While I don’t believe PC users should get something just because it’s out later, I do understand how annoying it is for people who paid the $15 for a pre-order expecting the game to drop 2 months ago and now being told it won’t be out till next year at the earliest. Yes I know they get a free DLC pack for pre-ordering anyway, but cut em some slack. They’re currently down $15 without any indication when they’ll be getting what’s sort of owed them.
oh, crap that pre-order thing completely slip out of my head. I guess it was really unwise from whoever decision it was to strike deals with retailers when game was in such unstable status… =[
this situation is not good
Why the heck would you ever pre-order a game that’s planned for digital distribution before the people making the game say it’s ready and you should? It’s not like you’re reserving a physical copy. It’s not like there are physical copies that can run out. It’s not like the money is even going to help the studio or publisher! You’re giving an interest-free indefinite-term loan to some leech in the middle of the system. Heck, sometimes you’re just giving them a gift, when the game doesn’t come out, or you forgot you pre-ordered.
There are like 0 positives and unlimited negatives. It’s the consumer equivalent of whiffing a really slow move next to Cerebella.
No. No slack. Plenty of folks here bought PSN / XBLA cards without knowing when the game was going to drop but no one was screaming for redemption after the game was delayed multiple times. Plus it’s fifteen dollars. FIFTEEN DOLLARS. Even at minimum wage that’s two hours of work. If you’re so financially burdened that pre ordering this game left you that much worse off than shame on you, you have bigger problems to worry about than when the PC port is dropping.
There’s absolutely no reason to slash the base price of the game. A 10%-off prepurchase bonus would make sense from a marketing standpoint, but that has nothing to do with the delayed release. It’s still very much a marketable title, and there’s no reason to charge less for a game this polished.
By committing to a purchase on release-day, you’re saying you’ll forgo potential discounts of later releases for the ability to preload a copy and play as soon as it goes live. Preorders/purchases only go up on digital store-fronts a month before launch.
For marketing, it’s great, because it gives the developer a chance to take your money as soon as you’re hyped enough to commit (So they can market at leisure and not worry about getting people hyped just at launch or after launch), and it’s nice for players because they get added bonuses (10% off? DLC colours? FLAC Soundtrack by Yamane O:?) and the chance to preload the game.
Either way, I don’t know what Autumn and Lab Zero knows. They’re the ones have the numbers and experience that will decide what’s best for title sales, and by association of that, the future of Skullgirls and it’s players.
I have no idea why anyone on this forum is asking for a price drop. I would easily spend $45 on this game in a heartbeat, and most of you would easily get that much worth out of the title. Get a jorb.
Actually, this is what c_wraith was talking about.
Origin (and Gamer’s Gate) have allowed you to preorder Skullgirls for PC for months now, despite the fact that Autumn/Lab Zero have never given us a concrete release date, and haven’t finished making the port.
I doubt his problem is with preorders in general, just with preordering games that don’t yet exist. I expect this is also the reason why Steam doesn’t have a listing for Skullgirls yet, they’re not trying to sell you something until they can be sure they can deliver the actual product to you.
Haha. Oh. Yes. That is silly. Who would buy that? The only reason would be to support the developer in some altruistic fashion, but if that’s the case, you shouldn’t care if you got the game on time or not, just that the project is still moving ahead as fast as possible.
I prefer Steam’s way of doing things. Stops prepurchases from becoming a “Me too” thing that devalues the entire system.
The problem is guys who paid probably weren’t aware of all the troubles game had atm (Peter actually stated that he knows nothing about this stuff) so they didn’t know that they were supposed to question those pre-order deals =/
I like the quick retreat to ad hominem in the shadow of a (indefinitely) delayed game that has been a commercial failure and remains irrelevant in the larger community.
Word to the wise, you can get refunds for pre-orders at Gamersgate, GMG and Steam as long as you have not received a game key. Anyone who’d rather have their $15 back just out of principle should consider this. It takes 2 minutes to put in the request.
And that in itself should void any complaint anyone has about not getting the game yet despite dropping the fifteen bones.
I completely agree. There’s no reason to be pining over this game anymore for PC gamers in any case. It’s already failed and its audience has been reduced to the most desperately niche.
The $15 digital game market is pretty big. Considering the amount of investment required to port to PC versus initial development, it’s a great idea. It’s no longer catering to the Fighting Game market, but Steam Hipsters.
Kay.
What are Steam Hipsters? o_O
You have to actually make a PC game and then put it on Steam to cater to the Steam hipsters.
I’m not sure where you’re going with this. The PC version is confirmed to be in development and slated for early 2013.
There is a huge market for “indie-like” titles that hover around the $10 to $15 dollar mark on services like Steam. People will nab up games on that service even if they aren’t so interested in the genre. Worst case, the game goes on sale, and revenue shoots through the roof with a tens of thousands of $7.50 copies of SG.
Steam Hipsters is a slur for people who buy stuff on that service just because it comes from an independent label.
I am not really seeing the issue here, not enough to warrant said people to get their own name anyway .
Duke Nukem Forever was confirmed to be in development and slated for “a release next year” for a decade and a half. And ended better than this IP is likely to.
I’m working towards a GameDev diploma, I’m surrounded by them. It’s skewing my perceptions. -_-;
Haha. You best be trolling. Pretty sure Lab Zero isn’t going to jettison the entirety of their game engine and assets into the nether five separate times. They’re doing a port, not full development.
Guy is keeping post that this game is not existing for him and it’s the only thing he’s doing on SRK. What else can you call his activity? >_>
Ignored for a while now.
