Oh yeah, it’s pretty much the most misunderstood genre in video games. You really have to come into interest on your own or simultaneously with someone else. I’ve had friends set down their controllers during my combos. And trying to “take it easy” on them doesn’t actually teach them anything. Inevitably I am informed that if I was really good I’d just pick* random* everytime.

Explaining inputs is difficult but not impossible. Explaining engine mechanics is pretty much futile though. It always starts with people thinking FGs are mindless button mashers and it ends with them being dismissed for being way too complicated and nerdy.

I know how to play everyone in MK9, EVERYONE.

and I know everyones commands in SSF4AE2012 though I don’t know how to play everyone, even then I could beat them by just using things like techs, grabs, overheads, sweeps, and air cross-ups or other things that are basically universal.

You don’t need to know how to use someone to fight with them, i’ve accidentally hit random countless times and been forced to learn commands by randomly inputing motions and button.

I ain’t great, but i’m good.

OH YEAH FIGHTSITCK = LOSER. When I first got my fightstick (or when anyone sees it who hasn’t yet) I was ridiculed for being a dork and for being a sucker for spending as much money on it as I did ($60). I tried to rationalize. I said DualShocks are 55, wiimote+nunchuck is 60 (and still can’t play everything!!) and DDR mats and Guitar Hero controllers cost just as much and can only be used for one game where as I can use the stick for shmups, arcade games, etc (not too mention on my PC as well as my consoles). Yet somehow a little toy plastic guitar for a game that let’s you pretend to play guitar is far more awesome and acceptable than a home version of the arcade “controllers” we all grew up with.

WARNING: HUGE SPECULATION AHEAD!

Anyone else think that we’re going to get Twisted Metal-like endings for Skullgirls? I feel as if Calypso and the Skullheart are basically one in the same. Calypso grants wishes *exactly *how you wish for them, but he can manipulate the meaning of what you say. In fact, I believe Carol and Parasoul will be the only people to have good endings because Painwheel looks to have a very simple mind and Parasoul wants to destroy the Skullheart (thus she will probably refuse a wish).

In the TM series, simplicity and not asking for a wish are the only two things that have outwitted Calypso in the games.

Examples:

Hillbilly: buy dis RV. holds up a picture of an RV in a newspaper
Calypso: You’re joking right…
Hillbilly: buy RV.
Calypso: Fine…

Hillbilly guy gets a new RV.

The wish was so simple that Calypso couldn’t manipulate it. The Hillbilly showed him exactly what he wanted and since he used the word “buy”, Calypso couldn’t make it a stolen RV.

Mortimer (a corpse who wants to return to the dead): I just want to go to sleep Calypso. Let me sleep forever. No dreams, No nightmares. Please
Calypso: Fine Mortimer, Good night.
Mortimer: Thank you Calypso.
Mortimer dies.

Again, the wish was so simple that Calypso couldn’t manipulate it. Basically Mortimer asked for eternal sleep without any dreams or nightmares.

Agent Stone: I’m placing you under arrest Calypso!
Calypso: What? Don’t you want a wish.
Agent Stone: I don’t need magic to make that happen.
SWAT team comes in and arrests Calypso

In this example Agent Stone doesn’t ask for a wish and actually “wins”.

Now I’m mentioning this because it seems that the Skullheart is a naturally corrupt object (like how Calypso is a corrupt person), judging from the fact that hundreds of sought it and nearly everyone became a skullgirl. This is similar to how many people have entered Twisted Metal and only a few end up getting what they want.

Judging by the cast it seems that everyone has a wish that could be corrupted. Which could lead to some dark humor endings.

Phew! That was a whole lot of theory.

P.S: Also Peacock and Kid Sweet Tooth should totally date. COME ON!

Filia is probably my favorite character. The way she looks is just so…appealing to me.
