I love that when Painwheel defeats Valentine in a match, Valentine whispers “Atta girl” before falling.
There is no need for “or”.
A Power Rangers Parody would be the best story mode
That’s godlike.
yeah. battle fantasia’s joke side stories were all pretty fun to play through.
i expect marie’s story to be the canon explanation of what happens for real, just like how justice in AC+ was the full story of GG1.
in other story news, i just found out about all the details on stages you can see if you get both players to painwheel fly at the same time. there’s a lot of stuff on those stages that can be missed, like the stained glass windows in the cathedral.
Basically my thoughts about Bella’s ending:
This may be the “worse” ending, but, ironically people will remember it most because of that.
It is not bad because it badly written. It is bad because while most endings provoke feelings of happiness, sadness, wtf, satisfaction or (god forbid) boredom, this one has sown anger.
We get angry with Cerebella because that is not what we expected from her. That kind of thing we expected from Brain Drain, Double, Marie or even killing ASGs like Peacock and Painwheel: “Bella was supposed to be a good girl fighting for the wrong side, she should have realized that, the Dev Team said she was a pure-hearted girl. She should not have left Nadia dead or worse than dead.”
And she is pure. Not pure good, not pure evil, not pure hatred. But pure love. Love for her family. The kind of love that puts the needs of her loved ones about every one else’s. She will pay any cost for that love.
That is the problem with purity. It is a demanding, unthinking, tyrant. Morals and ethics doesn’t exist or have power in a heart of pure emotion.
In her final picture, she realized that.
For Fortune it is established that are many paths that the story can take. We can assume that in one she tried to bring her loved ones back, found peace in another, and got consumed by hatred in another. Even a person with a very positive look to life can be broken. And sometimes, people tell jokes and smile to hide what is underneath. I was very satisfied to see that she has a great deal of hidden hatred for the Medici. She became more human because of that.
Funny. Love dehumanizes one character and hatred humanizes other in this ending.
That was really deep. The fact that such a conclusion can be made speaks a lot about the story itself.
Good stories do that.
I just think that the development team did a good job in enciting an emotion in that story, and make people talk about it. If anything, art is supposed to do that.
The fact that Bella is a dev fave makes it more impressive that they had the guts to write a plot that makes a lot of people hate her. The devs didn’t sacrifice plot for popularity, which is very impressive.
And the grim tones of this story are in track with the Skullgirls world. A world full of magnificent, quirky and beautiful people where, at the same time, a queen and a maid suffer for desiring peace and justice. Where an innocent girl is kidnapped and transformed into an horror. Where THAT SCENE in Peacock’s story happened (you all know the one).
It is a wonderful ugly world.
It seems purity, in the meaning for the skull heart, is a sense of total and complete devotion. And that “purity” is also what prevents its control. I think that’s why the heart NEEDS the “impure.” Since those who have totally given themselves to their cause cannot get turned to the heart’s own agenda and it can only assume control by using indecision and doubts as a way into the mind of its host.
I think that’s what happened to marie. It seems she simply wished for the power/means to get her revenge and while she was given the form of the skullgirl, she overpowered the heart with her singular will and goal and started her war on crime. Hence why Double was seeking newer hosts for the heart since marie was not falling in line for the their plans.
Just went through Ms.Fortune’s story again and noticed a few things:
Lawrence is a badass. Gets sassed by Nadia and immediately decapitates her. That is a real man right there. He must have one serious body count racked up by now.
On the more obvious end of the spectrum of stuff I totally did not pay enough attention to the first time round:
Little Innsmouth is actually just the Chinatown of New Meridian. I thought it was a completely separate little village.
Minette’s dad is the River King. You can see a bunch of River King signs in New Meridian on some of the larger buildings, so he looks to be a big player in the city.
Minette’s kidnapping might be a power play from Vitale? Or something to do with Lorenzo’s disappearance? Probably the latter on account of him (someone I assume to be him anyway) appearing in the final picture of Ms.Fortune’s ending.
Minette’s got a bunch of sisters. I want pictures of them now. Full body shots - not those heads from Ms.Fortune’s ending!
On the note of those heads though - they all look totally different to each other. I wonder do ferals all get completely random traits when they’re born, or is the River King just a playa’
Regarding Cerebella: I guess I don’t have a ground-breaking opinion on her ending. It’s one of those situations where emotions are running high, and in those situations people do regrettable things. Especially super-powered people who can kill others easily. While there might have been more rational reactions to Nadia being all ALK:HG:LHAL:SJF I’M GONNA FUCKIN KILL EVERYBODY YOU LOVE AAAARGH I’m not sure if it’s realistic of us to call Cere an idiot or a bitch for not figuring it out. I’m not sure how much better the rest of us would have done.
Also, there’s always the reassurance that this path isn’t canon. Though one could argue that since this shows us that Cere is CAPABLE of doing something like that, it reflects badly on her regardless. But at the same time, can we really judge people by things they haven’t actually done? I’m kinda afraid to go all Minority Report on the cast of Skullgirls.
lol, I was thinking this exact same thing. The thing is, I kinda feel like this was something of a “narrative accident.” Like, the reason he decapitates her is simply because they wanted the scene to allow Nadia to surprise some schlubs with her deathlessness. But since this wasn’t already some hardcore combat situation when the deed was done AND a mortal injury was pretty much required for the scene to work, you’re left with the implication that this dude reacts this way *all the time, *as you suggest. Funny how that works out.
there’s one other thing:
the “detective” Irvin looks like one of the portraits in Lorenzo’s office on the medici tower stage. hrmmm . . . :wtf:
also it seems Vitale’s portrait on that stage has him sporting a cool mustache.
I think the River King is the name of the restaurant. Who is her dad? Are you talking about her boss at the restaurant(Yu-wan?)
The River King is definitely a person and Minette is his daughter. (There’s some very slight wiggle room with the way her relationship is worded there, but I’m basically 100% sure she’s his daughter.) Yu Wan is not her father though, unless he likes to talk in the third person a lot:
Irvin backs this up:
Also, another thing I forgot to mention is when Nadia decides to destroy the Skull Heart instead of wishing back the Fishbone Gang she does so because she “Has so many new friends in Little Innsmouth” and changing that would be wrong. This is explained as pictures of Yu Wan and Minette appear behind her.
Does that mean she didn’t know Yu Wan or Minette before she was introduced to the Life Gem?
There is a building in New Meridian called the River king.
You can see it here in the background:
Maybe Yu Wan fished her out of the water after she came back to life and then cooked for her to get her back on the feet and she got consoled by minette
I’m kinda imagining that after the event where the gang got killed and Nadia sliced up, she probably crawled out of the water somewhere in or near Little Innsmouth, and then taken in and taken care of by the residents.
Of course… the fishbone gang were all fish people except for Nadia, right? Which means they might have hung out there earlier, but perhaps weren’t on as good terms with the general populace, and it wasn’t until after that event that Nadia had any reason to get to know some of them more personally.
Yep. You can also see another sign for it outside the window of the Medici Tower stage.
