Hori Commander Pro, or those Capcom Fightpads should work out, the only thing that should be hard for pad players depending on their config is doing Doubles Subzero Slide since its Back+(LK+HK)
LK+HK doesn’t seem too bad since you can press A+Bumper (X360) at the same time. But sometimes what’s easy for one person is hard for another. I can do an FADC on a controller easily in SF4, but it’s hard for my cousin.
Does this game ever have to use 3p(PPP) or 3k?
I use Hori Commander Pro and I swap my Left Bumpers with my Right Bumpers so it just feels weird for now cause the point was to have all 8 buttons on one side
No it doesn’t its a type in the tutorial
Since all relevant combos are chaincombos, it should be very possible to play this game on a pad.
I have not the compare to MvC2 as you mentioned, perhaps it’s easier there.
But compared to SF4, skullgirls should be much more padfriendly, cause there aren’t (?) a lot of link combos (as far as I know, the most relevant combos I do contain chaincanceled moves).
In SF4 you really are kind of forced to use plinking in every opportunity, which is not really possible on a pad, but still a lot of people play SF4 on a pad.
-> So yes, skullgirls is playable on a pad.
(I myself play every game on an arcade stick, I would highly recommend it, it doesn’t make you automatically to a better player, it in contrary, even need a hell of time (1 month, perhaps 2) to get fully used to it. But after that you can use advanced techniques naturally without thinking and… it makes a hell of a lot more fun).
I call b.s. on the title.
I’m playing this game on a Madcatz WWE Allstars pad and outside of my slightly average execution & ass internet, the game defintely playable with a pad!!
Become very good with SSF4 Juri on pad and playing pad will never be a problem in a fighter ever again.
um just use the default button layout. omg i have to use R buttons for heavy attacks my life is overrrrr
What’s the difference between Skullgirls and AE? Both games are 6 buttons layout and both game has macros. However, you’ll need all buttons because of the assist. Overall, it feels fine with me on a PS3 pad. No issue here.
Pad works, minus one caveat: You probably won’t be able to play a Double/Peacock/X 3v3 team:
-If you’re playing a 2v2 or 3v3 on pad, you’ll be macroing your assists since diagonals are no fun on pad. That’s one to two dedicated triggers right off the bat.
-If you’re playing Double, Back+LK+HK won’t work on a typical fightpad layout; you’ll need HK or a macro for it mapped to a trigger.
-The Big One: Peacock’s Held 214P is just a miserable experience for your thumb. That move was made for five fingers, not one.
If you are a masochist, you can get around most of this by putting MP and HP on triggers and LK+HK next to each other on the face (e.g. B+Y for the 360), but that kind of layout is not even slightly intuitive and still leaves Peacock’s 214LP being a little hard to deal with.
It’s not a deal-breaker by any means since this game is already forgiving in several other aspects (PP/KK over PPP/KKK, safe 360s, etc.), but Pad Peacock/Double character specialists might have to get creative.
… I am doing just fine on my PS3 controller with Peacock and Valentine. And I use the Analog stick!!
I’m getting good using pad. Given unlike Marvel I am not saying “yea I’m perfectly fine using pad”. This is the first game that has almost made that 150 bucks get spent but since I’m not made of money and i’m at university I decided “well lets do some configuring” and I just set the controls almost to the control setup fo SSFIV and I’ve been rocking it pretty good I must say, though trying to go back and play Marvel with friends is KILLING me becuase I keep doing Peacocks magics accidentally lol
but yea, my advice, go the marvel route and map your assists to the shoulders (though tagging is hard for me so I only use 1 or 2 characters at MOST)
Hate to bring back a slightly old thread but I say get a 6 button pad and force yourself to learn 3-finger claw grip if you’re willing. My execution leaped with fighting games in general once I got comfortable with claw grip. I couldn’t give up the easy command motion execution of a directional pad…but I knew my thumb was limiting me on the button side, so being able to use my fingers has given me the best of both worlds. I alternate between the Hori Fight Commander Pro 3 and the Madcatz street fighter 4 pad depending on the game. Took me about a month on and off to learn claw grip but it was worth it.
And oh…macro the dash to one of the triggers if you do decide to take up this technique. Calling assists on pad isn’t that big of a deal once you can use your fingers.
You can get the WWE Brawlstick for $30 if your local Gamestop has any left. I’ve heard some people got theirs used for $15.
Speaking of pads, my fellow pad players, how the hell do you guys manage to do Roundhouse on the same side as fierce? That’s fucking nuts.
I always keep Fierce and roundhouse seperate but those deault controls would swear it’s not wierd to keep them together.
I play with a PS3 pad and I had no problems. I dash with the pad so no need to set a marco for that.
It’s easy for people who are coming from SF4, three or four years now of playing that way. Its the standard for Type-A controls in any 6 button Capcom fighter.
Where to get those fightpads?
Super easy for me and I’m doing combos with Parasoul like it’s nothing!
Hearing that from you makes me feel much better Soriphen. You’ve certainly been contributing fantastic stuff to the community. Out of curiosity, what button layout are you using? It was incredibly hard for me at first and I was incredibly cynical about being able to learn on pad (especially with only 2 shortcuts), largely in part because this is my first 6 button fighter, but I’m making the transition and I’m not having too many problems. Honestly, I’m proud of the BnBs I’m able to perform at this rate considering this is my first 6 button fighter.
If anyone is curious I’m using the following on a PS3 Dualshock Controller.
L1 = Light Punch
R1 = Medium Punch
X = Heavy Punch
Square = Light Kick
Triangle = Medium Kick
Circle = Heavy Punch
R2 and L2 are shortcuts for assists.
Pretty sure Mike Z recommended this in the Questions and Answers thread on day one. I tried a lot of stuff and this really stuck.
