Can’t help you with Cody buuuuut…
Ryu, Ken, Akuma, any fireball throwing twat You can punish fireball spam on reaction with non EX Hozanto or with EX run, remember it has two levels of armor.

With cody, just make sure not to fall for some of his frame traps.
Common cody trap: Midscreen badstone, lk-Slide (just block both, then punish with bunshin chain)
Some of the criminal upper combos, if not spaced correctly, will be punishable by st.MP… judge it for yourself and hit s.MP and ex hozanto. Will make them think twice about using that as a block string.
Don’t let him rush you down… and at the same time, if you score a knockdown, it generally safe to go for crossups and pressure mixups since zonk knuckle is not that great for wakeups. Hope this helps… I don’t usually have much issues with average codys.
It’s also worth noting that it’s probably not a good idea to OS throw tech against Cody… better to try and react to the throw or just eat the throw… since he has a lot of traps inbetween his blockstrings that can be counterhit setups if you were trying to OS tech throw.
I can’t find the original post right now, but someone was discussing Dudley and how the U2 owns “any” of his machine gun punches as a reversal. Is this supposed to be done on reaction to him doing it? Because the U2 will never ever reach him if he starts this move anywhere outside of jab range. It’s completely unpunishable by the ultra after a block unless done nearly point blank range…which never happens outside of training mode?
Ya apparently it was a mistake. It only works on close up jab MGB (which is good since thats the one they use to pressure). I think it also works on close Mp MGB… but ex and HP MBG you need to reversal bunshin tatsu MK or ex.
I was checking a few things against the Ryu/Ken j.HK to sweep HK You can block the high HK and then EX Senpaku before the sweep HK for full hit, also I was trying to find a good punish for just there HK sweep that they love so much, either you can do a HK slide for a mere 90 damage or and EX hozanto for 120, since Guy usually has lots of meter I say go for the Ex shoulder ram.
I have been pretty successful playing against him. ex-tatsu is great on wake up when he tries to jump in on you with that slam. Also I find in general that fuerte is only effective against opponents that are stationary so I’m always moving in that match so he doesn’t have the ability to set up anything and once he tries an attack and fails I punish him. Hope that helps you some…
I’ve always hated playing against Fuerte because I never know if the person controlling him actually has any idea how to really use him, or if they are just going for non stop shennanigans hoping his speed will always catch someone, so I am constantly running around against him as well. I feel really scrubby for doing so, but I can’t react fast enough to go from crouching block to standing to avoid his body spash/throw guessing games at close range, and if you’re blocking high you risk being thrown.
I honestly think the same dam thing, He really seems random, and if I am stationary its over so I would rather feel scrubby then lose to every dam Elf I see.
I’ll 3rd this. In over a year of online play I only encounter one single calm Elf, and he destroyed me.
Man, Like an above poster mentioned. Just freaking block. My replays are floating around online somewhere. Theres times when ill just sit in the corner, and block/ OS tech throws (Depending on character). These Scrub Ryu’s Online just do what I like to call the “tea-bag” motion, where they start humping the ground, reving up that good Ole “AWWWWYOUKEN”. Just dont be stupid with your jump-ins. Ryu wont be that much of a problem.
I actually think the Guy-Vega match up is in Vega’s favor.
For one thing, Vega can outfootsie Guy like hell.
Second, Vega can outfootsie guy like hell… lol
Vega’s walk speed, forward and back are so fast.
I’m also a Vega main, and what I do is I try to play with the distance of the characters.
Like, I would walk forward into Guy’s cr.mk range, and just walk back and forth to bait it out, and as soon as I see it, I use st.hp!
Your best bet in fighting Vega is to corner him and pressure him to death.
Vega’s wake up got a little better because his Scarlet Terror is unthrowable now.
His Ultra isn’t as good as you think, it can be stuffed like a regular move if he tried to launch you in the air. If you stuff it, you take away more than half of his revenge meter.
But so far, the way I see it, Vega has the advantage in this match up.
i’ll keep testing it out.
I also play as vega, the thing is if you pressure vega, he has no way out. You can also jump in on vega for free. He doesnt have any options to stop pressure.
I think this matchup is hard until you get inside, and then its a cakewalk. This matchup is actually really fun since vega can poke you to death but once your in on vega your staying there and get to really work his ass.
What do you do if a good Boxer just gets a health lead at the start and then goes into turtle mode? How do you approach him? His uppercut beats Guys flip/jump elbow, jab beats run >> overhead kick, Houzanto just gets me punished, and all of his normals pretty much crap all over mine.
Try to get it so your overhead hits him at the very tip of Guy’s foot. It’s a battle of patience, you have to be extra careful too. You can try psyching him out by doing run, stop, run stop, and stuff. Tips but not really sure if they will be any helpful. Worth a shot though.
Guy vs Ibuki is confusing, its just all over the place.
Also yeah no slidez.
If you can get more mobile than Ibuki, the matches generally turn out better in my experience… At a distance, always remember that Ibuki might do that slide grab at any moment, so be prepared to block low. Easy punish…
I’m getting the impression that Ibuki doesn’t handle wall-jump ins too well… How is Ibuki’s AA options?
Ibuki has two decent anti-airs, some variety of s.MP (the upward push looking attack) and I believe close s.MK, the latter of which puts you in a juggle state for Raida. Trying to cross up an Ibuki that knows what she’s doing and not waking up just isn’t a good idea. Other than that, Guy vs. Ibuki doesn’t seem that bad. Guy’s normals are hella better than hers and if you stay ready to block low for her sliding grab, you get a free decent punish; throw her into the corner and start doing mix-up shenanigans, and she’s done for. EX BSK does wonders in this match-up too. I’m not too intimidated by Ibuki in this match-up, personally; it’s at least even and more than likely 6-4 in Guy’s favor. Apart from her standard combo/mix-up game, she doesn’t have anything special against Guy that gives her an edge. Just don’t get into a habit of jumping against her, as her anti-air normals are pretty consistent against Guy. Elbow Drop may or may not beat her s.MP anti-air; someone should test that.
I think Guy vs. Elf is just bad; I played in a tournament today and got knocked out by an okay Elf player. I had zero experience with the match-up (more than likely a big reason why I lost), but it doesn’t feel that great. Realistically, though, this match-up is probably even. Most of Guy’s normals seem better than Elf’s; I haven’t tested the possibility of just throwing out s.HP if he tries to run. I think it’s also worth testing the strength of TK air command throw for this match-up in dealing with his run follow-ups. If EX Run-Slide can avoid Fajita Buster and Propeller Tortilla (something else to test), then I think this match-up would be ten times easier for Guy. Actually, I believe EX bushin flip has invincibility on start-up; anyone want to test the viability of this as a wake-up option against Elf?
I also gained a boatload of Adon experience from today’s tournament, but I don’t know how much is actually worth posting. That and it’s late. I may do it tomorrow.
The best way to beat a decent Fuerte player from what I’ve seen is to fake-out everything. When you do a run, LK to stop, then react to what he does. Same thing for a jump: when airborne, 2mp to stop it short. One thing that needs to be noted is to not to aggressively use the Bushin Flip unless you KNOW Fuerte can’t counter it on reaction. The Izuna Drop will stuff out his air grab (I believe… might have just been quick reflexes on my part. :P), but his grab will stuff out your flip. I’ve found it best to bait him into jumping by stopping mid-run, and either go in for the run-slide or, if situation allows, flip and ID him into the floor.
Other than that, you’re essentially dealing with a grappler that can move faster than Guy can, and Guy’s biggest strength against a grappler is his own speed. In that regard, it’s better to try to be better than the player rather than the character, since it IS a bit of a rough match-up on paper. Definitely an uphill battle, that.
Well I guess it technically does help in the matchups.
Someone brought up awhile ago that Run > slide beats out some focus attacks, I made a video out of the sheer boredom I’ve been running into:

Enjoy.
