?? Learning every hitbox and every char specific combo/setup by heart is pretty much the exact opposite of “thinking on your feet”.
I guess I just don’t see it that way, especially there’s usually more variables in the positioning than just the character size.
Dat combo music.

Hey, speaking of trying to get people into fighting games, don’t you just hate when the first question is (at char select) “So who’s Good?” and then the last question is (halfway into match) “How do you block?” which is always followed by “I CAN’T GET THIS GUY TO DO ANY MOVES! HE TOTALLY SUCKS!”
And then they suggest that you change the game to Soul Calibur 4.
That’s me everytime I play UMvC3.
“Who has a good assist and isnt a bad character?”
Every time I try to get people to play fighting games, I usually spend the whole time explaining the QCF motion.
Or they ask something like, “How do you do a super?”
“Oh, it’s 236 236 AC.”
“What?!”
Random question: Skullgirls is going to be in WNF this week right?
About people trying to get a grasp at fighting games is really hard… my friends are COD fans and they hate playing against me even when I teach them how to play they would always bitch about how unfair my combos are…
So its pointless unless you actually care about getting better at the game…
I wish I had people to convince, almost all my gamer friends have their heads up all the major FPS’s asses.
The conversations usually go like this:
Friend: Dude you hear about any new games?
Me: yeah did you hear about Street fighter x tekken? They’re merging two of the biggest fighting game franch-
Friend: Gay
Me: You don’t even play fighting ga-
Friend: DUDE DID YOU HEAR MW3 HAS A NEW MAP PACK
Me: sigh
And the ones that aren’t FPS fanboys suck ass at them and I’m forced to go easy on them because they don’t even know how to do a shoryuken.
all I can really do is play randoms online or forum members from different fighting game sites.
Why would you use numberpad notation to explain a motion to someonewho doesn’t play fighting games and obviously wouldn’t know what sort of blimey was spilling from your gob?
Why is introducing people to QCF so haaaaard, what’s not to get?
I believe he was making a joke friend.
What?
Yea, explaining things in numerical notation isn’t the greatest way of easing someone into unfamiliar territory…
[Edit] Never mind, I see what you did there
People are dumb. If you think introducing qcf to your average fps gamer is rough, try introducing it to a sports gamer.
That sounds pretty gross.
my problem isn’t getting them to figure out the controls…
…Its not kicking their asses in the first couple of seconds.
Just pick characters you don’t know how to play with. >_>
its the exact same thing for me. the second i mentioned that the name of the game was skullgirls everyone just says "FAG!"
and goes on the play call of duty
Or how about someone who only plays point-and-click games. I had this friend who wanted me to teach her how to play Marvel. After 5 minutes, I had to shut up and just watch her mash buttons. I had to resort to using characters I didn’t even play and still ended up winning despite trying to give her every advantage while pretending to be serious. She only one once because I gave it to her out of pity. She still thinks it’s fun though.
I was playing Soul Calibur 5 with my friend yesterday and he kept getting salty everytime I did a Critical Edge.
“Dude how did you do that??”
“It’s like an ultra on Street Fighter. just do down, forward, down, forward, and then push A+B+K” (Thats as easy as I can explain it.)
“bruh, what is ABK? “
”…you know…the buttons”
“man, i dont know what you talking about. Take this fightstick away from me. That shit is for nerds”
“ok”(we swap controllers and I win 7 in a row)
“man this game suck. Killik aint even the same no more”
“ok”(continues to beat him)
