Mags goes well, is a great anchor and has a fucking amazing assist for both characters. Or, the obvious choice, just play trenchcoats. Wesker assists allows vergil do deal damage off of anything. And with Jam Session, vergil controls the skies as well. Then you get full confirm off of Jam Session with Wesker assist to set up swords loop, or just go for meter and reset them.
Pick Magneto and put Dante on Crystal assist. Strider also works really well, I would probably pick Weasel Shot for that. I don’t like Vergil/Sentinel much. Hidden Missiles is a fantastic assist for both characters but having Doom on anchor is terrible.
But honestly, Frank was pretty good to begin with. It’s rather easy to level him up with that team.
Magneto/hawkeye/akuma, pretty much any good horizontal assist imo. I recommend one of those 3 since they are both amazing assists and good anchors.
I think Dante can do a grab setup on incoming characters similar to what Marlin-pie is doing with Doom and C.viper. But I can’t test it against XFGC’s (Can anyone test it for me?). I think he could do it with air play as well.
Sadly it doesn’t combo because of the nerf on j.:l:, but I’m trying to see if can work with airplay instead.

I know he can, but this setup could be used after things that you don’t have a lot of time to setup like killing a character with million dollars, etc.
Guys why is it such a struggle to run dante now, how can he deal with all the chars that stay and attack air borne putting you in infinite pressure all day. For example having trouble with nova, spencer, doom (and doom missiles) and what not. Seems like they can just rush down dante for free safely whilst u struggle to get them off or get out of the corner or wherever you get pushed too. In fact what are some good ways to get out of the corner, air s xx’s can only go so far. Other character get out so easy or have some bs dive kick shit or invinc super to fight their way out with. Im thinking like getting in a quick tele air dash back? An other suggestions (devil trigger too unreliable to get out or if u dont have meter etc), any good quick aa specials to xx into dt, maybe dp l flame special? I know thats p fast. So yeh basically how do you fight or run out of non stop retardo pressure with dante? Does he need a defensive assist like tatsu? Also how do you stop said pressure? Anti air m isnt rly cutting it, jump h OS throw xx air play is p nice tho.
First, try to pushblock, that what it’s here for.
If you got cornered and assist lock you down, then you’re screwed, but that was your opponent game plan, if he archive corner and assist then he earned that rushdown.
In any case you should trust your sword, It sound like anime BS, but as Dante you really got the range advantage in the normals department, use it. if someone get in to his normal range, you did something wrong. If they come from way above you should be able to anti air with B or C, if they come with forward AD then the same, or even j.B j.C killer bee, if they rush down, you always got j.S into hammer for relative safe way to keep them in check.
There no real magic trick here, use your range, and try to predict their approach, and remember that if they can call assist to get in, you can call assist to sabotage that.
I have been grinding it out in training mode alot lately and been playing a bunch of rank matches. My Dante has leveled up a bit I haven’t been dropping as many combos as I used too, I have better set ups now, My BC Teleport has improved, I finally have the gun shoot loop down and BC Acid Rain. I’m just wondering I have Dante in the middle spot on my team should I have him on point like I used too?
Ok so i keep hearing something called “bold cancelling” with dante, what exactly is it and is there any good tutorials on how to do it?
Bold Canceling involves canceling Dante’s “Bold Move” (S) + (A). Dante’s Bold Move is used to cancel a move (usually stinger f(H) ) and you can cancel Bold Move into any other move from there. Normally, most bnb’s have Dante do stinger f(H) into Bold Move (S) + (A) into volcano (shoryuken M). It is necessary to use bold move and then cancel it into volcano because you cannot use volcano after stinger otherwise. There are also other applications of Bold Canceling which involve teleports and other things. There’s several Bold Canceling tutorials on YouTube and there’s a Dante Technical Help thread in this forum that also explains more. On a related note, can anyone explain what Bold Blocking is, and how to do it?
bold blocking is cancelling a normal into bold move and blocking during the jump startup. easiest application for it is during an opponent’s super pause (as long as the super has less than 5 frame startup). you can also use it to block assists while you swing, avoid whiff punishment, etc
Bold Blocking is using Bold Move to cancel your whiffed normals and abusing it’s pre-jump frames that allow you to block to actually do so. This is most used/useful when you’re caught whiffing something in a Hyper Flash that you can’t cancel into anything else that’s safe. Mash on bold move. Live to see another day.
Other uses that you may not hear about are include abusing pre-jump frames so that you’re not throwable. Command grab setups go out the window. Mashing on bold move during stagger strings also allows you to block while trying to jump away something that normal chicken blocking does not allow. Chicken Blocking 2.0.
This is cool and all, but I wouldn’t depend on this kind of tactic often. The first time you might net yourself a Hammer punish on whiffed command grab, but if your opponent catches on raw bold move is easily punished. If you have the read though, make’em pay.
I have a question about that actually, sometimes when I bold block, I get hit during the pre-block frames in bold jump. Is that because the move is too fast? EX: When a Hulk does Gamma Crush and I get caught whiffing a st.M or something, I bold jump, then I get hit when Dante does his jump. I don’t really get how it works sometimes. Also yes, you can avoid all grab hypers with it. It’s pretty fucking hilarious actually.

It takes 4 frames for Dante to leave the ground, once he leaves the ground he can’t block or do anything until like the peak of the jump. You have to actually time the bold block on any hyper that hits 5 frames after the flash or later, which is not easy.
For Gamma Crush you can Devil Trigger after the flash and still block, as such my standard offense against a cornered Hulk is [Reverb Shock > Fireworks] xN Devil Trigger if Gamma Crush is attempted. It’s hilarious.

Ive been running dante with my team for quite a while now, but im thinking of building a new team, and I was wondering if there are any characters that are similar to dante playwise. I know dante can do pretty much whatever he wants, but specifically what im looking for is a character with a good assist for either getting in or for mixups, good DHC’s, safe hit confirms, and relatively good damage. Anyone EXCEPT Ammy / Doom / Mags / Vergil. Thanks guys, i really appreciate it
