Kinuko’s art seems kind of lazy. Like it’s just, “we need something Evo-related, whip something up and make it quick”. I think people might be put off by that.
You know what she should’ve done? She should’ve done like one of those “anniversary image” dealies for large game series with every character squished in, like one of those Megaman anniversary images. Something that encompasses the entire world of Skullgirls and all its lore, while also being related to the topic (in this case, Evo). That image is just Skullgirls + Evo in the most basic and unimaginative way.
Just Me? Not necessarily… but I’m not gonna get into the details right now.
Edit: Also that Melee donation stream was a planned and organized event from the folks at SmashBoards. I highly doubt one can get the same amount of composure during a sudden confusion when the clock is ticking, no matter the size of the community, in fact the bigger the group the harder it is to control during chaos.
If i were them, then they would simply setup another donation stream near the end of the contest as a precaution for this. That sounds like a good idea, but not foolproof. Staying at 1st place has its disadvantages
Hypothetically, if there’s no more sniping and every game keeps getting donations at the same rate they have been, doesn’t that mean that in two weeks Melee will still be TEN THOUSAND GODDAMNED DOLLARS ahead of SG?
Unless one of us wins the lottery, they have a lock on it. Fuck it all.
I wouldn’t worry so much about losing, really. Smash will go to EVO, stream monsters will monster, and then after EVO the community at large will go back to ignoring Smash.
Oh yes hypothetically, if we all accept it as a hopeless situation and give up then we are already lost this moment, never-mind the deadline. Relying on luck is an excuse. World is full of possibilities. Just have to think calmly and be creative with your decisions
And meanwhile more and more people will start buying into the “Skullgirls is a dead game” horseshit, to the point that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. See? They’ve got no community left, they couldn’t even get into EVO. It’s obviously a piece of shit. Don’t waste your time.
If there was any consolation, the Melee crowd at Smashboards recognized this game(Alot of them never heard of Skullgirls and had to look it up) since we were the only competitor so far when they expected games such as Fim, Third Strike, or Guilty Gear to be their main opponents. We generated a fair amount of attention by showing this game has a community that cares so we can’t say we are exactly back where we started in the worse case scenario we lose
Well, flip that around. A lot of them were probably thinking what I would have thought in their position: “If it’s such a good game, how come this is the first time I’ve ever heard of it?”
Except for the fact that Skullgirls IS a dead game. There’s nothing happening for it, there are few if any tournaments that have SG in them, the game’s team is in dire straits, and its community is fractured. Getting on the main stage at Evo is their lone chance at rising like a phoenix from the ashes. Losing this will be the final nail in the game’s coffin.
I’m not that pessimistic. Things go nowhere like that. Although i see being too Optimistic useless as well depending on the circumstance. What we can do however is acknowledge what they have accomplished and at least try to overcome the hurdle
For example Smashboards may think we got this Big Snipe donation planned. We can say we do or don’t to them ,but that doesn’t change anything and they will do there best to maintain there dominance with steady donations to play it safe. We just do what we have to do. This is also for Breast Cancer funds so the fact that we gave a good fight and achieved 5k so far is nothing to sneeze at as well when we compare the runnings to the other games
People are going to say this for sure, but not anyone who matters. The fact that SG raised over 5k is going to get mentioned. I think it already proves that this game is very much alive. I also feel that there is still plenty of time for us to raise more.
I could understand giving up if this all wasn’t for a good cause. As of now, I say we keep it going. Everyone donate what they can and promote the shit out of this. If Skullgirls can get to 10k, that would be awesome.
I Change my AV sporadically, my last one was because of College Football lol
Edit: Also the word “Everyone” keeps getting thrown around casually in conversation to be taken seriously anymore. People like what they want to like. That can’t be helped. Instead of bothering what other people think, just enjoy gaming with people that share your common interest
SG couldn’t pay its way into Evo, it’s dead? Even though it will finish 2nd/3rd overall at this rate, with over $5k at least? Yeah, that makes sense. The only people who will continue to say “SG is dead” are idiots. What will make it a self-fulfilling prophecy is if attendance numbers remain between 10-15 participants like they’ve been for a while. People keep trying to shut out smash but they keep going, why cant SG do the same? If it had like, no donations at all then it would make sense.
Maybe stream monsters rly do rule the world now. =/
A bunch of Melee players threw together an livestream/podcast with 250+ viewers who were supposedly getting their donations matched triple but the livestream runners only donated 3k because the cap was hit in a matter of minutes. That’s not one person, that’s a huge organized community effort and everybody else who wants their game in should be taking notes fast instead of bitching and whining.
For all you Skullgirls players, the conclusion of James Chen’s Evo 2007 blog is strangely relevant today.
