SNIKT!: Wolverine Combo, Reset, and Opener Thread

Are you referring to calling rapid slash then doing otg slide for the pick up? That’s how you get to the fatal claw loops. Unless you’re saying instead of that he’s using it as a reset for another b.slash.

I’m mostly asking about strategy to land hits in the neutral game. Though popping a slash as a reset could be a good way to finish someone off without needing a 2nd meter if it works like that.

Kind of a minor thing, but I have a XF1 throw/air throw combo that I like to use.<br><br>Throw, dash (once dash in the corner, two dashes if midscreen)  3M, X-Factor, immediately jump j.MMLS, land, jump j.MMLS, land, jump j.MMLS, land, s.HS sj.MMH Drill Claw Dive Kick, land, s.HS sj.HS, land, 3M + Assist, H Uppercut mashed out<br><br>Does 1,050,000ish meterless, builds about 2 bars and change.  <br><br>You can do a L Uppercut -> Fatalclaw at the end instead if you want to kill characters with more health than that.   You can also do j.MMHS on some characters instead of j.MMLS for a little more damage, but this is pretty universal.  <br><br>If you’re having trouble doing it consistently, you can also cut it back to just two jump loops instead of 3, and then it should be undroppable.<br>

Anyone have tips for the otg slide pickup with wolvie and vergil i cant get to seem to get the timing down. Its stricter than other assists

nice. i can’t believe i haven’t thought of this, especially considering the fact i’ve been doing xfactor jump loops a lot lately; i’m definitely going to play around with this. just one thing would like to point out to people though(since i’ve come across it a few times): after a b.slash xx b.charge, it’s always better to continue with a slash loop than it is to continue with a jump loop; the former does more damage as well as builds less meter for the opponent. <blockquote class=“Quote”>

hola all, was wondering if anyone was able to break down the rapid slash welcome setup into digestible bites.<div><br></div><div>seems the idea is to call it and superjump, then attempt to dive kick behind them so the RS crosses up. mine just gets blocked more than id expect, and maybe im just jumping too early or late.</div><div><br></div><div>just thought id check if anyone had picked apart the specifics. and fuck vergil for being so required. so much rather jam session or tatsu with my plasma  ): (</div>

Question for you guys: say I do berserker slash and the opponent chicken blocks. I pop speed up hyper and they hit L + M to pushblock during the hyper freeze. At this point I should be able to jump up for an untechable throw, correct? (A guardbreak)

If this is possible it seems like I’d see people doing it all the time. Any vids?

Here’s another question for youse guys:

Favorite normal jump air to air hit conversions? How about SJ?

I want to hit the lab and test conversions using the M to L chain - I’m thinking LMLS or LMLH into standing LMLHS might do nicely. How about LMLH xx drill claw, divekick?

I also feel like drill claw may be an underutilized air to air - bradygames guide says doing drill claw straight up underneath an incoming character beats all normals. Sometimes I feel like I need a tool to cover the space directly above wolverine.

correct. however, i find it much easier to get the guard break if they pushblocked before the hyper freeze. there are other ways to get a guard break though. a falling j.H, land, dash to negate the pushblock, forward jump and throw works.

for normal jump, i like j.MHS, land, st.MHS. at sj height, j.H xx drill claw + dive kick, land, j.MMHS, land, st.S…

i wouldn’t start it with j.L; its hitbox isn’t good for air to air conversions. start with j.M or j.H instead.

look up “MMHS-combos for wolverine” on youtube for some ideas.

2 questions. My team for context is wolve doom vergil (with other 3rds here and there since vergils annoying):

  1. Is there a good normal jump height block string or sequence that brings the opponent to the ground and keeps us in a position to keep pressuring? Example being to snap someone in, jump and do x, y, z and then be able to land and do a sL xx crossup slash kinda thing? Basically, catch someone in the air and force a ground mixup from it.

  2. Does a non xf non b.charged non assisted wolverine have a full combo off an instant overhead jL? Assuming not, what’s our overhead threat? Why not just always block low (disregarding throws for the moment)? It may require the ol beam (or whatever assist is your pleasure), but sometimes I use the beam as a means to SET UP the mixup, making it unavailable for use during the mixup. Am I making any sense?

Thanks in adv!

  1. assist + divekick works. forward jump meaty j.H, j.S + assist works. what problem are you having exactly? where/when exactly are they escaping your setup?

  2. yeah. he can setup fuzzy guards on his own with falling j.S…or he can just let one of his assists set it up and get a full combo without any further assistance: standing opponent blocks assist > assist ends> dash up j.LLS, land, st.LMH…

  1. They tend to still be airborne when I land, though for a left right maybe that doesn’t matter, but it would be nice to threaten high low also.

  2. Does just blocking assist cause fuzzy? I thought they had to block an overhead first (in which case, the jS first sequence would work, we just can’t always jS first). But if after assist we can just dash jLLS, that’s perfect.

okay, so land before them, let assist cover you on their way down and partly when they land, then either cr.L or j.L…depends on assist tho.

they just have to block while in the standing animation. for example, if your opponent blocks b.slash while standing and they pushblock either before or after the freeze for b.charge, you can dash in and j.LLS, land, st.LMH pretty easily.

Is there a reason people don’t use the mmhs combos that Wolverine-Master posted on youtube as their bnb? Are they unreliable?

post a link to video or be more specific. i know there is a video titled “MMHS - Combos for Wolverine” but it’s not from wolverine-masters youtube channel, trinidadbabyboy.

They seem like better combos than the traditional one. Maybe it’s because they can be a bit assist dependent.

that’s one reason. most of the time, you’re going to only have one assist available during a combo. and if that combo isn’t going to kill, i’d rather use that one assist left to set up a reset–only if the reset requires an assist call before the combo is over–than use it to extend a combo that wont kill. another reason would be is that you’re not always sure what side you’re going to be on after dive kick, which can screw it up.

also, i have been seeing a lot of wolvie players do these jump loops after a stray dive kick ground bounce; since j.S won’t cause a knock down then.

Anyone have any tips for landing the instant overhead? It’s obviously key to his game (otherwise it’s pretty easy to just block low all the time against him). It’s tough for me because of how stubby his little legs are. It makes it very difficult to land it on a crouching low blocking opponent. The timing seems to be quite strict unless you’re fighting Sentinel, Nemesis, or Hulk.
