Skullgirls franchise only for PC?

Neither are PC tournaments often times. Quakecon for example has been around longer than EVO (by 6 years no less), lasts 4 days, has a “bring your own computer” tournament section as well as preset computers and often runs 2 different games (as well as 2-3 different tournament types per game. Such as Team Deathmatch, 1v1, Capture the Flag, ect.)

Imagine if EVO had 3000 people show up with their own game console, tv, and fightstick and had to organize that as well as their own 200+ or so tournament owned setups and 5000+ other people. (Quakecon 2011 had almost 9000 people.)

It’s not really a huge deal that people make it out to be in the FGC, it just requires stepping outside of the normal comfort zone of FG tournament runners and (more importantly) possibly COSTING more due to the extra space a PC takes vs a console.

The thing is, the other games there are PC games too.

If SG were to become a PC game, you’d either have to cut all ties with the FGC and instead run it as a sidetourney on SC2/Quake/Whatever LANs, or you’d need 2 different tournament setups for 2 games (consoles + PC), that just doesn’t work.

Aside from that, Quake and CS are not exactly our size.

You need different tournament setups for consoles too. They often bring in an arcade board for ST or 3S. Dreamcast for MvC2 is common.Tatsunoko vs Capcom required a Wii setup. Some tournaments run one game on xbox 360 and another game on PS3 if one console has been known to have issues with a particular game (though usually it’s just both on the same current gen console)

As for “not exactly out size” that is true, CS and Quake are much larger in general (though in the last 2 years alone the FGC’s competitive scene has been growing faster than even most FPS competitive scenes and thus is catching up. Plus a lot of the techniques for things like streaming are being developed by either FGC members or RTS communities.) Funny thing is, I’d say that the % of players who play FGs and attend tournaments is MUCH greater than the % who play competitive FPS titles and attend tournaments (Not talkin about joe sixpack playing Call of Duty MW3) but that is probably because the number of players for games like CS and Quake are MUCH higher and there is less of a stigma of “get good or get out” attached to the communities of those games unless you are actively seeking to play competitive players.

If tournaments start hosting Playstation All-Star tournaments then either they will have to drop all their 360s (which is unlikely as outside of EVO the majority of tournaments I’ve seen are run on 360s) or have a separate setup just for PSA with PS3s.

The whole “Separate setups for consoles vs PC” doesn’t really hold water when you take time to actually realize that “Consoles” aren’t JUST 1 console.

So much barking back and forth, but a few things have stood out to me regarding Skullgirls and the PC. I remember when the release for this game was first in sight and the indication was that there would finally be a simultaneous release across all platforms (including PC) and a lot of the PC FGC felt secure that an indie company was acknowledging the significance of PC gaming. Then the release came, and PC was no where in sight. Here we are approaching Christmas and not only has there been no release in sight, but there hasn’t even been the courtesy to address the PC community. I don’t know how PC gamers cannot feel a bit used when this game does finally release for PC, as it’s apparent that in the eyes of literally everyone except PC gamers themselves, they as a marketplace are only there to buoy the otherwise rapidly waning sales and popularity of this IP. The illusion that releasing the game to PC was actually important has completely evaporated in my eyes, and the eyes of everyone that I game with.

Personally, I would have bought this game on PC and 3 extra copies to help introduce friends to the roster if this game had released even within a month of the console debut. With the Christmas season approaching however, I feel more like an afterthought than a sought out member of this game’s community and I won’t be buying any copies of this game. The irony in it is that the rabid indie fans and Steam community on PC could have helped float this title past the jaded dismissal of a large portion of the console community, but I can’t see any self respecting PC gamer still willing to buy this game before it goes on sale for $4.99 at the most. Even Capcom manages to get content to PC faster than this when they’re planning it, and they have an entire division that doesn’t even acknowledge PC as a viable platform. Hell, Capcom is even more vocal about their efforts TO get games to PC when they’re intending to do so. And that is shameful.

You are wrong.

Well that was an intelligent response. Perhaps I can interest you in some late AE patches or SFxT as well.

Netplay in SFxT on PC is broken since launch and some people can’t play AE forever. It’s a bit sad that Skullgirls are still not on PC, but you should at least remember that it’s better late than never.
And even more, I can’t see a reason why this thread still exists. This discussion is pointless, since the game is already out on consoles.

The thread was created for the discussion of whether Reverge should abandon the console version and just focus on PC - not that they should go back in time and erase the console version. I actually think it’s an interesting topic even if I don’t agree with it.

Wrong. Just… wrong. There was never any indication of a PC/Console release at the same time, EVER. NONE. ZERO. Now there was indications that the time between the console release and the PC version would possibly be only a few months, but never ever ever was it even hinted at being simultaneous. I’ve been following SG for quite some time (long before the release date was even estimated for consoles), I’ve had my money set aside for it since the day it was announced it was officially coming to the PC. I still plan on buying it day 1.

I AM unhappy with the turn of events regarding the delays, I don’t think that Reverge should abandon the console market unless they find that the PC ends up being easier to work with while also generating a relatively decent amount of revenue. I am a PC gamer exclusively myself. I have no problem purchasing SG on the PC for 15-20$, I wouldn’t pay MORE than that for it if it didn’t come with new content but I’d certainly pay that much.

Reverge has consistently shown interest in not only the PC, but also listening to the requests of the fanbase. PC wasn’t originally planned, fanbase was loud enough to make it happen. Crossplatform play was demanded, Reverge is making it happen supposedly. Fans said “steam or no DRM, please don’t use GFWL!” game is confirmed to use Steamworks.

Multiple Reverge members have been as open as they can be about the development process and delays. I don’t know why they can’t say what is going on with the PC version until the patch drops, but when you compare the openness of the process RL has shown and compare it to the pulling teeth to get information out of Capcom (an internation, multi-million dollar corporation with thousands of employees) it is like night and day.

No it isn’t. It’s like day and day. Two companies in no rush to even acknowledge the PC platform exists, but most assuredly happy to start marketing DLC in the meantime.

There was never anything like this rofl
And yes I’m 100% sure because I’m a PC gamer and eagerly awaited the release
And quickly learned it would take at least half a year, more likely significantly longer (so I decided to buy a PS3).

Well unless the team has to wait for the Xbox 360 to say something…, It seems we will get information next week with the release of the patch next tuesday.

Also look how Microsoft is wasting the time and money for the developer, The DLC colors that all people want to buy are in “hold on” status until the patch hits Xbox Live, even if the colours and patch are approved and ready for PSN, that means the money they thought get will be delayed.

Everybody knows this sucks

But FGs are a niche genre with a closed-off community and little incentive for new people to start in

Yes, the PC community probably has a lot of untapped potential (if alone because FGs on PC are rather scarce),
but I doubt an 8character “animegirls” fighter to be the hailmary solution that will generate BILLIONS OF DOLLAHS.

We got your point, you’re right in a lot of things, but have a very simplified view and are overly optimistic on how well this game is gonna do on PC

And by now you’re just godforsaken fucking holyhell annoying with your constant bitching and whining
RL is the most communicative dev I’ve ever seen, but you somehow think they’re obliged to send you periodic updates of the current state of the PC versions source code
If I was MikeZ I’d have driven by your home and beaten you silly for being an inconsiderate asshat dumbfuck

Just stop

We’re not happy about the delays, RL sure as fuck isn’t either and the only thing you’re doing is pissing a lot of very nice people off

What the hell are you talking about? I NEVER blame or say the fault its from Mike Z or Reverge Labs, the fault its from the publishers and the first parties like Microsoft and Sony, MikeZ and his team are victims too.

early 2013 is not far away. I can wait. Prefer a delayed yet stable port instead of a rushed game like initially with SFIV and now even more with SFxTekken, which I’ll play again in 6 months.

a PC only release would be feasible, but as mentioned, the problem then would not be with the content but the gameplay.

FG genre thrives mainly on consoles and arcades so there will not be many PC players who can help the game wih beta testing.
Even the major PC doujin fighters were either having a console release later on or were developed as a pastime by people who had a considerable part in console fighters or studied them closely.

For every other genre, a PC only release would be just fine.

the PC has a different demographic. Another reason there arent any wrestling games anymore.

I caaaaaan’t dooo it bruuuuuuuh.

You’ve never blamed anyone in particular, really, but you use the words “They” a lot. The only “They” we know is Mike Z and his team, Reverge Labs, and Autumn. Then you complain that we aren’t being given progress reports on a port that we’ve been told can’t be worked on until the Patch was finished and delivered. But, yeah, I’m fine with whatever yo do now, though. I’m gonna be playing that patch. Why don’t you want a console again? I’ve never seen someone refuse to get a class of system (Never had a friend say “FUCK Personal Computers!”).

Let me guess, you’re talking about Oil R? I ignored him months ago and have never looked back. Just ignore him and move on, lol. Let him waste his life waiting on the PC release of one game and whining when he wakes up in the morning and it’s not there… =/

Its funny how people say “You are wasting your life waiting that” yeah writing a post in a single minute is a waste of time, we can say the same of all of you, at least Im more adult and I dont do things like “ignore him” for this kind of problems, yeah ignore me and all the people who want to buy a game and support a developer.

And well Im glad I made this thread, I see support here and the clever choice is making Skullgirls a PC franchise.

Sorry. I don’t like Capcom fighters. And please never put words in my mouth in the future ever again. Thanks in advance.
