I need to watch these vids. Funny cause earlier I was feeling salty about mash Bella. But the trick really is just zone and punish/don’t drop combos. If they mash don’t reset except for in air resets. If you are 100% sure they are going to mash shit out filia has one good option, tic dp xx super it’s not 100 safe but it def works against mashers and leads to decent damage. Seriously if people mash and don’t respect pressure that’s when you dp. Otherwise you want safe just zone. Everyone can smartly zone Bella. Lame it up!
I played a MF that would mash super out of any reset attempt I did. I just started blocking at those times and punishing him, which ended up even better for me since he gave me a reset AND it cost him a meter in the process.
Its not the throws that bother me because quite frankly everyone don’t really use them, save for the smart players. It’s just… just. Man, it was a lot of things, but I could feel Mike’s quiet anger when he knew deep down he could take that guy but lost out to random BS, random showstoppers and supers. Not to mention we all know that out of all the solo characters in the game Bella is the best hands down, no can knock that just because of how simple and damaging her combos are. I’m not mad, far from it but I am annoyed that someone can take me or anybody down to 30 or even 50 percent health because of a simple 8 to 11 hit combo. Loth did good no matter how brain dead it was, but still lost out to Megaman DS who I felt was the better player. An to that the dude he has my massive respect even when the odds were against him in terms of putting that damage on the board he stuck it out. Though it doesn’t really matter to me especially since Bella’s damage is getting nerfed come June, which is right around the corner before the new episode of the Walking Dead video game comes out. I’m so glad I shelled out for the Seasons Pass so I can just play as the episodes drop without worrying about downloads. So yea until that happens I’m glad that I main Valentine/Double to deal with her, Hornet Bomber beats out almost just about everything she has, even worst if she is by herself.
I agree with you on that good sir, or even better if you main Valentine and you see Bella block Double’s Hornet Bomber cause she has to crouch to block the last hit. What I usually do is one button dash back, and then forward with Hp which acts as a triangle dash and land a combo that can do roughly fifty to sixty percent into a reset and an option select where she has two options. She either rolls forward into a grab or empty jump in case she tries to mash out 360, and combo her to death or she rolls back, takes Hornet Bomber to the face, triangle dash her and combo to death. So its all about picking your poison. Either way it doesn’t really matter because the moment I see that she can’t react then she’s dead on the operating table without life support.
What I don’t understand is why was Mike going solo Filia the whole time in WNF? Was he forced to only pick 1 character and he can’t change his team? If not, then he really should have switched up his team against Thoth because I think his Filia would have really benefited from an assist like Cerecopter to keep him locked down and easier for mixups. Or he should have solo bella right back and punish his random 360s with grab supers.
I was thinking the exact same thing the whole time I was watching the fight, and his Bella is way better than Thoth’s, I don’t know why he didn’t add her alongside Filia. He could’ve had a better chance at winning in m opinion.
She’s really not. She is easy to zone and her setups are much easier to predict and react to when she has no assist. Bella is just the easiest to use solo character. She’s not even the most damaging because solo Fortune does more damage.
No.
Mike got hit by like 1 or 2 random 360’s and the rest were either punished because Mike was doing IAD or just whiffed and Mike didn’t punish. If you are getting hit by wake up Supers, then why are you get hit by them? In Mike’s case, i don’t think a single qcf+PP was blocked. The times i noticed was that Mike went for a reset and got tagged or tried to pressure on wake up with j.MP and go tagged. Other than that, most of the damage was from Thoth’s combo plus air grab reset.
If Thoth ran through the whole tournament doing one combo, then why should he stop doing that combo? He actually stopped doing it when it stopped working.
For reference, Thoth’s exact combo + reset does 7096. I can get 6300+ meterless with cerebella and that’s guaranteed damage from a c.LK. If you tech the air grab the combo itself does 4246. Thoth’s full combo when he didn’t go for reset after Mike teched it before does 4953. That is not big damage at all. Even Filia can do that much. Cerebella’s Showstopper does 4800, pretty much equal to a small combo that costs a bar.
Maybe you could argue that 6300 is a bit much for meterless damage, but Thoth wasn’t even doing that combo so it’s not like pure damage won him the game.
I like how we’re already at the stage where we can theory fight for other people.
‘Random’ in this game is still viable and takes a few rounds to adjust, especially if its a solo character
Tutorial is better than I thought then
Lol at everyone so salty. Crazy works sometimes guys.
Mike lost because he punished less than half of the whiffed 360s and even then dropped his combos after the 4th hit or something.
I’d imagine Mike was less angry at Thoth for losing to some “random masher” and more at himself for failing badly everywhere.
I don’t really get why people are angry at Thoth for doing a very basic combo into an easily seeable reset,
when Mike just mashed random IAD j.HP, didn’t punish whiffed crap and didn’t convert anything he hit with into damage due to dropping combos.
Mike didn’t deserve to win that at all - it’s not like he completely dominated his opponent and then got caught by two random 360s.
He doesn’t want to because he enjoys Filia and wants to show people that she is viable, even as a solo. I don’t think he participates at WNF to win, it’s more of a promotional thing.
You know what I was thinking? How crazy would it be if you did Ms. Fortune’s head DP, Fiber Uppercut and call out Napalm Pillar as an assist all at the same time? That’s like an unstoppable wall of invincibility.
I’m looking forward to the skullgirls tournament at UFGT8 this weekend. Some good players are going to be there. Should be good Top 8.
If the opponent did their own invincible move at the right time/distance, wouldn’t that be a pretty free happy birthday?
I wouldn’t say all those supers were random. A bunch of them were Arms reacting to people charging in on his wakeup and him swatting them after the air after seeing/hearing him push a button.
At least I hope.
That being said:
Every other aspect of his gameplan was completely hard to watch.
Oh and the commentary. What fucking garbage. The commentary was of the most useless and uniformed variety. If you you want to get people to like a great game with deep strategy, don’t put someone who ahas obviously never touched the game and constantly says things like “WELP LOOKS LIKE RANDOM IS A VIABLE STRATEGY FOR THIS GAME EVERYTHING IS A COMMAND THROW.”
…maybe i am just grumpy haven’t had coffee yet must have coffee nowwwwwwwwww
DP+LK+MP+HP. Congratulations!
No. Cerebella is better because she has mash factor, you can just lockdown a solo ms.fortune for free and they can’t do anything about it. Cerebella can mash 360 and hit you for easy 50%, and for the people saying its easy to avoid it you need to play against a smart person who uses scrub tactics you’ll eat some of those supers guaranteed.
Um, no. As a solo Fortune, I know for a fact this is not true.
Tested it as recently as last night against a good SG player from GA. In locals.
you know one thing i do love with invincible double butt, it really does blow up mashers.
If it works it works.
Spamming random supers and day 1 combos is the same principal as standard spamming fireballs. If you can’t get past the opponent’s tech, the opponent deserves to win.
Having said that, even as a Bella player those matches have made me welcome those forthcoming damage nerfs. Some of that damage output was just silly
