in discussion with a group of friends, and one of them said that dante is “…too much effort for no reward when vergil and zero play the same role only better.” thats completely wrong by my own thoughts, which makes me wonder.

why choose dante over someone like, well, zero or vergil? why do (some) people consider dante as “no reward”?

because theyre lazy. you have to work HARD and play at a high level to win with dante in certain matchups, gotta be a very smart player all the time. thats fine though, he has the tools for anyone to play smart in any matchup imo.

As Dante might be more versatile then Vergil, Vergil was blessed with normal as long as Ghost rider and as fast as strider. His DHC options are retarded, getting a full combo, into as much meter as you are willing to spend from any combo.

But when considering how they are played, Vergil and Dante are completely different characters, people tend to categorize them with the same play style because they are twins and swords. Vergil is closer to Wolvy’s rushdown right/left mixup style then to Dante’s zoning/control screen style.

That it more or less, why pick Dante? I rather play rushdown ingame style in almost every game (Jam, Makoto (BB), Dudley, Dudley), but for some reason I haven’t go for the usual suspects with this game (although I do play Wesker…).
At first Dante was just fitting my Captain team, and after a while I actually started to enjoy him much more, and watching Yipes raised the hype for his potential. I admit that if I have to gamble on it, I will still go with my Morrigan (same shell of Strange/Wesker), but idk, maybe one day I’ll feel that my Dante can get me further then any other team.

I think I’m rambling, Dante is zoner mid range, Vergil is rushdown, completely different characters,

Vergil is retarded at low/mid level

to keep it stylish, of course.

i feel like dante is a character that is only limited by the person playing him. i agree, dante really does have damn near every tool in the box, you just have to use them correctly. which is way easier said than done, lol

the discussion didnt go very far. opinion’s unchanged. still “but still the effort it takes to learn him are just not worth it to me.” and “work load is ridiculous for a 7-800k bnb” and so on.

Simply put, Dante is a character were the reward given out will only be worth as much as the effort put in.

Is dante a good anchor??

Dante has safe long rage normals, great DHC’s, two moves that can’t be pushblocked, air dash, teleport, great zoning tools, builds meter good, have almost infinite reset options, a true reset unblockable, can zone you, rush you, grab you at full screen(grapple), great mobility, the only one besides doom with 3 incredible assists, has synergy with almost all the cast, the most moves of all characters, works in any spot, and a lot more stuff; it is fair that you need to work hard to do damage and play well with him.

It is better on point or in 2nd, but if your team relly benefits from his assists, then put him on that spot, you can devil trigger in x factor lvl 3 and spam thunderbolts, it chips A LOT, or do whatever you like, is dante he can do everything,also dante is not reliant on assists, the speed and power from x-factor just makes him god.

Stinger into Reverb Shock is good, but be careful because if you miss stinger you cannot BC, Air Play is the projectile you want to abuse more, that with a beam assists is great for zoning, airdash into j.H is the most common way to try to get in, because the great range it has then you can do stinger+beam assist>teleport>airdash j.H simple but effective(see Yipes, he uses this like 13137192831 times per match and it works), also it is great for advancing guard abuses because it completely negeates it because of the teleport, with a low assist(especially Felicia’s one) you can do unblockables all day, also if you need to punsih you can do Stinger+Beam into a hammer/j.S combo(there are more assist that allow this) for good damage, if you have problems with divekicks use preemptive acid rains , also works against teleporters, in Devil Trigger Thunderbolt and Vortex completely negate advance guard, you can also end with weasel shot some blocktrings to be in frame advantage, this is not much stuff but hope it helps you a little at least.

Thank You so much I was wondering this cause my team is Spider-Man, Doom, Dante I really love Dante for his jam session assist since it helps spider-man keep super jumpers and flight heavy characters away from spidey and also he helps doom to, I know there is more useful anchors such as vergil, wesker, etc I hate those guys, so I decided on Dante since I love the character and he is so fun to play, Thanks for the Input man :slight_smile:

I feel like there are tons of things to know/do with Dante that are not documented anywhere, Maybe as a collection of thread pages and some match videos.

There’s a lot of things (or tricks rather) that Dante has that no one uses. For example,
-Jam Session AA XFC SJ j(M)H Killer Bee to kill off jump-happy characters
-using Twister for resets after Million Dollars in the corner
-resets in general

Yes, and that matchup is hell. The team was Dorm (Dark Hole)/ Dante (Jam Session)/ Mags(Disruptah). MastahCJ mixups, Dark Matter mixups, pinpoint zoning and Jam Session for easy keepaway and hitconfirms into Chaotic Flame. Luckily Im friends with the guy and he said that when playing Dorm you basically have to predict where the opponent wants to be (especially against a character like Dante). Basically, its just a matter of doing the same with Dante or rather, you have to guess what he’s going to do and find a way to avoid and/or punish it. Fullscreen? He’ll probably teleport+Disruptah or Purification H/M. If you’re pretty sure he wont teleport, plink/wavedash into Stinger xx Reverb. If you think he’s gonna teleport, either SJ out or try to chicken block and throw if it’s not timed well.

It basically becomes a game of gambling, AFAIK, there’s no 100% way to beat a good Dorm. Depending on the team (and how well your incoming mixups are), I would XF and kill him off

dante has no redundant moves. there’s a use for all of them, although that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re all useful outside of very specific situations.
i was thinking about bumping deviljin’s thread with some stuff, might do that after trying some more ideas out.

and by that i mean i’ll forget about it in a couple hours and never bother to do it

Haven’t tried Jam Session into SJ M , and also if you end with tempest insead of million dollars the enemy will remind in the air, giving you enough time to call an assist for a fast mixup, maybe you can set acid rain to force them to block and then do a mixup.

I maybe wrong, i hope i am not, but in my team of Dante/Felicia/Someone(maybe gonna try Strider), i found that of you are in the corner(it works in midscreen also but sometimes doesn’t, if you do j.H>s.M>s.H>Stinger+call Felicia>Hammer, the second hit hit(the low one) doesn’t combo if you delay a bit the hammer, meaning you do an unblockable with the low hit and the hammer, that allows you to do a full hammer combo, meaning that you do 220k damage+ around 800k damage of the hammer combo, and because the assist of felicia not completely was used in the second part, you can use it for an unblockable grapple reset in the same hammer combo so it would be 220k(before the unblockable)+500~600k(the hammer combo ending with grapple)+ 400~500k(of the grapple reset)+ 200k if you end with Million Dollars, is enough to overkill thor, the Felicia+Hammer reset is completely unblockable, you can´t hard tag, you can’t jump, you can’t do anything, as i said in the beginning i have recorded it and tried to escape and it seems not possible, the reason why i chose felicia´s assist is because she allows you to do the grappler reset , this works great with drones or hidden missiles, because if you combo of one of those, doom or sent will leave the screen before you can do the first reset part for the recover time to use another assist, as i said in midscreen is possible, but because of the pushback of Dante’s normals(thanks capcom) it makes that Felicia’s two hits comboes because of the spacing instead of just one hit.

I am gonna record this in a week or two with some other stuff i found.

Hammer and Vortex are useless moves, also Reverb Shock, that move completely sucks.

You mean raw Twister xx Tempest after a ground bounce/hard knockdown instead of comboing into MD? Pretty sure Dante recovers way to slow to do anything afterwards. I usually make MD cause an air tech then use Twister to either hit my opponent back into a combo or put them in block stun for a DT mixup

You mean for the Volcano after air throw? It’s definitely like a 1 frame link and (AFAIK) can only be done at regular jump height. He can also use Twister instead but then you either have to XFC (good for killing the opponent if you really need to), DT (cant build meter and must rely on assists to build damage/meter) or cancel straight into MD for like 300k or something (low damage and not really worth it). In the corner though, I think you can do Twister xx Tempest land S.

I’m having trouble doing sj.:s::dp::m:~:m: :qcf::m:~:m:…, the opponent will hit the ground before the :qcf::m:~:m: most of the but if I do sj.:s:-cancel-:qcf::l:~:l:-whiff-:dp::m:~:m: I’m able to get the :qcf::m:~:m: every time, I guess I’m forced to do the :qcf::l:~:l: every time right?

Also would I be able to do this at full HSD?

Well ground bounces do actually pop the opponent up to different heights depending on how high the opponent was when the got hit. Maybe you’re canceling into Beehive too fast/slow? Never tried that combo though so Im not sure

So from the people who have used Drones and Vajra , what do you think is the best? I am deciding if i should use Dante/Felicia/Strider or Dante/Sentinel/Felicia, i wan to use the low for mixups, and the other assist needs to be godlike for Dante, but don’t know who should i pick, what team looks better?

I checked it out one more time, looks like the opponent have to stop “bouncing” (a bit before the end of the hard knockdown) and it’ll work. I only tested it it starting with the :s: on a standing, jumping and sjumping training dummy. I assume it’d work on any hard knockdown as long as you still have your ground bounce.

Since my Dante combos aren’t up to par, I have a hard time pushing the HSD to the max and then going for this ender which is why I’m asking if someone could test it for me.
