Skullgirls Gameplay Discussion Thanks For Playing

The only thing Filia has better than Valentine is a faster dash and a meterless reversal, Valentine has better ground normals, better air normals, better projectiles, better supers, and can make everything safe by cancelling into shuriken.
.

Shitty assist options though

Filia does make for a great assist character, be it Updo, hairball, or c.mk.

Its why i don’t use her, i like her more as a point character, but like, her assists are weak. Also, her Dhc options are weak in my mind. Filias finrir drive is SO GOOD for DHCs.

You’re confusing the HELL out of me right now. What exactly are you talking about? You don’t use Valentine because you like her as a point but her assists are weak? Or are you talking about Filia? Whose DHC Options are weak? Is that Fenrir thing honest or sarcasm?

Valentine definitely has the superior DHC options, better chip, way safer, and can full combo off of it, be from Death Crawl, Egrets Roll out, Argus Agony etc.

Ok, let me clarify, I don’t use valentine cause she has weak assist options, and i already have a good point character in painwheel. teams have to be built around valentine i feel, she can’t dhc into every super easily for huge damage. I use filia cause updo is an amazing assist and finrir drive lets me do awesome dhc things and forces them to corner.

valentine definitely does have creative dhc options, especially with green poison

as for the whole valentine vs filia thing, I won’t even begin to comment on that
inb4 omni calls the above combo inefficient ;o

Im talking about from not into. Finrir can be used to corner carry.

and vals dhcs are only safe if your far away.

That had to be one of the most awkward looking combos I’ve seen thus far, was neat.

This tier debate could probably be solved by you guys not using the retarded “well-rounded” and “has faults” system. It doesn’t fucking mean shit.

Is Zero a well-rounded character? Probably not. He’s extremely assist-dependent, he’s a pixie, and his normals are slow and awkward. Is he high and above the best? Obviously. Sure you could put him far off to the left and top but I’d say just make a new tier for him because it’s pretty irrelevant.

Besides, tier lists for an 8 character game that basically doesn’t have any tournament results showing fleshed-out top level play is pretty meaningless.

Edit:

Is this confirmed for happening? I know it’s not really “reset” but you know what I mean. Will IPS be shared between two characters? Because that REALLY needs to happen.

Fortune lower sorry, the tier separation is not that huge between the cast  makes more sense if she was in S territory not SS. Valentine shifts in the right slightly more. Guess thats pretty much it without me nitpicking too much. Still a game like this hardly warrants a tier list since the separation is similar to kof 13 ; or at least not sees them as a useful reading material as one would for marvel series. Regardless I can See Filia being the most “well-rounded” extreme due to Mike intentionally making her the “shoto” character in the game (yes I know she plays nothing like the **TRADITIONAL **she is a cute magneto rush down style) I’m referring to her toolset that would handle any situation in theory without being an extreme to get the job done. She has a vertical DP(invis uppercut), a max range half-screen fireball (projectile), and a move to get in from the ground or air (tatsu). She is obvious Ryu parody(more ways then one) from this but its interesting how her play-style contradicts her special-move toolset in a sense but I suppose that can be a good change a pace for changing tactics (Timing the Dp)

meh that mini-rant on gameplay filia came out of nowhere, bu i guess it served its purpose

As someone who plays both Filia and Valentine, though I’m not *too *good, I can say that they perform vastly different roles so you can’t compare them too well. Filia without a doubt beats Valentine assist-wise and anti-air options (Valentine has next to none for both. Filia also has tons more mobility against the cast when compared to Valentine, with the exception being against Peacock and/or Double Butt.

Blockbuster-wise Filia’s blockbusters have some options to make things safe, whereas Valentine has more options to follow up with a blockbuster (off grabs etc.)

I actually posted a fairly long write-up on my blog about what I think of the power level of characters is at this point in time:

I’ve been trying to spread this game around to my friends, and they always ask me about the strengths/weaknesses of each character. I figured that it’s easier to just make a post on the blog and link them to it.

Ok. After playing w omni for like 30 games last night and thinking about the way he executes his setups I’ve realized the true reason double assist is as good as it is. And I’m not sure if mike z is changing this in the patch…but the secretly best tjong about douboe assist hk version is that you cannot hold upback while blocking it. It weirdly guardbreaks your prejump frames. So what omni would do is know I just have yo stand block everything and constantly bring out the overhead pressure. If anything about the assist needs patching, its this aspect of it. Still don’t agree with any patches on it but if he is going to nerf it, this is the one thing Ive learned to hate about it lol

You can’t block during prejump, it isn’t character specific.

I’m surprised that some people actually think Painwheel is on the lower end of the cast. I think she has quite a lot of control over the game right now, especially when teams come into play, there isn’t much that I’ve found to totally shut down Painwheel’s options and once she gets in, her mixup is just absolutely ridiculous. Once she lands a hit she also has some of the highest damage and easiest to pull off (anywhere in a combo pretty much) resets that lead back into the exact same situation.

What weaknesses are people exploiting in her game to make her seem weaker than others in the cast? Her approach is kind of predictable I guess, but I haven’t really had trouble, assisted of course, finding ways in safely on any character. The biggest problems are probably Ms Fortune Fiber Upper and assisted Peacock, but even then their options can be baited out and utilizing your own assists covers you very well.

Whats the difference between that and any lockdown assist? Okay you can’t upback since you’ll get hit but if you upback against Hairball or Cerecopter you’ll just get tagged by a low anyway, essentially the same since you have to correctly block in either situation. That said, if it tags you out of pre-jump, can you reversal between the hits then?

I do agree with Bomber being a better lockdown assist than a keep away one; especially LK one. Full invul is nothing to laugh about.

Im talking about upbacking and getting guard broken between the last and second to last hit on block

That’s because there’s a gap there. It’s not a blockstring, so it lets you enter pre-jump frames, and you can’t block when you’re in pre-jump.
