I love these kinds of posts. We’re clearly reading their forums and they’re clearly reading ours, but we’re still talking about them like they’re not reading. It’s like talking really loudly in a party behind someone’s back because you know they’re listening to you and you want to make sure they hear.

A bit over 11k was raised tonight without any matching being done. That’s pretty impressive.
And by tomorrow morning, the Melee community will know exactly how much money they have to raise to get ahead of us again. All we’ve actually achieved is that we’ve painted a target on this community’s forehead.
If you think that target ever left then you’re not thinking straight. I really doubt they would’ve gotten totally complacent no matter what happened.
So what’s the best thing to do?
Keep going. It’s not over until 11:59PM PST on Janurary 31st. That’s six more days. Sitting back and going ‘Welp, that’s all we can get done’ is just gone piss down
all the effort done so far. Take it down to the wire if you really want it to happen. That’s how you prove you REALLY want in.

The thing is that the Smash guys are even more Fucking Serious about getting their game into EVO than we are – and they seem to have a personnel advantage on us. Compare the size of the two communities, and then come back and tell me you don’t think they can keep up with us.
All I’m saying is that when it comes to games, there’s many a time I’ve known the pain of high expectations gone unfulfilled. I’m not going to raise them yet again.
Oh, probably.
So the question you have to ask yourself now is: You just gonna give up?
Just to say, if you Skullguys don’t think, whatever happens, you’ve made a hell of a statement you’re wrong. You’ve surprised a lot of people with the amount you’ve raised, you’ve raised the profile of your game, and you’ve generally done good.
Hell, given the response to the Evo drive on 8wayrun I’m gonna make another donation - for this game!
Dude all I see is “we should give up”. Your literally going through the mindset I had (just less melodramatic). The moment you doubt this, it’s all over.
We are just as serious as they are and we aren’t going down without a fight. They are right now rivaling a game that isn’t even a year old, that is a HUGE ass statement.
Also like to point out that smash has more to prove, at least that’s what most smashers believe
You guys already have a game with basics accepted by FGC and of the kind that typically get huge sponsors and you’re only a year old
You’re pretty much set for a wider-spread playerbase in the future, you just need to play the game, introduce people from the FGC, and wait (and have your d00ds update the game!)
melee is 12 years old with a bigger community and we don’t get that, getting people used to other fighting games to play melee serious is hard when they pretty much have to throw away all technical fundamentals, and lots of gameplay based ones too.
He’s right you know, I bought the game (on xbox, no ps3 because xbox is masterrace for everything but skullgirls) just because I saw how well you guys were competing with us. Winning isn’t the only way to gain from this drive, being a good example is really fucking effective too.

Don’t overlook the side effects of our efforts.
Let’s ride this publicity and attention, use it to get people to attend events/gatherings or bring SG to events/gatherings. Weeklies, bi weekly, monthly, bimonthly, or just long casual sessions. Whatever and whenever it’s good for your SG scene. Even do some SG stuff that isn’t fighting game related if you feel like.
This proves there’s people that like SG and willing to support it. Even if they like watching others play or enjoy playing not seriously, they can and should show up.
