxes and collision boxes in KOFXIII, I don’t know if I want to see SNKP make another KOF game. I don’t know if they could actually learn their lesson. I mean, 98umFE and 02um are cool, but man who fucking okayed those collision boxes in XIII. Even up to Climax. Man fuck. Fuck all this shit.
More hitbox/hurtbox/collision box data from KOFXIII over here.
Seriously, this game just seems as if it were designed to be scrub appeasing bullshit. Don’t know if I can trust a KOFXIV.
For me, the cr.C anti-airs with wide distance gaps between the collision box to the hitbox is an even worse offender. That and small projectile hitboxes that don’t reflect the animation at all.
You know, you could look at the 98og wiki on wiki.shoryuken.com and you can very well see that they’re not KOF hitboxes. The collision boxes are set way futher back on cr.C and cl.C/D normals with a few character exceptions such as Athena’s and Iori’s cl.D and the hurtboxes are massively extended into the hitboxes. Take 98 Daimon’s df.C compared to the hurtboxes of his XIII df.C.
For you to say that is an insult in the form of the spit of ignorance upon my shoes.
I’m more worried about the new SamSho being some nonsense combo-heavy game simply because “it looks cool.” As if a sizable health depleting heavy Slash is less cool than some bullshit looking 30 hit combo.
