So, it seems that everyone is getting buffed? That’s good, a game with better characters usually turns out to be a more fun game.

Found an interesting interaction with Invincibility in this video

0:38 DK Up Bs through Ridley’s Fire. The move stalls as it is hit by more fire, long enough to invincible it’s way through all the fire, much longer than the Invincibility frames should allow.

This is…troubling

I also notice that DK Neutral B doesn’t put him in freefall. Was that true in 4? I can’t remember.

I noted that earlier. It did.

Also, I feel like I’ve got a good grasp on Ridley now. He’s a big body who traded traditional good hitboxes for speed and damage. He hits hard but freaking Mario has longer limbs and better hitboxes. I’m thoroughly unimpressed by the existing footage.

Buffs are fine up to a point. Everyone being as good as Bayonetta would just lead to… a very broken game. Everyone would be broken, but it would still be kind of a mess and chase off casual players.

That said, most of the buffs we’ve seen so far have been very smart and were necessary. Zelda and Little Mac needed a LOT of help. I’m glad to see bad characters start to get good things now.

Bayo nerfs:

Side B on the ground no longer passes through characters on block. You also can’t do the kick.

Witch Time vulnerability increased. Bayonetta’s vulnerable even for a few frames after she resets to neutral.

BTW NAKAT’s video’s are all about labbing so they’re really informative

EDIT: Fox’s Side B same as Bayo’s

I agree that overbuffing is a stupid idea, but if I were to choose between a game where eveyone is weak and a game where everyone is broken, I would choose the second option without a doubt. You can say that Marvel 3 is broken all you want and would agree, but no one can deny that the game brought very hype moments. Some other games which a lot of “broken” things are played even up to this day.

About chasing off casual players… I dunno. Depends which type of casuals you are referring to. The people that plays FFA with items on in any stage wouldn’t care about this type of thing. At least that’s what I consider a casual player.

It would appear it is time to make my return.

I disagree about broken stuff chasing away casuals because they will generally have a hard time abusing most stuff.

One of the most well loved casual fighting games is MvC2, it allows them to just do stuff. Or look at Soul Calibur 2, all of the characters in that game are very strong compared to the rest of the soul series that followed but almost anyone I’ve talked to that has played 2 prefers the gameplay.

Buff characters tend to be fun, people would rather play a broken game with buff characters than a balanced game with weak ones.

“Ike is cheap” should tell us all we need to know about how casual players get chased off by things they view as overpowered. Ike is, of course, not cheap or overpowered. They nonetheless perceived him to be so and I know some folks who left over it.

By the way, @EmblemLord will you be joining us on the Discord? Probably easier to set up matchmaking there.

Yeah, I’m down.

Well, if casuals gets frustated an quits the game because a character that is clearly not very good in a game that almost everyone is weak (Brawl) that’s even more reason to not listen to them when it comes to balance changes.

Hey @EmblemLord , you willing to send your friend code over so we can have things in place for launch day as far as matchmaking goes?

Added in a couple new changes based on stuff I’ve seen in the Treehouse footage:

Ice Climbers
Confirmed Nana cannot grab or act during grabs
Dsmash: Popo/Nana each swing a different direction; only one direction without Nana
Uair: Upward swing instead of just raising the hammers; seems stronger
(>B): Now has a final hit at the end of the spin (only with Nana?)
(vB): Both face the same way; freeze lasts longer and does not launch upward

Sheik
Run speed increased (on par with Little Mac)
(^B): Now has a hitbox when she reappears

Zelda
New dash animation; much faster
(-B): seems to cover a smaller area

Ivysaur
New dash attack and Nair

Sonic
Slide recovery animation after rolling (aesthetic?)
New dash attack

EDIT:
Mewtwo
New animations on all tilts
(vB): now shoots an actual beam from the eyes

They killed IC’s chain grabbing? Noooooooooo…
