Let’s go, Skullgirls! We got this.
Well, this thread is quite an interesting read.
On topic though, we just need to spread the word. One of the tumblr posts only has 50 notes. I know guitalex/ravid has been doing some word spreading, and I think we’ve benefited greatly! If everyone did that, imagine how good we could fare? And we just have to make sure we don’t shut up about this during Salty Cupcakes.
If either game wins, I’ll be happy. But hey,
gogogo Skullgirls
(lol, successfully guessed my own email and password from years ago in order to come here)
Anyway, message from Cheeri-oats over at Smashboards:
I was already going to donate during tomorrow’s Melee It On Me stream, BUT in order to show that there is no ill-will between our community and the SkullGirls community, and also in order to support indie fighting game development, I will donate an additional $100 towards Melee IF we host SkullGirls or Divekick at Genesis 3.
I’ll say it again:
I’ll donate an additional $100 towards Melee’s appearance at EVO, if we can guarantee an indie-developed game (SkullGirls or Divekick) featured at our next Smash Major (Genesis 3).
Apologies for the awkward highlighting but it just copypasted like that, don’t feel like finding the highlight option.
-Life, SWF
Tell me about it.
holy shit
I saw this (I hope I don’t feel like a stalker, but now that I have developed a huge ton of respect for the smash community and the fact that even though they still want to be at Evo, they want to help SkullGirls thrive and I am curious to see how they do that) and I totally approve of this idea (though I doubt I would be able to attend since traveling…is kind of out of the question due to my job. I’ll be lucky if I can even make it to evo fully).
Melee player here, just wanted to drop in and say I’m a huge fan of Skullgirls, I think it’s a super legit game.
Unfortunately, this is a competition. Regardless of the competition, I think that having malice is an extremely illogical stance to take. To the people acting like it was easy to keep our community alive for as long as it’s been alive (and still thriving), you are sadly mistaken. EVO is a huge opportunity for both communities to spread out and gain a new following. We are also not a bunch of rich kids. I’ve donated $150 dollars to Melee and it was not a decision I made easily and without sacrafice. I’m doing it not for breast cancer (though that is a good cause), but because I want to see the game I love in EVO.
I play DBZ Budokai 3 competitively with a group of friends. As far as I know I’m the best in the world, since no community exists for that game to my knowledge. If I thought that it was better (or more deserving) than Skullgirls to be in EVO, I wouldn’t suddenly start crying about the fact that the community is small and we are being beaten by the bigger community.
I’d rally the troops, I’d spread my love for the game, and I’d work my ass off to, if not win the spot, make the community larger. Get more people excited. Feeling sorry for yourselves won’t accomplish anything. Blaming Melee for having a large community when all we are doing is playing by the rules of the donation drive is nothing short of idiocy. Yes, we have people passionate about the game. If that’s not what this is all about, then what is it about? We aren’t going to back down because times are tough for you guys. Times were tough for Smash for a long time, and we kept our game alive for 12 YEARS. If we can do it, anyone can do it, so quit making excuses for yourselves.
We’re coming for you Skullgirls. Step up your game.
When was this supposed to create ill will? Its just two groups donating money to there preferred game ultimately helping the fight against breast cancer. When did things escalate that quickly?
How about this. If SG breaks 4000 by tomorrow, I’ll throw in another 50 from what little I have in my savings. Get the word out there. Get your family and friends to donate.
Thank you for your words. I understand it was personally my fault for causing the things that happened, and I realized that I almost broke our moral.
I was scared by the fact that the smash community will get that 4300 by the end of tomorrow, I let fear get to me. Seeing things with a brighter light now, it seems that I almost let myself give up too early. We still have 14 days left, and even if you do get up to 7000+, I’m confident that our community, with the right idea to spread the word around, will most likely catch up to you guys.
We as the SkullGirls community will fight for this game till the end, and we will work as hard as we can to achieve victory. Smash Bros Community, you may win the battle, but you haven’t won the war.
SkullGirls Community! LET US CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR SKULLGIRLS FUTURE! DON’T GIVE UP! THE BATTLE IS NOT OVER TILL THE FINAL MINUTE PASSES!
but lets promise that…whoever does win…we can at least stay allies and support each other…no matter what…k?

Created by Euro SmashPlayer it apparently updates every half hour on the current donation standings
You seem to have forgotten that you’re on the internet.
This is everything Mike Z created the game for, he had the main stage at Evo in mind when he was designing it.
Seriously, he’s going to take an axe to his own ribcage if this doesn’t work out, so you better get throwing those bills at the screen.
10/10
Good shit man. Who do you play in Budokai?
No worries. We got that covered.
I seriously could not stop thinking about this and had to get it out of my head so have some DIAMOND DYNAMOOOOSHITICANTMAKEGIFS
Didn’t check out the thread until after work (late). Looks like a tornado swept through here lol. I can only imagine how crazy things might get towards the finale. Everything got neck and neck pretty quickly here. Looks like SG is right up with MLP now and Melee is only a few hundred behind. I’m still hoping MLP will manage to stick in 1st since it would mean an additional game gets some main stage and stream action without changing anything else. Either way, looks like all three are going to pull in some pretty big bucks for Cancer research.
Please spoiler that dear god.
Yeah it was quite the show that happened…you could say I was the source of it. Luckily it seems to have settled and we are back to trying to just raise money and hopefully not cause any more trouble.
Donating to breast cancer reasearch… that’s all that should matter right?
