Skull Girls Story Discussion Thread: ALERT! SPOILERS INBOUND!

Wild Mass Guesses:
Vitale is Filia’s father. He planned to hand her over to Lab Zero who they have connections to in order to develop project Painwheel. Filia found out and got Carol to take her place somehow. Carol, being from one of the few families not affiliated with the Medici mafia, had no clue what was going on until it was too late and does not even know Filia played a part in her transformation. Filia lost her memories during the attempt to capture her for Lab Zero or during the symbiotic-fusion and Samson knows everything.

I can see Filia being an ice queen before Samson, due to being a Mafia princess, having nothing but smiling sycophants around her. Carol was probably her naive, slightly annoying, yet honest true friend. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be half-sisters or something along those lines.

Not alot to support my guess, but what do you guys think?

I’m more of the understanding that though there’s a lot of people in Maplecrest with Medici blood, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re affiliated with the Medici Mafia organization. They just happen to be genetically related. But Marie doesn’t fucking care because she’s nuts and wanted to kill Filia anyway, thanks to an old-school “sins of your fathers” kind of attitude.

Basically I assume Filia was essentially just some random school girl along with Carol before Carol was turned into Painwheel and… whatever the fuck happened to Filia. Though the way the Skull Heart talks about Filia’s absolution DOES suggest that something weird happened on Filia’s part with all that. So I think you’re at least right that Filia was involved in all that somehow.

Yeah, I doubt Pre-Samson Filia even knew about her Father/Mothers affliction with the mafia. If your involved in an sinister organization, I really doubt your gonna tell your wife and kids the truth, mainly to protect them from getting involved.

Doesn’t Cerebella’s pre-fight quote with Filia hint that she actually knows Filia?

Several characters did that actually, hinting Filia was active enough in the family to be recognizable by characters who obviously aren’t family friends.

In Painwheel’s story Valentine uses the word affiliated. If it was a blood thing, it’d probably be more accurate to say related. Although I do agree that seeing Marie’s mindset there’s a good chance families that were affiliated but not necessarily allies were targeted as well.

It’s not completely clear all the attributes/skills one gains once becoming a parasite’s host but I’d put money on the fact that Filia could fight and might have done a few misdeeds here and there to get her father’s favor–who in all likelihood may not even care.

I was thinking more along the lines of present-Samson actually. Imagine if a side effect of using a host is stealing their memories. So whereas Filia feels they are lost, the moment her and Samson joined, he took her memories into his own and now knows what she forgot. It’d explain his obvious lie of why Carol knows Filia:
“Samson… who was I? Why does this poor girl know me?”
“I,er…don’t know. It’s clearly insane-I wouldn’t worry about it.”

As for leaving family out of sinister operations, most people/group do not view themselves as villains no matter what deeds they commit. From the Medici’s point of view everyone that stands in the way of their peace and growth are surely evil that must be stopped no matter the cost.

And the Medici’s most likely operate like Italian mafias(Filia = daughter in Italian) who always involve their families for reasons stated above. Usually the father is the head, the children(preferred sons from eldest to youngest) will follow in the footsteps taking charge after death or in sickness. And the wife will be aware, rarely interact and mainly housesit and deal with authority that can’t be bribed like a “good wife” should.

Lastly, again I doubt Filia’s father gives a shit about her. There’s no way she should be able to travel in the new Meridian without being approached by someone looking for her under her father’s orders if he had done so.

Sorry for the long post, I’ve got a habit of breaking up my thoughts.

Something I wonder-- Why is it that only Filia is missing her memories? Is that something Samson does only? Because it seems like the other parasite-hosting characters (Painwheel and Peacock atm) have fully functioning recollection. Granted, those two have synthetic parasites… but Venus has parasites too and she appears to be in working order, and afaik Squigly never suffered any memory loss.

Maybe that’s some random side ability Samson has? Or maybe the cause behind her memory lapse was something else entirely…

If I had to select a final answer: it’s one of his abilities rather than a side affect.

Remember, they had things to stop the parasites from causing “soul contamination” which as far as we know, Filia didn’t have the luxury of and maybe one of the symptoms of the contamination is memory loss.
Edit: That goes for peacock and painwheel, as for Venus and Squigly, I dunno.

The way I understood it, Peacock and Painwheel have synthetic parasites made from Skullgirl blood (obtained by Valentine). And its the skullheart through the skullgirl blood doing the soul contaminating. Samson and Leviathan et al. are just your normal garden variety parasites (or symbiotes?).

Regarding Filia, the vibes I got was that she wasn’t evil before memory loss, but somehow ended up slightly involved with Carol’s capture eg. knowing something was about to go down but not acting on it. And I felt Samson is protecting her, but that he’s also somehow involved in her memory loss (I got the impression Samson may be affiliated with the Mafia somehow).

Oh yeah why did Painwheel have Skullgirl eyes in her ending? Did she make a wish somehow? Did the Skullheart just cheat and make her a Skullgirl anyway? DId the Skullgirl blood just eventually make her into a Skullgirl?

I’ve heard this theory before, but I always thought that the last shot was tears in her eyes like she’s crying blood at the whole “being cast out by her parents and getting a ‘told you so’ speech from Brain Drain”

Really? It seems obviously Skullgirl eyes to me.

Yeah, Painwheel has Skullgirl blood in her in the first place. Both Filia and Valentine’s ending had them wishing on the Skullheart. We didn’t get to see Parasouls Skull eyes through.

hrmm. looking at it now, it looks similar to the skullheart’s mark, but it looks also . . . warped? :wtf:

then again, i figure her SG type blood is causing her to get more skullgirl type powers without needing a wish and that contact with that power seems to give her MORE free will, which is the opposite of how the skullheart works.

given she’s valentine’s back up plan, maybe the SG blood was altered to become make her more resistant to mind control as its used more?

AFAIK the parasites and Skullgirl blood are completely separate. Peacock’s bloodtype is listed on her profile as a normal one, whereas Painwheel’s is listed as SG. Only Painwheel has it.

I took that last shot of her with the eye to mean that she somehow activated the blood within her and became the Skullgirl. Maybe it was responding to her desire for freedom: With her struggle she was pretty much making a wish with the entirety of her being, even though she never actually said “I wish to be free”.

I thought skullheart was saying something like ‘it’s not over’. Probably it means that skullheart will always exist despite you destroying it. So it awakens in PW for some reason or something like this.

I’d assume the latter. Much like how Squigly got killed and then Leviathan attached himself to her and ressurected her…
She probably fell down some stairs into the dark cellar of a hair salon, losing her memory from the fall and stumbling onto Samson in the process as well.
Probably.

I actually have my own theory about that. Samson was captured by the Mafia to be used as a tool to sick on those who did not get their payments in. That’s probably to signify a warning sign if the fate of Squigly’s grandfather is considered. Samson went along with it for a bit because he still got to eat people.

When it comes to Samson joining with Filia … eh it goes something, something, something, attach to her head, eat her memories, and lead her to the skull heart for own personal gain.

Yeah not so sure about the last part myself, but what do you guys think?

I don’t like all the flak that people give Cerebella’s ending.

A lot of people forget Fortune’s goals, to kill the Medicis. (“Your bosses are NEXT!”)

Hell, Ms.Fortune and her group are ultimately in the wrong here.

They went to steal something, got caught, killed for trespassing, and Ms.Fortune isn’t even advocating that she’s justice, she just wants revenge, and that’s understandable.

It’s also understandable to kill for your father.

My father was one of the worst human beings in his later years, and I mean, BAD.

But if someone was to put a gun to his head, you’d bet your ass I’d go after that man.

@LK:We’ll have to wait for Leviathan and Squigly, if Squigly’s memory is gone, maybe it’s just a parasite thing.

Humans have a tendency to feel negative about things we see taken off the pedestal in our minds. We assume traits and beliefs about them that may or may not be true. When we’re able to witness that the image we had in our heads does not match up to reality it is shocking and sometimes even painful. It’s like finding out the girl you had a crush on for years, who you thought was so nice, fun, pure and perfect–is a stepford smiler who’s been doing gangbang scat scenes to support her heroin addiction.

It was probably a similar thing with Forty and Bella since we knew Nadia as the terrible pun making Maiden out to avenge her comrades and Cerebella as the charismatic star of the circus she performs at. It’s a rough blow to see Ms. Fortune acting all deranged over revenge but it’s like a shot in the heart to see Cerebella more or less kill Ms.Fortune. Compare Double and Peacock who could kill a character or two but it’s almost expected.

Filia’s amnesia has been planned out since like 2007. I’m not sure when Squiggly surfaced or i any of the old info is even still relevant, but I doubt she’ll have it. Even though, with a hole through her head it’d be more than justified. I’m almost certain it’s Samson’s doing and he has either her memories or some type of knowledge of her past.

I’d also like to throw out that he does seem to want to protect her, but not in a caring, protector kind of way–more like well, more like a parasite type of thing. Even if you hate a man who gives you food everyday, if it’s your only source of food you’d protect them out of your instinct to survive.
