SNK Playmore is recruiting staff for "new KOF and Samurai Shodown games"

http://www.snkplaymore.co.jp/employment/

They are searching for people with “new ideas” for “new games and pachislot” of KOF and Samurai Spirits/Shodown series. So i guess we can say that they are starting to work on something…

I think we should collectively apply for that job. I would volunteer to be a gameplay designer and tester. Here’s a mock application.

I love 3S and to stomp people to death so there’s my background.

GGPO netcode is standard. Seriously Japan, get your head out of your ass and stop being xenophobic to Western ideas.

Release everything on Steam. Huge market. Copy/paste: Seriously Japan, get your head out of your ass and stop being xenophobic to Western ideas.

How about a Samurai Shodown that is either 4 buttons and doesn’t require macros or make it a 6 button game. Have it play like V SP with 2 button throws and graphic fatalities.

KOFXI UM with slight rebalancing.

Or a new KOF that either plays like 98 with a selectable sub-system or plays like XI.

Last Blade 3.

Real Bout 2 UM.

New Metal Slug with branching paths in every level or Metal Slug HD.

Oh and Pachislot; Blue Mary strip tease thing.

Make a Mai hentai with those guys who did Bible Black.

Get Production I.G to make a full on KOF anime.

Hire me SNKP.

They need folks who’ve worked on fixed delay rollback netcode/GGPO.

EDIT:
Off course, I really wish they’d just take Lab Zero’s standing offer to do a new Garou.

I hope this doesn’t mean they are thinking of focusing on 3D. I hated every single 3D game they ever did.

3D can look good as in the cases of Soul Calibur and MVC3 (IMHO) but considering the costs of HD development I’m wondering where they’re getting this money to do a 3D project. It would make sense to do an XI UM because the assets are there and the UM games were successful in the arcades.

more sprites

KOFXII and XIII sprites were made with 3D first with pixels drawn over them. Maybe they want people to contract for that? At the very least they’re interested in making new KOF though, that’s good.

Whatever they make, hope it’s as good as XIII is and has better netcode.

If anything, I think that their “collaboration” with TenCent and XuanDouZhiWang might be a sign of what is to come.

The main difference between XD and KOFXIII is that XD doesn’t bother with the extra step of drawing pixels over hundreds upon thousands of frames of animation, which is part of the reason why it took so long to make XII/XIII in the first place. If anything, I would say that XD proves that you don’t have to bother with that extra step in order to be able to maintain a certain “feel” of playing a 2D game.

So, while I may miss the pixel art? I wouldn’t mind if SNKP also decided that KOFXIV and any other possible games they may work decide to exercise a similar style. Anything to avoid the nightmarish conditions that leaked out during KOFXII/XIII’s development, and also make it so that we can play their games sooner.

If I’m right with my guess, hopefully, SNKP palling around with TenCent may lead to other good things…like the use of the rollback code they utilize for XD.

X-D needs better animation, though.

Yeah, I kind of like what they were going for with the 3D models as sprite thing but they’re also snipping too many animations before sprite-ifying them, IMO. Attacks can look janky or simplistic if you cut too many frames while turning them into sprites.

If SNK is going to go that route for a future fighting game, I’d like that they at least approach the process with the same level of diligence that they showed when they were drawing over the animations because I really appreciate the smoothness.

Hey maybe normals will actually do damage this time.

The 3D models used for KOF XIII were mostly rough references for animation consistence. Not the same as doing a detailed 3D model to use as the final visuals for the game.

Good to see them finally going forward with developing new mobile dating sim games. I get the feeling this job listing isn’t for fighting game development.

Agreed. But I guess in some respects, it all depends on the maker. With both NRS (Mortal Kombat/Injustice) and now ASW with their new and upcoming Guilty Gear, for example? Even though they went 3D…they intentionally kept a bit of the “stiffness”/“choppiness”, because they deliberately wanted to maintain the “feel” of playing their 2D games. I’m actually somewhat impressed that ASW opted for such thing, considering that this was the opportunity for them to joss it if they actually wanted to do something different.

But anyway, I’m sure that if SNKP wanted to, they could make a game that feels just like their 2D stuff. It’s just a matter of waiting and seeing how they do it.

If what Arcsys is doing with the new GG is 2.5D then bring on this new 3D venture by SNKP.

I wouldn’t mind if they make something out of fighting games like those games on ps1,athena and koudelkao_O

I would send an intention letter but I can’t understand even with the translator.

Isn’t it’s KoF’s anniversary this year? I won’t be surprised if they announce something soon.

That said, I’m beginning to have my doubts that it’ll be on a new graphics engine. IMO, they’ll probably stick to the existing one for at least one more game, then switch over the a new one (maybe the one that’s rumoured to be in development) for the next game.

New KOF game

There’s no problem with this at all. The sprites look extremely good, and it runs just fine.
