Mmm I tried it… a blocked launcher is still a blocked launcher. Cant cancel into anything even with the multi lock.

Bummer. Oh well, can’t say we didn’t try to make this broken.

I’m really curious as to why it works at all, and why only Multi-Lock? I know the projectile disappears if Dante gets hit (and I believe it’s his only one that does), so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I think it was explained in the tier/tournament thread, and it works for other characters too. The gist of the explanation was that if any of the hitboxes you put out on the screen touch the opponent, the game acts as if it were a regular combo, something along those lines I can’t remember exactly what it was but it makes sense. The tech was apparently first displayed in some RR vid that was put out.

There has to be more to it because it doesn’t work with Vergil’s Round Trip. That would be so silly.

Yeah, there must be something else. Otherwise it would work with Air Play or Drive, and could actually be useful.
I’ll have to check out that video. I assume it’s on the RR board somewhere?

So for welcome mixups what are some of your approaches? Aside from acid rain mixups what else are you guys trying to incorporate? I feel like Dante’s other tools just allow him to negate the escape options of the other character, but then it just puts the game right back to neutral. This doesn’t do much for pressing the advantage.

If they start blocking my acid rain mixups I just call Drones, do a meaty j.H, and when they’re on the ground, call Felicia assist, Stinger, teleport, j.H for an unblockable.

It’s not entirely practical, but it is hilarious. Teleport after a snapback sometimes gives you that weird zoomout and Dante flies across the screen. So if you snapback, wait just a tick, dash+call Vergil (Rapid Slash), then teleport, you’ll go to the other side, and the opponent falls into Rapid Slash. Which, if isn’t blocked correctly, brings them right to Dante.
Problem with it is timing the teleport to get the desired placement, as well as them falling into Rapid Slash. I’d play around with it more, but I don’t use Vergil so I don’t care about it lol

My actual welcome mixups generally involve Acid Rain and Doom Missiles, and some teleporting/air dashing action, which scales everything to shit. I should probably work on those.

Im having trouble landing the H after the j.H in :h: j. :qcf: :m: j. :h: :h: :s:. Any tips?

Delay the j.:h: after the volcano, so you can lower them enough to get the :h:.

Fellow Dante players, you can end your combo with million carats xxDT then grapple for a reset low, hammer(for raw tags), cross-up/fake cross-up j.:h:/:m: or unblockable if you have a low assist.

some lv3 tech for those running him on anchor (like myself). Obviously you can do a better combo, just a proof of concept.

and what is the combo before milion carats? (just regular hammer in the combo?

P.S I still can’t connect grapple after 6C wall bounce in combo, ideas?

It’s pretty much any combo leading into any hard knockdown (hammer, skydance, or j.:s:) for the million carat xxDT then grapple reset. Its pretty easy. Even if you fail you still got DT to fall back on, but be careful of Haggar or anyone with an invincible move. You can also setup that chip setup someone posted with hidden missiles in the video thread(?).

As for the 6C grapple, input the bold-cancel hysteric almost instantly after the 6C then delay the :h: for the grapple. It’s very much like bold-cancel teleport.

Weasel Shot+Beam assist into Teleport is too sick. Mid-screen you can use airdash j.H to convert into full combo and in the corner I’m doing hammer since ad j.H away from corner misses (possibly character specific) and j.M has too little hitstun. Using hammer is great too because if they block the disruptor they have to deal with a wonky ass teleport Hammer in the corner. If they block the hammer then whatever hold this +16 and my next mixup.

What tech do you speak of?

I think I may have discovered Dante’s instant overhead.

basically flight > devil trigger ends > j.L/j.M on the way down. Once Devil Trigger ends Dante’s flight will end with minimal recovery letting you skip the unfly bit and go straight to jab/medium. Going to be kinda hard to do in a match since you have to keep your eye on the DT meter but it makes for a good mixup.
