Pichu should remain a separate character, and hereâs why: Pichu is available as a âjoke character.â Pichu fills the same role that Dan does; players who want to work harder for their wins can do so. âŚThis presumes Pichu hasnât gotten some buffs since melee, of course.
Dr. Mario effectively is an âechoâ and Iâm not sure why theyâre distinguishing him as not-an-Echo. He has a few different moves, but thatâs about it.
Young Link likewise; it feels like heâs an Echo already in all but name.
Pokemon Trainer is an ambitious character design and hopefully theyâll get him right sooner or later.
Echo characters have identical movesets with very small variations. Lucina and Dark Pit essentially play the same game Marth and Pit do respectively. Same height, weight, run speed, recovery, etc.
Doc on the other hand is much slower, foes have entirely different moves (new dair, down b, a few others) and plays quite a bit differently than mario.
Young link and link have pretty different movesets now, same for toon link.
Theyre keeping echo fighters as barely altered costumes essentially. Doc and y.link dont fit that rule anymore

Iâd argue that a lack of a Tipper greatly changes how Lucina works. Doc is about as different from Mario as Roy is from Marth
Dark Pit is pretty much 1-1 though
I believe Pichuâs new thing is stunning people. It looked like it in the trailer.
Docâs about as Echo-y as Falco is at this point. All his properties are different, he has plenty of different moves, and overall his playstyle differs from Marioâs enough to warrant them being more than just a different flavor. Kinda like what Luigi eventually evolved into.
Young Link is kind of in the same boat as Doc now that Link is different. The changes to bombs alone is monumental for Link, so bringing back Young Link to perform as standard Link makes sense.
Ever since Brawl, Nintendo has been doing a good job of gradually making clones different. And honestly, if we get clones/Echo Fighters, Iâd rather they be âDifferent Version of Xâ than âNew Character who got stuck with different movesâ (Looking at you Ganon). Then we can avoid shitty situations like âWhy would you play Waluigi when Luigi is just a superior version of them?â.

I understand that those characters donât play exactly the same in the same way characters like Falco and Lucas donât anymore either.
My issue is those particular characters donât deserve to have different movesets in the first place, as they arenât important enough characters to have been separate playable characters in the first place. They DO have gameplay differences, but they never should have.
Dr. Mario is literally just Mario in an alt costume, and now that he has other alt costumes that are just alt costumes, itâs particularly annoying for Dr. Mario to be a separate character.
Pichu, Lucina, Dark Pit and Daisy are at least separate characters from Pikachu, Lucina, Pit and Peach, so itâs fine that theyâre âEcho Fightersâ, But none of them were important enough to warrant separate characters.
As for Young Link, I really just donât think the game needs 3 Links. But Iâd be okay with Young Link being an Echo because technically, each of the Links is a different person.
So apparently, there is a âBanana Bombâ item that looks like a banana, but explodes on contact.
I fear what this may mean for Diddy
