Well my first game was SF 2 turbo which got me hooked on fighting games since then, but I didn’t get too serious with it then. The first fighting game I really studied and enjoyed was Xmen vs Street Fighter. It was my first marvel game and that shit had me hooked. I mean the combo system just blow my mind away and it had Cammy and Magneto two of my all time favorite rush down characters every. Then after awhile of playing other fighting games nothing else really had me interested for a long time. I really didn’t like the alpha series and although there was others I did enjoy nothing else really grabbed a hold of me and all the other marvel games didn’t have characters I liked too much. Then CVS 2 came out and I was hooked all over again even though I didn’t play any of the SNK games I really enjoyed playing that game. It was very fun learning all of the ins and outs of that game and all the way grooves worked. It still is one of my favorite game of all time. Then the Holy Grail came out in 2001 Marvel VS Capcom 2 just the size of the roster was enough to blow my young mind plus the assist system plus the combo engine not to mention they had 2 of my favorite RTSD character and my favorite comic book character ( Ironman btw). That was the game I took the most serious and really buckled down to learn and take my game to the next level. I also enjoyed SC2 and TTT alot and going to start learning KOF 13 and Vampire Savior ( Yea Im late sue me…).
Now that the history lesson is over with I first heard about Skullgirls in Aug. or Sept. and decided to check out the EVO vids. After seeing those I was liking how the game looked and played and when I heard Filia was going to be like one of my beloved RTSD characters I wanted to really check her out and was loving what I saw with her. So I decided to dig deeper and learn more about the game and thats when the obsession and stalking of the forums started. Now when I first started lurking the forum a few things caught my attention. One of the biggest was that the people here seemed to really love fighting as much as me and some even more I mean they was asking questions that was going over my head but what really reeled me in was seeing Mike Z come and answer those question in a very detailed response if he could and that was what I loved. I mean it didn’t matter what game you was asking about he just gave straight and honest answers and really proved he was making a deep game that could compare to that crack that was Mahvel 2 and how disappointed at how Marvel 3 ended up being for me I couldn’t wait to get a game that really really compared to it I mean being completely honest TVC feels more like a Mahvel game then MVC 3. So since then i’ve been watching and downloading every FNF video and trying to learn as much as I can before this game is comes out so I can once again bury myself and learn this game like I did Mahvel 2 and CVS 2.
Oh and my favorite characters of this game is Filia because I really interested in her backstory. It like she is a simple and somewhat clinched character but with the references to her past that other characters make toward her makes me really wanting what exactly she did before Samson attached himself to her and also why did he choose her. It feels like she was part of something big. Also her and Valentine are the only ones with red eyes that I seen anyway which makes me think they are related in some way blood or not. And I don’t appreciate you calling her chubby or Fatneto Firebranded lol
I’m super hype for pretty much everyone, what can I say. Even plain-jane Filia at least fits my playstyle of RTSD. If Marie winds up being a Dizzy/Rachel-esque oki heavy zoner/rushdown hybrid type, I’ll be all all over her. Design-wise I can’t fucking wait for Squigs. I must have a thing for undead girls with stuff through their heads…
Also, can I say how nice it is to watch the post count on that “omg sexism” thread skyrocket and not have to be subjected to it?
Well I’ve always liked fighting games, but never played them competitively. Of course if I had known that a scene existed I probably would have lol. I didn’t even know about it till SF4. I can’t say I ever had the arcade experience, only arcade I ever went to was a nickel arcade, and it took them forever to get mvc1 and 2. Neither of those ever worked either because people mashed the crap out of them and a button or direction was always out of order. So I was robbed of the MvC experience, which is a shame because I always wanted to play it, but never could properly. I remember trying to learn my characters while avoiding the other guys mash, and with left AND up on the stick not working. That didn’t go too well.
So that aside, I played a TON of DoA 3, SC2/3, and Smash 64/Melee with friends. Never really got into Street Fighter until 4. Had I known 3rd Strike existed I probably would have liked that (nickel arcade never had that). When SF4 came out, I was intrigued, and I always wanted to get into fighting games more. So I picked it up, and discovered the fun that is fighting games, which led to finding out about a community. I want to play competitively (mostly for the fun of it/excuse to get out to events), but it hasn’t been a great year and there ain’t no money to be found. Hopefully that’ll change soon so I can start heading out to WNF and UCI Fight Nights. I need to play against real people, damn it. Online agitates me D: . I’d also like to be able to support the SG scene/events as well.
Edit: ALSO, hype for Peacock, Val, and Painwheel. I plan on playing a two man team with Peacock on the end at all times. We’ll see who makes the cut regarding Val and Painwheel. I love Peacock as a character too much to let her go. Like many people, I grew up fond of cartoons, especially the old crazy Looney Toons crap.
It says Glorg and a Gloob, and it’s another Futurama reference.
All you people who felt like big men for understanding the Omicron Persei one, that was kindergarten. REAL TALK.
Alundra (PS1 action RPG). Likely my favorite RPG of all time for every possible reason, with Valkyrie Profile being 2nd. Didn’t really contribute to SG.
Tetris Attack (go PLAY it if you don’t know what it is, and we won’t see you for a month). My second favorite game of all time because it is the fastest, fairest versus puzzle game ever created. Didn’t really contribute to SG.
Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (sandbox superhero amaze-fest). The most fun I have ever had with any superhero game including the Arkham Asylum series. Didn’t really contribute to SG.
If you meant fighting games, which is pretty likely, then…some other time. I’d rather get people to go play these great games. >:^)
Let me guess - your favorite fighting games are Marvel 2 (obviously), X-Men VS Street Fighter (the one game that really made you fall in love with fighting games, mostly due to its flexible combo system), Third Strike (which inspired some of SG’s gameplay mechanics, such as the timing for throw escapes), and surprisingly enough, One Must Fall 2097 (which actually inspired the creation of SG’s infinite prevention system).
I started in 2008. These are/were my main tournament games:
3s (sa3 ken… I tried to play sa1 ibuki at first) ->
sf4 series (sagat then ibuki) ->
mvc2 (megaman/cable/sentinel ground type, if we play low tiers according to the XBL/PSN tournament rules, then megaman/bb hood/juggernaut) ->
mvc3 (sentinel/wesker/haggar) ->
umvc3 (ryu/sent/wesker)
i kept playing mvc2 on the side for a little while after 3 dropped but the community wasn’t there… i always always wish I had played it instead of shitty 3s before sf4. I may not be oldschool mvc2 but I love it more than anything, that is the game I love the most.
I’ve entered tournaments in these two on and off:
I love GGAC but it has always been a side thing because of various reasons usually not having a solid scene or a working PS2 stick… I wish I had played it or MvC2 instead of shitty 3s.
with tekken 6 I love it but I’m in this town our best player and I suck so… yeah.
I think MvC3 series is a good game that has some flaws. I know it has some serious serious problems but I love assist and pushblock too much to give a shit even if it isn’t the same as 2. I used to be one of the biggest biggest haters of MvC3 until Raekwon187 (an old school mvc2 and guilty gear player, he even went to SBO with his Potemkin one year) convinced me that MvC3 is a solid game once you learn enough about it and now i think he’s right.
The games I love in order are
MvC2
MVC3
Tekken 6: BR (bryan fury)
GGAC (roboky)
I’m even worse at these games than tekken or ggac but I like them a lot:
Chaos Breaker (evetta/orc/cursehead) …I know its bad but it has sooo many cool ideas
ST (o. sagat, cammy, o. ken)
Pre-MVC2 vs series (megaman/strider on mvc1, rogue/jugg on xvsf, sentinel on cota etc)
Vsav (bb hood)
AH3 (saki)
soul calibur 5 seems pretty cool but i haven’t made decision yet on if i like it.
I played skullgirls quite a bit at season’s beatings 2010 and fillia vs fillia was amazing even tho she was the only char.
my favorite fighting game characters are megaman, sentinel, robo-ky, and wesker
I’ve been playing FGs since the SFII days. I always ha a pretty good grasp on them, but there was little competition back then in my city, so I mostly played for fun. I started to really compete with emulators and stuff like Kaileera and 2DF/GGPO. I played a lot of XvSF and MvC1 back in those days, I have very little MvC2 experience as by the time the game came out my arcade scene was completely dead, I played MvC2 after the PSN release.
I’ve played many fgs and none surprises me so much as far as how fucking smart it is as SG. Man… Mike Zaimont you never stop impressing me nigga! Aesthetically this game was always appealing to me, I like girls, I like strong female characters, I like dark settings, I like creativity and let’s make sir mix-a-lot words mine. Anyone who understands a little about scenario and character writing/designing can see how creative, unique and full of life SG characters/universe is like.
I plan on playing Valentine/Cerebella for the time being. My favorite character design so far is Squigly, so I’ll add her later. I’m ready to play SG also competitively and hope that they will fit well with my playstyle. But I always practice with all characters in a game I like, it’s important to see match ups from another pov. Also there’s something about Valentine combos that reminds me so much of the jump loops/infinites in xvsf, they were the most satisfying loops I’ve ever done in fgs.
Maaaan, I can’t like you more, much love! Alundra is one of the greatest gems ever in RPGs. Everyone should play this game at least once. Mike Z… Y U SO GODLIKE!? That’s it, I’m buying you a round at Evo, my visa was approved and I’m good to go. o/
