Buying Skullgirls will be supporting Skullgirls, a PC fighter. If that distinction isn’t enough, note that LabZero is in a different position than the larger companies.
Capcom’s arse-tastic handling of PC ports can be attributed to monumentally bad decision-making and poor development practices. Not only do they have a third party do the port job, but they have the third party do a bare-bones port job and call it a day. They also botched Steam integration.
ArcSystemWorks’ PC problems stem from the same problem. They banked on Zen United for their single recent PC foray. They ran into the same issues. They ended after Calamity Trigger after the most unwanted release of a fighting game on PC ever (They released CT after CS had come out on console).
I don’t know what the hell happens when Japanese developers hand over their games to be ported, but to me it sounds like they offload it, invest as little as possible, then close their eyes and wait for their customer base to die out. I don’t see them coming around anytime soon, regardless of how much money they take in.
LabZero isn’t in a situation where they’re offloading their game to a third party. That’s going to help immensely as far as patches are concerned. I also have no idea what’s wrong with Capcom that they keep botching the submission process every single time they need to patch a fighter. Skullgirls just needs to take in enough revenue to keep LabZero’s boat afloat, and I imagine the PC should get timely updates, provided they don’t run into the same PC storefront DLC integration that Capcom fails so utterly hard at.
This means if Skullgirls sells well, it’s more likely to DO well, on console and on PC, in regards to future updates, especially when compared to other fighters on the market. If Microsoft continues it’s asinine delays on theoretical future releases, you’d end up getting future patches and content on PC before they drop on 360, since MikeZ has made it pretty clear that as soon as stuff is ready it goes out the door (This might change depending on Autumn, though).
And in this article explaining about the x360 patch version delay talks about the lay off the team of skullgirls, forming this labzerogames now, that influences the PC version delay.
I still find myself flabbergasted that patch-size is an issue in 2012/13. We pay monthly to play online -which in itself is absolutely laughable- and then we aren’t even delivered a patch because “too big”? Really?
I’m a stupid 09’er and already I have fuckin’ had it with all of this garbage, how are people dealing with this shit for years upon years? SMH. Last generation of consoles that I am a part of. #pitchforks
Huh? This sounds like they are around 8 months late with their news… It’s not different by even a letter from what was said back then. I don’t really think their release date is credible at all, since it has been changed like 5 times now on these sites.
Eventhubs news are old news, the game is in preorder status since June and we know about the Steamworks thing since then too and I think they said the crossplatform thing like an idea in first place.
Its best they forget about cross plataform even if it is possible to speed up a little, concentrate on the core, forget about the extras. Just wanted them to put more guys in the port now that the patch is out for PSN, but dont know if the stupid things microsoft want for the patch to be published needs to reprogram something…
Don’t be silly. I’d much rather they take their time and get every aspect of it right, including cross-platform play and any other additional content they may be keeping a surprise.
‘A deal is being made so that we can start working on the PC port. I had worked on the patch for PS3 for free, and am doing so for 360 as well, but more than myself is needed for the PC port. So it’s like we’re somewhere but going nowhere? Or we’re at the steps to go somewhere? I can’t say anymore because of the NDA.’
