ok cool, then snk can just make another random looking 2d fighter that wont get notice by anyone but us. and what a lazy ass statment “it will cost to much.” shit, everything costs too much.
yeah hemorrhaging money is a much better business strategy
you come to one conclusion and settle. lol
I’m just curious to see if they’ll base themselves on the Legacy of Might alpha or not. If it’s the case, we’ll have the same sprite design and Ryo as Mr Karate (amongother things)
Only if they do the art using expensive Japanese artists. SNK could easily outsource the work to South Korean animators - they’ve been using computers for much of their drawing for years, so there’s no reason they couldn’t be trained to do it for games as opposed to television.
very interested in the high-res garou sequel
Sony are not relaxing their “no-2D policy” at all. The PS2 was never a target for this policy in Japan. SCEA (America) tried to enforce the policy on the PS2 in their own region, but failed.
The PS3 will have the “no-2D policy”. SNK-Playmore have already announced that after the PS2 they will shift focus to the Nintendo Wii to continue development of their 2D games on next-get consoles.
cant wait for the new garou
GAROU SEQUEL WILL BE IN 2D.WHY? SIMPLY BECAUSE THE GAME WAS ALREADY 70% DONE BEFORE SNK WENT TO BANKRUPTCY.
SOURCE? LOOK IT IN NEWS ARCHIVE,INTERVIEW WITH SNK,FALCON OR SOMETHING, IN cyberfanatix.
AND STOP THE HATE I LIKE MARCO RODRIGUEZ(I REFUSE TO CALL HIM BUTT,THAT’S JUST LAME).
btw people need to realize that SCEA never had a “no 2d” policy they had a “no 2d games that look like ass outside of compilations” policy
What about Symphony of the Night and Megaman X4???
Those games certainly didn’t look like “ass” in 1997 and yet SCEA initially refused to let them on the PSX simply because THEY WERE 2-D.
People seem to forget that SNK isn’t the only one SCEA has been a bitch to.
YEAH what about nippon ichi then.
their games are more 2d than 3d right?!, never heard they have had any problem with SONY.
What? Those were released on PSX no problems. They had no standards for PSX on 2D. In fact, Megaman X5 and X6 were released no problems too, and those were in the mid and late lifecycle of the system.
I dunno, Nippon Ichi is… kinda pushing the limit but it’s better than PSX standard 2d. Remember that they let both Guilty Gear X2 and Isuka be released on PS2 in the lifecycle. They seem to have a standard that’s not that high, but they certainly don’t want anything that probably run on PS1 very easily.
problem is that scea knows nothing of the term Arcade Perfect, so running on the psx fine to them could mean, running on the psx shittily.
[rant about shitty fighter ports on ps1 here]
Of course they never “HAD” a no-2D policy. They never successfully implemented it - SCEA has got no control over SCEJ. No surprises there, considering SCEJ generates 10 times the money that SCEA does.
That will change for the PS3 however, once we are all ruled by SCEI.
but that’s not what i’m saying, if the “game” itself runs “fine” on the PSX, it doesn’t matter, even if minor sacrifices are made and the game is horribly fucked up my capcom porting it, that’s not their fault.
Bustar WOLF on ps2 BITCH!!
that has nothing to do with anything
At this rate in the game, SNKP really can’t afford to keep re-using the same sprites any longer. When even the die-hard fans start to complain, it’s time to start thinking of ways to implementing change, and re-capture more of what they had as the “old” SNK.
One way to go is the “high res sprites and animations!” route, a la 3S and Guilty Gear. It’s feasible, at least if SNK like started work say, 2-3 months ago, and intends on getting this game out in the arcades by like Summer '07. If they’ve been managing their money wisely that they’ve been getting from these PS2 ports and new releases, they should ideally have the money to fund scuh a project like this, while still churning out possibly another round of KOF and Metal Slug releases (both 2D and 3D) to keep the gravy train going. Of course, this could still end up being pricy, and for a genre like this, where the return may or may not have been worth it, this is an iffy route.
The other possible method may be to take a cue from Rumble Fish and its sequel, and use that type of graphics engine as a means to power a MOTW sequel. Honestly, I’m surprised we haven’t seen more “me too’s” popping up and trying to utilize RF’s graphic style as a way to implement 2D fighters, especially now that the market is ripe for some one to expand moreso on what Dimps started (and with the notion that RF2 will more than likely NEVER see a sequel). If SNKP hasn’t already considered this idea (hell, I’d consider contacting Dimps too, for that matter), I’d definitely think they should.
If nothing else, I’d love to see what could happen if such things like “battle damage” and other things that could only be possible by implementing the RF gfx engine was used. :wgrin:
