Back to gameplay, I’ll start.
I’ve already started using MK Hornet Bomber as an assist, and have started changing my Valentine combos to shorter, 5-6 hit strings that end in resets in preparation for the patch. What are you guys doing to prepare for it?
so far ive done nothing to prepare for the patch as im kinda patch proof since i already have used lk bomber as a mainstay for months now, other than that, my characters are getting so many changes that i will just wait till patch comes to readjust my combos, after all pw looks to have some really fun stuff with buer cancels and that isnt something that i can currently practice and im pretty sure that my post patch bnb will have some buer cancels in it.
double is a different story as she has so many changes that i will need to use her to get my head around whether shes worth it at anchor anymore or if i will be better served with a different character like filia.
What do I do to prepare for the patch? Switched to MK bomber and made my game more reset heavy. For real though, my game will change almost 0 come patch time. I always played the game more reset heavy.
Preparing for the patch? Hmm, maybe switch out one member for Painwheel? I just realized how awesome she looks like in green skin. At first, I was annoyed by the flight cancels, but now I think it may be okay for me to mess around. Other than that, I’ll just change when the patch gets here.
If you’re prepping for patch while using a Hornet Bomber assist, go L Bomber. Based on the notes, the other two won’t be nearly as broken as they are now, but L will remain the same (which makes sense, imo).
I highly doubt that Filia will be a better anchor than double (at least if your plan is to use her as an assist only). She’ll definitely be better as a character post-patch, but she’s still going to be extremely unsafe on block without a good assist to back her up. In other words, she’s not a great plan B.
However, if you ran her first or second on a Pw/Fil/ Double trio she would be great (imo anyway). She is great with lk bomber behind her (scary good mixup potential), and if you ran her first she could help open up people for PW (who, if I understand correctly, has trouble with that). I don’t know what your PW assist is, but cruel lily would probably be awesome with Filia too. Just my two cents.
Cruel Lily and some version of Buer Reaper are probably the only assists worth using for PW, imo. Maybe L Stinger in certain cases, otherwise everything else is lacking. At least you can focus on giving her amazing alpha counter potential instead.
My favorite assist for pw is pinion dash, for a variety of reasons:
More range than cruel lily, extremely high priority for a non invincible assist, great in assist blockstrings both as a hitconfirm and as an antipushblock tool, doesnt knock up or down unlike most/all lockdown assists. Personally i think its really slept on and its one of the reasons why i dont fear my double getting snapped in while painwheel is still alive, and with the new pinion assist tech that mike z (hopefully keeps in) i feel it may get even better. But if cruel lily and other assists are what people want to go, im not oing to try and convince them not to, use what feels right to you.
I’m looking forward to Pinion Dash assist post patch, once I see how it cancels (for the alpha counter potential). It’s great now; I can only comment based on point use, but I’ve seen the range and hit-stun on level 1 so I can imagine what the assist is like. I’m just not a fan of the single hit and AA reaper works better for my team. It does look like it would be ridiculous with Double’s dash/slide, though.

There are flight cancels EVERYWHERE! I only have like, one on my made up combo, and this seems mediocre compared to all of that… BUT WHY IS SHE SO FUN?? It’s just, whenever I fly, I can’t help but have my brain go “WHEEEEEEEEE~!”
For some reason I always pictured it would happen with a much better quality vid. ._.
But hey, everything in there is good to know lol
(Of course that did force me to add descriptions to everything. I’m glad I already had some annotations. I was able to add a video demonstrating some resets, and linked it in the video.
You won’t necessarily need good recording equipment, but having ways to EDIT videos, no matter the quality, makes a huge difference.
You can make a tutorial on your character, a combo video, a video of weird things happening (how many episodes of “lianghuB’s(sp) cool moments” have there been? Not all of them are the best quality, but I’ll admit I always watch.
I’ll admit that my dream video is a combo vid for Ms. Fortune to the tune of “Pussy” by Lords of Acid. WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO SEE THAT?
Editing is important as well, but having quality recordings to start with would make your edits better. I’ve learned my lesson after years of editing crap for film courses.
Nothing is changing for really on the patch, I switched to mk bomber a while ago, only thing is damage and less as long combos, but finding a Vinod new resets to compensate.
