So I was at the fight club yesterday (2/3/2011) - event was great. Tons of people. A VIP section (yet the only VIP there IMO was Seth, Rey Jimenez and MegaRan, no offense to “gootecks” LOL). Food, drinks, music - it was all there.
Played 4 matches, won all 4.
Used Trish, Dante and Hulk.
Trish is fucking awesome. I dominated with her. Dante on the other hand…if you approach playing Dante as a rushdown character you might not do as well as you’d anticipate. In many ways incorperating his specials properly requires a lot of technique, almost making a technical/speed hybrid character. You really need to be careful and use Dante’s specials at the right moment, at the right situation. Dante - needs - to have good assist characters. To help create openings.
For example, using hysteric (the rocket attack, QCF + C) when another opponent that has a projectile that is on the ground isn’t a good way to go. A lot of their projectiles will beat out Dante’s hysteric. And his rockets will “self-detonate” if Dante gets hit too quickly. I know a lot of us already knew that attack had some start-up to it, but it’s pretty eye-opening to see it get stuffed in an actual match that you’re playing in. Instead, what I started to do was kind of use Dante’s hysteric as a long distance anti-air, if the opponent would jump/super jump towards me I’d use hysteric (which tracks) and then dash under on the other side of the opponent when they land, call out an assist and then do Dante’s bnb’s combo. That worked gold.
Also, Dante’s crouching A is god-like. Tremendous range, safe, and easy to hit confirm off of.
Also, Dante’s health seems okay. It’s below average, but not by much. No worse than a typical “vagina tax” that the female characters tend to get.
His Devil Trigger, yeah - people need to start using it more. It too is awesome. The health regeneration (for red health) is pretty significant/noticeable. In regards to it’s health regen - it’s almost like a mini-x factor (not sure how or if Dante can cancel normals via devil trigger). But the health regen, defense and offense boost is -clearly- there, noticeable and can very well help turn the match in your favor. Bottom line, people need to use it more. I think that’s an early key/lesson Dante players will need to learn.
And lasty, Dante’s teleport can be effective if used properly. If you kind of get into a projectile match with Dante, a well timed teleport can catch your opponent off guard. I did this against a pretty solid MODOK player.
