First of all, I feel like I should point out that in chess, you don’t get to customize your pieces. Everyone goes into the game with the same set of pieces and the same arrangement. However, that’s not the reason I took issue with your analogy. There is an aspect of Pokemon that is quite detrimental to its competitiveness, that being the fact that certain things that happen in the game are completely out of the control of the players. There are lots of situations where there is a 10% or however much chance of a certain outcome, and it can easily have a huge effect on the rest of the battle. It’s a big problem that’s completely absent from chess and most other competitive games that I can think of. There are also other reasons that I don’t play the game anymore, but that’s the biggest issue in my opinion.
I don’t play chess. I’m more into… fighting games. I think those are pretty popular around here.

No, you misunderstood. I love pokemon, I find competitive pokemon to be pretty fancy and whatever else, but the analogy is just… so, so wrong in so many ways.
It’s not “like chess”. You don’t have complete information (even if you know his pokémons, you don’t know their skills), you don’t have the same pieces, you don’t have to “predict” anything in chess, the amount of thought involved in a pokémon match isn’t even 1% of a chess game, what do you even mean with “synergy” in a chess sense, and that whole comparison between Queen and Pawn is ass because you have BOTH, it’s not like you can decide whether you prefer to play with a pawn or with a queen, what is that even about… I give up, that whole post just doesn’t make one smidge of a sense.
